another thing i love about Cavill is that he looks regal. Kal-El IS royalty after all. even Snyder deemed Superman the "King of the Superheroes". he should look a king, which Cavill certainly does (especially when he's got a beard going).

Well the work that I'm most familiar with regarding Henry's performances is sadly the Count of Monte Cristo, where I've seen the type of smile needed for someone to portray Superman from him.

If he could emit that same innocent and warm smile that he did for his character there for this character, then that'll definitely be a big plus.

I hope that they're able to straighten out his hair better for the part as well and that he doesn't appear so serious all the time when playing the role.

When will people learn?

IDC about comics. Having an overly tall (6'4 or more) or overly muscular (steroid freakish ala that metal guy from X2) actor portray a hero is BAD for movies, Superman especially. He gets power from the sun, not huge muscles.

Audiences have a hard enough time identifying with him as a character anyway; making him look more normal - by having a more normal height and build- is a good thing. It makes it easier to route for the hero when he physically seems like the underdog.

Has it been confirmed that this will be a origin story? Granted I'm willing to give Henry a chance of course, but I'm not sure if he fits playing a superman who's been around for years; I mean he looks more like a Superman that's just started out being the man of steel.

Probably because we all realize how futile it would be since the decision has been made. Also because even the perfect actor in the world wouldn't save this movie if the script and direction isn't spot on (See Superman III and IV.)

Below is the synopsis that they have posted. It sounds about right but ISN'T official. Warner Bros. have released this synopsis to casting agencies to advertise to actors and actresses for the roles in the film.

Clark Kent is a freelance reporter in his 20's, traveling all around the world covering various news stories. While traveling, Kent is forced to fly back into action to attain an assassin instead of covering an ethnic conflict between the Ghuri and Turaaba clans in West Africa. Upon his return to form, Kent returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and become the hero he was born to be.

I believe enough time has passed to where they could do a legitimate origin story. In retrospect, Superman Returns feels soooo much like an alternate universe/timeline story (with the piano-hurling kid, jealous Kryptonian Baby-Daddy etc.,). So they might as well start over with this guy and do it right. Ergo, update the films of the late 70s/80s for today starting with the destruction of his homeworld.

Bummer, the old thread was so nice! Anyhoo, I wanted to reply to some people from over there:

I think he would do a solid job as Lex, Braniac,The Eradicator, and even as Zod.

Now that they cast such a fabulous man for Superman, I have this feeling if Lex is in the picture, he's going to be a handsome actor, too. t: Which wouldn't be off the mark, Lex has his own charisma and charm and is physically fit, as well. His "magnetism" comes more from the way he carries himself, similar to the Joker. I loved him in Salvation Run comic (also starring the Joker), he was badass there. A real BAMF.

I'm actually hoping for a more natural hair for Superman this time.

Me, too! A lot of artists only draw it that way in certain situations, like when he's wet (see below), which is a shame.

Seriously, I see Superman going with a more natural look, not a lot of hair products. Cavill's Superman 'do can be more polished than Clark's but not overdone with styling, as if he paid a lot of attention to the hairdo, you know? With all the flying he's doing at super speed, and him getting in contact with natural elements, how would that hair ever stay in place anyway? If nothing else, I sure hope his hair MOVES during flying sequences, like Routh's did. That was a nice touch.

It's funny how close to Cavill's hair the above scan looks, actually. Cavill's hair has a wave to it when it gets to a certain length, as we've discussed previously.

We go through this phase with every casting announcement. Hopefully he will find something to embrace with this production now that the casting wars are over. It's time to move on and discuss the future of this franchise now, not what coulda/woulda/shoulda been.

I wonder when Cavill himself will say about landing the role (hopefully someone will interview him and not via press release). But I was genuinely surprised to see the announcement this early -- I expected something in a few more weeks.

Snyder's Superman film is now officially added to my "Most Anticipated Films of 2012". Hopefully it'll stay that way when the secondary and supporting roles get cast.

That synopsis came from Production Weekly. However, PW also posted their synopsis of 'The Dark Knight Rises' and it was completely false. It mentioned Black Mask and Deadshot, with no mention of Bane or Catwoman (or the supposed other mystery villain)

I am more concerned with it being so contemporary...I dont want super literally bailing out banks (for wall street scoundrels) instead of classic bank robbers
