It was a good season premiere. And to the dude from a few pages back who already gave up on the show...

...g**damn, son.

:down

I also have every intention of finishing when GoT starts up again but the premier left me with no urgency to continue watching. Sheesh...

I thought S2Ep1 was better than S1Ep1. After watching S1Ep1 it took months before I bothered getting around to ep2. Even then it took to ep3 t really pick up, IMO.

Didnt he claim those scars werent from the war? I think he said that but I could be making it up.

It's still pretty horrific looking scarring, however it happened. PTSD sounds right.

Any early speculations on who killed Casper?

Aspen. It's totally obvious.:o

-Farrell is an amazing actor with the right material. He will do a **** action movie here and there to pay the bills, but he is a fantastic actor and I can't believe ppl are surprised by how good he is.

Kitch- If yo ass is going to your gf house and you know she is going to be waiting for you in her panties ready to smash; why wait until you get home to take the blue pill, son? Take it on your way there. Goddamn.

Because having a raging ***** while riding a crotchrocket is dangerous :o.

Also: Hnnngh.

Hey, if I don't get to post Kitsch ass here, the rest of you don't get McAdams ass. :o

#Equality

If you photoshop a pair of black panties over his bare arse you might be good :o.

Yeah people need to stop freaking out, its only episode one. It got off to a slow start but picked up towards the end and delivered. Cannot wait until episode 2. I'm thinking things might not really start to pick up until episode 3 or 4 like last season.

I think the first four episodes of the show are probably the strongest first episode out of any show in modern history. I realized recently some of my favorite shows I practically had to slog through the first few episodes (Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men). They were slow but something about the pacing, cinematagraphy and acting was so refreshing. I rewatched the episode last night and I definitely overreacted the night it aired but this season literally feels like another show. My expectations were ridiculously high though.

Decent premiere. So far Kitsch is the least interesting one of the bunch to me, but overall the season's off to a fine start.

i feel like Rust and Marty had a bit more going on...

To be fair we haven't seen these three leads interact at all yet. I think seeing as how they are all damaged in different ways we are going to see fireworks as the series progresses.

Does anyone have a gif of farrell saying "***** you" with the finger point at the kid?

I thought the episode was ok. The flow of the episode felt off to me. Like it was just three/four random stories happening, which of course didn't come together until the end.

This was really doomed from the start for some people, unfortunately. I thought the episode was fine. A lot of it is just set-up at this point, but that's to be expected. Ridiculous to write it off already. I'm not saying it was flawless or anything, but it sure seems like the majority of critics can't even explain why they didn't like it without bringing up season 1.

I quite enjoyed the first episode and am looking forward to more.

I agree that, at this point, Kitsch character looks a bit out of place but I'm sure he wouldn't be there if there wasn't a bigger pay-off.

Also, I'm digging the fact that this is a ragtag bunch of detectives working the case. They went with a Siamese Twin kinda pair in the first one and this gives a fresh dynamic to the season. I don't want the series to hit "Been There, Done That" levels.

I thought it had some David Lynch/Lost Highway/Mulholland Drive vibes going on.

That's interesting. Also, that bar matron with the scars: Did she actually have those or was that also something that Farrell saw in his mind? Because that next shot of her is hard to make out if they really were on her face.

There's so much snark about this episode/season on Twitter and in reviews. It's weird, but not surprising because I've seen some "Maybe season 1 really wasn't that good...? Pizzolatto sucks and it was all Fukunaga!" backlash in the last 6 months.

Good directing is nothing without its good writing in the first place.

I haven't read a lot of the reviews but have the criticisms been mainly comparing it to season one and how it isn't as good?

An interesting tidbit is that there's a book about the way of the samurai on Ani's table. I thought that was a really cool little character tidbit.

I love Ani so far. I don't get the criticisms for her. She's damned interesting. From what I can tell she's someone who was forced to be a mother and a father due to her mother running out on her and her father just not really giving much of a **** to raise them or at least instill any sense of guidance. So along the way she kind of forgot to be a sister. So she's a pretty guarded woman, especially someone who is the only female in her department, yet who is a sheriff. She's just a very nuanced and interesting character.

Paul is really the big mystery to me at this point. He seems more of the straight arrow of the three and I felt what we saw of him in this episode was enough. I just love how I still don't know that much about them. In the first season you pretty much got the sense of Rust and Marty but here they're all so mysterious.

Just caught the premiere. Some random thoughts:

- I hated the theme song and I agree with the one who said that the song in the bar is actually much better suited as the opening theme.
- I like the characters and the actors but I found the 1st ep to be way less engaging as S1.
- Colin's character is the most interest to me so far. That scene with the kid and his father was hilarious.
- I don't think she's been mentioned yet but I find Kelly Reilly's character to be very interesting. I can see her being a Lady Macbeth type of character. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. :funny:

Sadly the only part I can post here without getting infracted. :o

So, how much does everyone assume Frank's wife is pulling more strings than he is aware of at his expense?

EDIT: In regards to Frank and Ray's dynamic. I hope it is something along the lines of Michael Mann's heat. Despite their circumstances surrounding their dynamic there is some sort of mutual ground they both agree on.

Colin Farrell did say there is a deep trust between them despite everything. In the first episode, Ray seems to only have Frank. Despite the bad situation that he's in and despite Frank being who he is, he's the only person Ray can trust and has that is a stable part of his life.

Eh don't know how I'm feeling about this season but I'll give it a few more episodes. I really do not like the theme song for this I thought the theme for last season was better.

I read a review that said that Kelly Reilly steals her scenes with Vaughn, so I'm guessing she has an important role to play in their storyline.

Yeah I get the feeling Vaughn's character's wife is a bit shady and she's knows more than she's letting on.

Love the theme by Leonard Cohen. Loved the episode. I've probably seen it 3 times since last Sunday, and i highly recommend a second viewing. It makes a huge difference.

I can only see each episode getting better from here on. I love how this series puts the characters first, mystery/murder second. The murder is always important and interesting but it really is secondary. The premier was like a reversal. Four main characters, character building, sprinkles of the plot here and there through Frank's character but it was mainly an introduction to the four leads...until the end. The ending was the introduction of the plot. Three detectives come together only in the final scene. I thought that was a great idea.

David Lynch vibes everywhere. Blue Velvet/Twin Peaks/Lost Highway/Mulholland Drive type s**t.

I got Se7en vibes in the first season. More Zodiac for season 2?

Also, i dont care what Nic Pizzolatto is saying, i sense a connection to season 1. There's something creepy about the 8 episode titles that were released today. There's something creepy about Casper's "hobbies" as well as as that institution that Ani went to. Even the score when Ani and her partner walk up the stairs. The egyptian skeleton with the crown or whatever on its head in Caspers home, the surreal art of the naked lady in the bowl, the raven's head/mask in the car (animal masks from season 1?), the brutality of the murder. Dark stuff.
