HBO's True Detective - Part 1

I'm just hoping for a good season. Not expecting it to top last season or anything.

Place your beer can men in a circle. Take longs drags of a cigarette if needed. Maybe grab yourselves a pack of lone star. Nothin' snooty.

Soon...

Funny, I think I recognize Vaughn's fancy house from an episode of Ray Donovan. :p

Lol I thought the same

Good first episode, nice introduction to each character. I agree on the intro, don't dig the song but whatever haha.

The intro was okay. I suspect the song may grow on me with repeated hearings. I liked the bar song, though. :)

I liked the classical jazz beat they kept playing in the background. Gives off the west coast vibe perfectly.

I'm out for this season I think. Nothing from that episode made me want to keep watching. And for those who don't like the intro song, don't let that detract you from checking out Leonard Cohen's music. The man is a genius.

Jesus Christ. It's the season premiere ... go punch yourself in the face for that. :lmao:

This post is a huge  I love how you say you've watched one episode and boom you're out. So you're letting this one episode detract you from giving the season a chance. And yet at the end of your post you tell others that don't like the intro song not to let that detract them from checking out the guys music. :funny: Hello Mr. Quick to judge.

It was pretty good to me.

Didnt grab my attention immediately like the first season, but still seemed good to me. Hopefully they balance the character better and improve the pacing down the line

It was in my opinion a horrible episode and I only kept my HBO subscription running after Game of Thrones for True Detective. I'm not jumping to conclusions, I will watch it next year when I resubscribe and judge it then but it was bad enough to where I don't particularly feel like spending $17 a month to continue watching it.

And yes, the irony of giving up on the season after one episode and then telling people not to judge Leonard Cohen on one song was not lost on me. It's a lot cheaper for people to listen to a few more songs on YouTube then it is for me to continue subscribing to HBO. If you want to give me a password to your HBO account though I will be more than happy to see how this season pans out. The only reason I even made a comment about Leonard Cohen is because he had a 20 year span of great albums (and another 20 year span of decent music after that) and I'd hate for people that may enjoy his music to ignore it simply because they didn't enjoy that song.

Are you joking? You must be joking. Your logic is beyond idiotic.

I wasn't feeling it in the same way that I immediately had a feel for the first season, but the ending was promising. IMO, the ending should've been sooner in the episode. Much of it felt like preamble.

But, at the same time, I'm not going to judge the thing as a whole based on just the first episode.

After watching this first episode of season two, I’m thinking the critics are being far too harsh. I personally though this was a great intro episode to this mystery. I appreciate the set up and the end result of this episode, too. I like that it doesn’t start out on the murder scene. I like that we are introduced to this four broken people, all who are very well cast, especially Farrell and McAdams. The fact that it is nothing like season one is a good thing, as well. The way season one was presented was very interesting, yes, and while season two is going to use a straightforward narrative to tell the story, I have a good feeling every episode will just get better and better. Too many people are comparing season one to season two, which is a shame. This is a good start to what I’m thinking will be a great season of True Detective.

I gave a perfectly logical excuse for giving up on the season. The first episode was lousy (acting, writing, direction, all of the above) and I'm not throwing money down the drain in hopes that it improves.
