Horror "Hellraiser" Remake

"Clive's been very involved," says Bruckner. "Clive came on before the shoot, when we were in prep, and was really just a wonderful resource for me. He was really generous with his time, and very welcoming of the idea that this was a new group of artists, and that they were going to run with this and land in different places with it. He was very supportive of that."

Oh, I like that music a lot. I might check this movie out! Seems like it could capture the spirit of Barker.

So this isn’t a remake but a movie set in the Hellraiser universe. What does that even mean? That said, the photos look atmospheric and terrifying.

I mean, it seems *fairly* clear to me: its not trying to retell a particular story that's already been told, its just taking the setting and mythos, and telling a new story.

Which in prior years would probably just be called a "sequel", but eh.

When you have as many sequels as this franchise that either crapped the bed or were completely ignored, the hesitance to use that label starts to make a good deal of sense.

Reboot and remake are essentially the same thing, but it just depends on the context. Halloween and Candyman are both reboots and sequels (requels), while I wouldn’t consider Let Me In or Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a complete scene for scene retelling of the foreign versions. I guess when I hear set in the Hellraiser universe, it’s making it seem like they’re not ignoring the original films’ existence. It’s not a big deal, just something I thought was interesting.

I don’t see it that way. Recently ppl are calling sequels reboots which is annoying and confusing. The term reboot was meant for something like Batman Begins, which wasn’t a remake, it was literally rebooting the franchise. Ignoring every past Batman film in existence, acting as if it’s film #1 with zero connection to the rest. Halloween 2018 and Candyman 2021 were direct sequels to the originals.

It becomes semantics after a certain point but the breakdown for me has always been;

Remake : Same story, same characters retold/updated as if first time ie. A Star is Born, Pet Sematary, Taking of Pelham 123

Reboot : Completely different story, same or similar characters but new interpretation ie. Batman Begins, The Mummy, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider 2018

Legacy Sequel : Continuation of previous storyline or characters ie. Force Awakens, Creed, Top Gun: Maverick (the aforementioned Halloween 2018 and Candyman 2021).

This Hellraiser seems like a reboot. If it wasn't, that would mean there would exist two Pinheads in the world of the movie.
