He'll Cancel the Pizzas: The Alfred Pennyworth Thread

I could possibly see Ralph Fiennes, Richard E. Grant, or Mark Rylance.

What about Ben Kingsley?

Kingsley could do Alfred in his sleep, but probably too old at this point.

I like Rylance, but this role seems kinda beneath him. But who knows.

Eh, I really liked Irons as Alfred. A part of me hoped he would've stuck around. Kinda how ''M'' character in Bond stuck around or Michael Gough always being there.

Just cast the old guy who played Alfred on GoT.

:o

I liked Irons as Alfred. Shame he's not coming back.

I'd honestly kinda prefer if either Fiennes or Brosnan were cast at this point. I feel that'd force Rob to go even more chamaleonic in the role so he doesn't look off having either one of them as butlers.

Rob as he looks normally looks like he could be beaten the crap out of him by either one of them so this would really force him to change his physique and overall demeanor and body language.

I like the first one. He was on Krypton as well.

He would have been perfect 10 years ago. I think's he's one of those guys he's just a little t0o old.

Sean Bean gives me too much of a bad-ass vibe. Like he could beat up anyone else in the movie. Yes I know Alfred is ex-special forces or whatever, but Bean just seems too....action hero.

If Simon Pegg were a little older he'd kill it either as your more traditional English butler archetype or the grizzled ex-military officer take.

Sean Bean I can actually see him as Alfred now

I watched the first season of "Pennyworth" and I saw that there is much more to Alfred. He's not just the butler, or just the father figure, caring and wise advisor, ex-special forces etc. He is all of those things. So they do have to get all those aspects right.

Sean Bean would certainly fit in the action side of things like in the show. But yes there is also the other side of Alfred that is more the civil butler. He is quiet and unassuming but then go into action mode if necessary. He is at a different stage in his life too, but carries that previous life. It is a balancing act and it's much harder than just sticking in any old Brit.

An Alfred around 60+ would be a good age. Settling into older age but still can handle action scenes if necessary. But at a different stage in life. Also an older mentor to Bruce than Jim Gordon.

Early 90s Grant would have been the perfect Joker tbh

I don't mind badass. It's the gruff, working class vibe Sean Bean has that bothers me. Sure, he was a nobleman in both LOTR and GOT, but he felt rebellious to the more stuffy nature of those roles in both parts. I can't picture him as a gentleman's gentleman. He always looks like he's about to headbutt someone.
