HBO's True Detective - Part 1

Hindsight etc etc. Honestly we didn't necessarily know what Mathew/Woody were going to do together.

And if you haven't watch In Bruges. Collin can hang right there with the best.

Matt had been making a string of critically acclaimed movies like Killer Joe and The Lincoln Lawyer. Woody was getting award noms.

Farrell made Total Recall.

Kitsch is pretty much where we saw McConaughey before his huge comeback: We only just looked at his recent string of bad choices and discounted the talent that is actually there. Even Farrell too who is in some excellent movies yet is talented. I'm not saying one can't criticize these choices, but just look at past history and see how it' snot unreasonable that these two can do great.

I'm not worried at all. If anything this could be their best performances to date.

I wonder who this female lead is then. It'll be a nice change if this female lead is actually the biggest star in the cast.

And Colin did In Bruges & did Seven Psychopaths, Saving Mr Banks (where he is excellent as well). I mean, seriously, educate yourself if you wanna be taken seriously.

Kitsch is a good actor who has never been in anything good. Other than Friday Night Lights. Farrell is a great actor but most people have only seen his bad films. True Detective will do wonders for them.

And The Normal Heart. Probably what put him on HBO's radar for this.

Hmm some mixed feelings on this. The only thing i've ever really liked Farell in was In Bruges, which mind you he was quite good in and Kitsh I just haven't seen much of him other than John Carter.

Could be great but from a GA point of view I can see how some might see this as a downgrade from last season. There are going to be huge expectations to fill which makes things shaky.

In Bruges was great and so was Colin in it. I'm curious about this. With the right material Colin can do well.

I can't comment on Kitsch since I never watched anything he was in.

Outside of casting rumors, still would rather know more about the California setting/case Nic P. mentioned. I don't expect time jumps like season 1 but wondering if it will be set in a different decade or not.

The Bang Bang Club not good? Lone Survivor not good? The Normal Heart not good?

Kitsch and Farrell is the best news I could have heard, John Carter is under rated.

Colin Farrell has proved himself lately. I was really impressed with his performance in "Saving Mr. Banks". I don't think Kitsch is a bad actor, he's just been in some bad movies, none of which were bad because of him.

Either way, they're still no McConaughey and Harrelson. But keep in mind that there was a time not that long ago where we would all have groaned if we learned that McConaughey had been cast for anything. Back in his rom-com days.

If Farrel brings his Psychopath/Brudges game, I'm game... Kitsch on the other hand is atrocious.

Kitch was excellent in The Normal Heart. He's not the MVP but I'd put him 3rd or so if I have to rank the cast.

Farrell is a great choice

Im one of Kitsch's defenders. I like him in Friday Night Lights and in John Carter and I thought he wasnt bad in Battleship although the movie was terrible. Im glad that with the Normal Heart and Lone Survivor people are starting to see him as the good actor that Ive known him as

I will admit though with all the rumors and my own anticipation and speculation that Kitsch and to a lesser extent Farrell is a bit of a downgrade. I was really hoping for Pitt. If theyre chosen I just hope they give good perfromances.

I know it's an opinion, but you're factually wrong. I don't know what you've seen him in, but those kinds of comments are just ridiculous.

Farrell is a great pick, imo. Not sold on Kitsch, though. Oh well, VERY curious to find out about the female lead.

I kind of think this is a smart direction to go in in terms of expectations. Because all that we've been speculating is, "How can you top McConaughey and Harrelson?" and we've been choosing the likes of Brad Pitt and Christian Bale. But I think if you wanna make this series last (or however long Pizzolatto wants to take it) you can't worry so much about that, because it just creates larger expectations on the show. By choosing Farrell and Kitsch, it just focuses on the "wait and see" and the resting of the writing instead of just "OMGZ this casting is brilliant! It's already gonna be great!" And not solely focusing on the expectation of topping last season. I just like how they're just going for who would be the best actor to play that written role and not just saying, "Okay so in order to make this season better than last, who's an even better actor that McConaughey and Harrelson?"

I'm not trying to say go for less than quality, but it stays expectations and keeps things in check so that mounting hype that's been in effect since the day after the finale doesn't get out of control.

I don't agree with that. John Carter is a good film, but Kitsch is the weakest aspect of it. He's a charisma vacuum.

If JC had a stronger lead it would have been a much stronger film.

When I said he's been in some bad movies, I wasn't including John Carter in that statement. I actually liked John Carter, and I didn't think Kitsch did a bad job in that one.

I liked John Carter too. It's underrated. But i didn't like Kitsch in it. I just think it could have been a whole lot better with a stronger leading man.
