Sarcasm doesn't come across well over the interne dude.

I don't understand why people think Colin Farrell's threat was Pizzolatto trying too hard to be "cool and edgy." Um, it's a drunk/coked out man menacing a 12 year old (bully or not) and beating his father. It wasn't supposed to be "cool."

And I don't get the no humor complaints. It's no darker than the first season other than there's no Marty to give Rust looks and the philosophical dialogue is even toned down.

Farrell had some really funny lines. "What'd he do to your shoes? S*** in them?" and that "12 years old, my ass. F U."

A buddy of mine and I were laughing about that scene all day today.

The bully scene and the sequence later during the haunting Lera Lynn song "My Least Favorite Life" were my favorite parts of the episode.

people took a lot of Rusts scenes as comical when it was really just him being weird as ****.

Just watched it. Thought it was fantastic. Love the atmosphere and i think the performances were great. I like how the 3 individuals are given a bit of development before they meet at the end. Definitely getting a modern day but more twisted and even Lynchian Chinatown vibe with the political corruption and the railway elements.

We're given a rough idea of who these guys are and what their problems are, that's all we need at this point, an outline. It'll be interesting to see how these damaged, disparate people interact and develop as the case goes on.

Pretty solid first episode, slow burn for sure but I did enjoyed how they all got together at the end.

Also the Ray Velcoro scene on the porch was incredible.

The first episode of Season 2 was interesting though...the editing was awkward.

Yeah that could be it, either way the flow was a bit off.

Solid opening episode. I wish this show was on Netflix, so we could get it all at once. I think it would digest better.

funny that some complain about the first episode...pretty sure they had similar complains with the first episode of season 1...

Thought I would hate it cause I loved Matt and Woody but very interesting first episode the dude that I'm watching it for is Vaughn I knew he would be good in it I expect him to steal the show the rest of the season

Taylor Kitch I just don't like the guy plain and simple I hope his involvement is minimal

McAdams was great as usual

and never was a fan of Farrell but I loved him in this

Finally got around to seeing the first episode, and I liked it. I know this season has a lot to live up to, but I'm a little confused by the seemingly negative or mixed reviews. We haven't seen the rest of the season, obviously, but I liked the premiere, and it was a good "set-up" episode that established a lot of characters and plot points in a short amount of time -- more than last season's premiere had to do.

Have all the media outlets that reviewed TD Season 2 had access to the entire season, or just a portion of it?

Agreed. I feel like the momentum built by watching the episodes closer to one another, or even in succession, would help.

I think they've only seen the first 3 episodes.

I think they've only seen the first 3 episodes.

If I recall correctly it was the same last season and the 4th episode ended up being key for the super long take to close out the episode. From there on the hype around this show blew up and it changed everything. I wouldn't be shocked if they did something like that again on purpose.

I really don't see what was bad about the first episode that caused the lukewarm reception so far.
Maybe that some of the characters feel a bit cliché but that's it

Probably the adjustment from what people loved about last season.

Obviously there's not the woody/matthew dynamic right off the bat or the supernatural vibe present.

The episode seemed very much like an introduction episode so there I expect the future episodes top get the ball rolling more.

With how high the bar was for set by season 1 I think people were expecting this to just be as good as the whole of season 1 in one episode. My brother who is a huge fan of Riggins from FNL is tuning in soley for him in this show and he LOVED this episode from beginning to end and didn't see any of season 1 so that is the review from someone who had no prior experience with this show.

I remember when people started to turn on the show when they realized Cthulhu or other Lovecraftian stuff wouldn't really happen. All that specualation when all Pizzolatto did was like the mythology of the Yellow King.

- I liked the new opening song.

-Farrell is an amazing actor with the right material. He will do a **** action movie here and there to pay the bills, but he is a fantastic actor and I can't believe ppl are surprised by how good he is.

-Rachel is one of thise actresses who has not been the best at choosing projects, so she might not have the cred of a Jessica Chastain, but she can hold her own. Go look up all her roles she passed on. There are a few academy awards winners and box office hits in there. I like her character.

-Vaughn was the weak one in this episode. I hope he gets better, which he has to be, right?

Kitch- If yo ass is going to your gf house and you know she is going to be waiting for you in her panties ready to smash; why wait until you get home to take the blue pill, son? Take it on your way there. Goddamn.

I can't believe some folks were complaining about it being slow and boring. No ****. This was the first episode, which is all set up. I hate season one purist. Eh.

Also: Hnnngh.
