Justice League Henry Cavill IS Clark Kent/Superman - - - - - Part 14

a Supes movie should have more colour but I like the way Snyder shoots his films that I don't mind it much

however the interrogation room in MoS and the daily planet in BvS colour grading or whatever it's called is just so boring/ugly on the eyes imo

MOS is one of the ugliest CBM's I have ever seen. More often then not because of the colour grading they used. His suit looked more black than blue and the red 'S' and cape looked more light pinkish and or purple. and everything looked washed out which made Cavill and Adams look super pale. I think i'd have enjoyed the movie more if they kept the filming style the exact same but just used a colour grading more inline with Justice League.

MOS is one of the most beautiful CBMs ever made. Better looking than any MCU or X-Men movie before it bar none.

Meaning of the title (Man of Steel 2: Demi-Gods & Semi-Devils)
‘Demi-Gods & Semi-Devils’ describes the characters of the story.

ZACK ‘the Lost’ who finds hope,
LEX ‘the Greed’ who reaps what he has sowed,
SAM ‘the Hater’ who finds redemption,
BRAINIAC ‘the Obsessed’ who reaches a dark point of no return,
DANNY ‘the Weed’ who sways in the wind,
MERCY ‘the Obedience’ who just follows,
PERRY ‘the Wise’ who doesn't judge,
JIMMY ‘the Righteous’ who defends the suppressed,
LOIS ‘the Brave’ who pursues the truth relentless,
&
CLARK the ‘Noble’ who gives his all.

anyone interested? comments badly needed.

Don't know about that, it was generally a little too gray for my liking. Plus the shaky cam when he is flying was awful. It's sad that 3 movies in and we still haven't gotten a WOW flying moment from Supes.

I love everything about the way MOS looks except for the muted colours. Funnily enough, I found the colours to be striking and vibrant in the Krypton sequences. They only became really muted when they got to Earth.

MOS was desaturated at times, and extremely vibrant at other times. And a movie can be either and still look stunning.

I felt the colour palette in MOS worked, and suited the movie. It wasn't a brightly coloured comic yarn like 1978's Superman, it was meant to be a more gritty and real-world take on how Earth would react to an alien like Superman arriving. Some of the scenes were absolutely stunning, such as Superman walking out of the FOS and surveying the snow covered mountains beyond with his red cape billowing in the wind amongst all the white in the shot.

Nope, its de-saturated colours really come off as annoying at times.

And better looking than any MCU or X-Men film? Not even remotely.

Both GOTG and DOFP looks better visually, have better colours and cinematography.

Not to mention AoU (how imo MoS's colour palette and saturation should have looked like), Strange and Ragnarok - all of which look better visually than MoS.

Agreed. Man of Steel is Fleischer-esq with the muted color, which I love. There are many instances in Man of Steel where the scenery shined and where the suit was absolutely perfect in every sense of the word. Man of Steel remains an underrated film by a wide margin.

How can a movie's color palette be annoying to someone? Seems like a weird way to phrase it.

A color palette like Dr. Strange and Thor Ragnarok is not suitable for most DC movies.

I really want to like the way MOS looks but I just can't. Every time I see the B-roll stuff I think it's so weird that they actually strapped the actors in harnesses or had them on wires doing actual stunts because they literally all look fully CG at all times and it's just a mess of motion blur and shaky cam. Whenever I see B-roll of Cavill being flung around on wires or that gif of him skidding across the ground in the smallville fight, it looks better than the actual scene in the movie to me...

The story felt excessively bleak... I have no problem with bleakness but come on. Amid all the preoccupation about how the world will perceive him, there should be at least a little jubilation and fun. Some clever, funny little scenes of Clark actually enjoying god-like powers. Nope. It's all dreary and scary and upsetting and never fun in any way, ever. But yeah... I like the world building and the set up for BVS at least.

every MOS fan while reading what I just wrote:

edit: Also the Superman hair was weirdly curly, poofy and didn't match Cavill's face or mature hairline at all.

Look what perfect Superman hair he had during the Japanese premiere of MOS:

Just curious, if you didn't like the "excessively bleak story" in MOS, why did you like BVS so much then?

Agreed

Wait this is it THE one opinion. Anyone who has a different opinion is clearly wrong :o

Never said anything like this should be the ONLY opinion. Of course this is my own opinion, or perhaps I should put "in my own opinion" in every comment i make just to make sure people understand that it's my own and not a fact? :o

Maybe don’t respond to someone’s opinion saying “no” then and it will be more clear :o

Because the darkness and bleakness felt appropriate. It was framed as a Batman story for one and it was presented as the dark middle chapter. Heck Superman dies at the end. Bruce is grappling with PTSD, regret, the loss of his parents, the death of robin, all the usual Batman stuff and to top it off, he's on a crusade to kill Superman. He's branding and killing folks. An amputee blows up. It was supposed to be subversive and dark and it acknowledged it's darkness. Just look at the way the metropolis fight is portrayed in MOS compared to BVS. In MOS, we're dismissively shown people and building blowing up and nobody really cares. In BVS, they draw parallels to 9/11. Anyway, bottom line: The characters and the circumstances called for it and it was presented that way.

I absolutely don't mind the angle they chose with his gift being burdened by the fear that he'll capsize the status quo and how the world will react to him. I just didn't want that to be the ONLY thing we were presented with. I wanted more humanizing moments, more joyful moments. I'm not opposed to excessively bleak just on the basis that it's excessively bleak. I'm opposed to it because it makes the whole thing feel weirdly myopic and unrealistic. Like there's no joy to be had in having amazing powers at your disposal. If anything, to have those moments would heighten the tragedy of it all. Moments of joy and wonder would juxtapose with the dark, existential stuff and make it even more poignant and impactful.

Ehh I thought there was an appropriate amount of joy and wonder in Man of Steel, considering the story.

MOS is many things but I wouldn't have described it as excessively bleak. It has its darker moments as all films do, but also some lighter ones. Overall I think it's very well balanced and the film represents the equally balanced pull that Clark feels from his two fathers; one pushing him to hide in the darkness, and the other to fly into the light, so to speak.

Jonathan Kent never pushed his son to hide in the darkness. He encouraged his son to be patient and choose the right time to reveal himself to the world.

But you're not just anyone, Clark, and I have to believe that you were...That you were sent here for a reason. All these changes that you're going through, one day...One day you're going to think of them as a blessing. When that day comes, you have to make a choice. A choice of whether to stand proud in front of the human race or not.

He always believed you were meant for greater things. And that when the day came, your shoulders would be able to bear the weight.

Exactly

One thing that pisses me off the most about the bashers of MoS is how they twist things that are actually somewhere in the middle. Like people saying “Jonathan Kent said Clark should have let a bus full of kids die” when what he actually said was “maybe” not “yes you should have let a bus full of kids die to protect your Secret”.
