He'll Cancel the Pizzas: The Alfred Pennyworth Thread

Firth's Alfred might feel a bit too similar to his role in Kingsman but otherwise he definitely fits the bill.

I could honestly see a bunch of actors as Alfred, but my top choices would probably be: Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton, or Colin Firth or Hugh Grant.

Not really feeling the Sean Bean suggestion. He's better at playing anti-heroes, villains, or badasses otherwise. And he doesn't have a very butler-type look either.

Really digging the idea of Jared Harris as Alfred. Dude’s a ridiculously talented actor.

Harris is my favourite actor for the part personally. Perfect age, he'll be 60 when the Batman comes out, British, absolutely fantastic actor.

you wanna cast lego catwoman, thats fine

but you better bring Lego Alfred along for the ride as well!!!!!

with Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galafianakis as Joker, Conan O'Brien as Riddler....

Absolutely. Firth has stiff upper lip proper British gentleman to a tee, but as shown in Kingsman, he can also be surprisingly bad-ass.

Ben Mendleson of Captain Marvel and Rogue One is still one of my choices. I think there are alot of different actors and ways they could go with it.

Colin Salmon of Krypton, Arrow, and the Bond films would be another actor I wouldn't mind seeing as a former Spy/ Military man as Alfred.

Damn that was one of the better Rickrolls we've had in a while.

Crazy theory I'm 90% sure won't actually come to fruition:

If there's Golden Age/early days Batman influence here, what if there just... is no Alfred?

Seems inconceivable, but that would certainly set it apart.

I don't know about no Alfred but I really want Leslie Thompkins to be in this :oldrazz:.

More and more for me there is only one right choice for Alfred:

He's got the charm, the dry wit, the thinning hair, the gentlemanly moustache, and the James Bond past.

I certainly wouldn't oppose, but considering he's on Doom Patrol (which is still set to get a second season, I think), I doubt this will happen. And with Jared Harris being announced star in that new TV show from Apple, I'm guessing he won't be available for Alfred either.

For now, I get the feeling that someone like Mark Rylance, Richard E. Grant or Ralph Fiennes could land Alfred. Either way, whoever it will be, I hope we get official casting news soon!

I could see Nighy being both a stiff upper lip and a snarky Alfred.

I can see him do that part of the role, but not the comforting father, figure when Bruce is down, like this:

Since they are going for a younger Batman, who still has a good deal to learn, they need an Alfred who can provide support and warmth to Bruce in moments of doubt. I feel like Dalton can pull off that aspect better than Nighy.

Alfred is a tough casting for me. It depends on what they are going for, though for this film, I kind of want a spooky Alfred. I love Bill Nighy's voice! He's amazing. I also love the idea of Charles Dance. That would absolutely blow me away.

Charles Dance and Malcolm McDowell might end up on the cold side, like Jeremy Irons. Even though I wanted Malcolm for this role several years ago.

The options for me are Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie, Timothy Dalton, Sam Neill, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Mark Rylance and Ralph Fiennes.

I'm still hoping for Grant or Rylance. Of course there needs to be right chemistry between RP and any of these actors. Sam Neil is an interesting outside-the-box choice. I always liked the actor. Michael McElhatton is also interesting, imo, but if they age him with make-up a bit.

I really don't want Laurie, Brosnan, Fiennes, Firth, Dance, McDowell.
