Here We Go Again Part 3: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

Your memory probably serves you well, problem is, you've no idea where you read that, by whom it was written, and if there's any truth to it.

LOL! :D

Unless my memory is wrong, didn't Chris Nolan cast Christian Bale as Batman due to the level of fan support for him?
Bale was already in consideration by the Warner people as he had met with Aronofsky for his Batman movie and with Petersen to possibly play Superman in the SupVsBatman flick.

I received a firmware upgrade, I'm still adjusting to it. :cwink:

Thank you Antonello.

Bale waas a fan fav for bruve. But I am sure nolan picked him for his skills and screen test. I still doubt routh would be back. Sure zack might talk/meet withhim. But he znd nolan are more then likely going to pixk a feesh new cast.

Did the favourable disposition of the fans towards Christian Bale influence Chris Nolan's decision to cast Bale? I'm sure Nolan stated that he wanted to explore the dark side of Bruce Wayne's personality and that he thought Bale was the perfect guy to do it etc.

I can't believe that we're back to this Routh thing. Up till now Snyder stated that Routh wont be back, and now all of the sudden because of so called "fan support" a big director like Snyder all of the sudden had a chance of heart?? Give me a ****ing break.
Routh doesn't possess the slightest bit of talent in way, shape or form. Aside from from the wide chin, there is nothing supermanly about him. A thin weak face, very large nose, bushy eyebrows, the nasally sounding voice and a truly horrible body type for spandex, that's Routh. He's a great guy in real life and that's good for him because it's rare these days, but that doesn't make him a good superman, or Clark for that matter.
People claiming it was the spandex that constricted his size and definition are delusional, and I've seen several people tell that exact thing at the superman section, and they were right, there was nothing wrong with the spandex, just the actors weird physique.
The spandex, aside from the tiny S's was a terrific material for a Superman actor, and it should be used again for the reboot, just darker blue with different texture.
Point being, Routh should just be kept the hell away from this movie.

Welling supporter here but even I have to disagree with a lot of what you said, man...

Well, disagreement isn't illegal so...
It doesn't matter whether or not anyone is a Welling fan, or Cavill fan or whatever. That post was not a Pro Welling post, it has nothing to do with him. Routh is not a talented actor, he's just a very poor performer and he has been in everything I've seen him in. And as for his face, the features I described are what ruins his superman look for me.

Me either....I mean there has been hundreds of posts about how Routh talk goes in Superman Forum and Welling talk goes in Smallville forum....but yet, here we are again.......

People...if you don't want people dissing on Welling over there, do not piss them off by dissing Routh over there.

It's very simple.

You know what? My bad, I apologize. I keep forgetting the new rules. It's just that there were some news posted about routh here and frankly, the mere mention of the dude is enough to ruin my day. I genuinely despise the idea of him being superman ( NOT the man himself, there's a difference) and it sometimes gets the best of me, I'm sorry.

Mike22 nice photos there, out come the whips and mask next? :cwink:. I think the next suit needs a brighter blue and most definitely a brighter red for the cape, boots and nether region. The 'S' symbol needs to be much bigger of course with it being woven into the fabric of the costume. Rather than be stuck on to the chest like some maudlin halloween mask. As for the skin or texture of the blue fabric. I'd like it to have a 'cellular' look to it, as if there's mini solar cells absorbing greater amounts of solar energy from our yellow sun.

I agree with you on the Brandon Routh issue. He was only cast by Bryan Singer due to his likeness to Christopher Reeve as you know. Which in turn makes him a redudant casting choice for Superman and I don't understand why some people would want him to return. He reminds me of the "Superman Returns" film and how it really spoiled a good opportunity to make a great and original superman film. However, instead we had this forlorn lovesick, horribly mawkish, tawdry and incredibly languid effort from Mr. Singer which effectively torpedoed the whole thing. I found it incredibly childish of him. It was an anachronism that was made 20 years too late. Christ sake, you'd expect someone to at least have some originality, ghusto and vision when tackling an iconic character.

The casting was a major issue too. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor? James Marsden was also cast, I like him but his character was pointless and he was cast because of a prior working relationship with Bryan Singer. Kate Bosworth was a disaster and she looked horribly out of place. If one looks closely one can easily spot a ghastly pattern here: nepotism. Spacey and Marsden were offered jobs as a favour and then Spacey put in a good word for Bosworth since they did the very entertaining "Beyond the Sea" together. It's one thing I detest which is to see a director casting the same actors for subsequent projects, it's lazy and I think sometimes the actors and director can become too comfortable with one another. Christopher Nolan did the same with "The Prestige" by casting Christian Bale and Michael Caine and whilst I liked the film, I did find it annoying they were cast.

Going back on-topic. The more I see mention of Tom Welling's name be put forth as the next Superman, the more I want to see it become reality. I think it was bad timing that he was supposedly offered the role of the eponymous hero last time. As he was halfway through the series and looked a little too young for the part it wouldn't have been appropriate to cast him then. Now, he has matured, displayed a great command over the role of Clark Kent/soon to be Superman and he's physically bulked up. It's peculiar how his 10-year tenure will have moulded him to be the perfect Superman. Furthermore, I think we need to see the entire series of "Smallville" (I know season 10 hasn't yet finished) before we can accept him as Superman. The reason being that we're witnessing the genesis of the character. Clark Kent will only be ready once he has mastered his amazing gift of flight and donned the suit. He's quelled the inner turmoil and has found his own equilibrium by professing his love to Lois Lane. We're nearly there and I would relish beyond measure the chance to see Tom Welling play Superman - whether on the big screen or not.

Mike22 nice photos there,
They expose the truth. Certain people use that argument waay to much, and it just doesn't hold water. The material was perfect and not to be blame for how it looked when worn.

From an artists perspective, a darker blue looks better with a deep, rich red, and it accentuates the actors physicality better, so I always kinda favored that, but that's just me.

I'd be cool with that.

All I have to say is, I can't believe Singer made the decisions he made. It's just unfathomable...
After years of discussing this, I still can't wrap my head around some of his decisions for that...movie, if we can call it that.

It's not exactly a secret that I've always favored Welling for Superman.
Would I like to see it happen? No doubt about it, but I am just as optimistic about an unknown, and I would be willing to give anyone a chance as long as they fill the requirements. The physicality is a must. Reeve was asked this question once and he said that Superman was 70% appearance and 30% acting, and I agree with him. If they get some dude that doesn't have the proper look, that superman is shot to hell from the get go.
Wellings biggest advantage is his look. He has an undeniably terrific look that's a mixture of classic and modern that suits Superman in a great way. And his physicality is just amazing, and he's not even that ripped, he's just big boned.Acting wise, he's not oscar worthy that's for sure, but has a certain thing about him that's calming, there's a reassuring quality in his presence that fits superman down to perfection. He's shown he can do the action and heroics very very well, and the mild mannered reporter is also conveyed well by him. This is someone you put in a Times magazine all bloody in a torn suit, with the tagline "He's back with a vengeance" and it would pique peoples interest like never before, because he's very marketable, and has aged very well, in fact, put enough make up him and with the right lighting you could very well shoot his early college years with great conviction. Superman is tough one to cast and and Snyder will come to understand this the hard way through the auditions.
Smallville is far from perfect but I have enjoyed it tremendously over the years and I can't wait for the series finale, even though it will be bitter sweet.

now i dont want it to get into a debate or anything, and personally, i'd be happy with either welling, routh or someone new; but wanted to clarify that snyder never said "absolutely no" to routh. he just said that it was unlikely. i'm sure a lot of people dislike routh, and i must agree that his acting isn't the greatest, but he does have a fan base. i'm actually surprised that snyder would reconsider routh and not say anything about welling. i do think that welling has more of a fan base than routh. i would really like to know who is actually in consideration. they should give like a list of ten people they are looking at, and let the fans vote lol. but the fans can only vote once as to make it fair.

Anyone have a clue as to when we will hear about casting? :D

all i want is tom & erica to have a shot at a screen test, that's all. let them prove their abilities to nolan and synder. this fresh casting that i keep hearing about is a rumor and nothing more. i know darn well nolan and company saw the 200th and the ratings. im sure it has come up in many discussions since friday.

i think tom, brandon or ham will get it and id be happy with either of them tbh. of course if tom got it id be ecstatic!

id say by xmas or the first of the year. i still think a plausible idea is they end smallville and go right into the man of steel. it just makes sense to me. for all we know they have been planning this for awhile now. in recent interview both writers have said time and time again they wish they could go past season 10. i think the wb has had this set up and they cannot go past season 10. no reason we didn't get a lois & clark spinoff otherwise. almost all fans want to see more future clark/superman and lois. especially after fridays show.

I doubt routh well even be looked. At. Zack has said this film is all new and not assoicated to others. Plus that mag is just tabloid trash. I am not worried right now. I am sure in the end we will have a fresh new and good cast on this film.

curious... why do you wan it to be "fresh" so bad?

You know sometimes I look at this as people not wanting to shake things up. Casting Welling and Durance would stir the pot. Routh supporters would scream bloody murder and the enablers will say they shouldn't have chosen Welling if they don't choose Routh. Or they should have chose someone unknown or fresh. Welling and Durance are established. So what if people think its Smallville the Movie. Who cares, audiences can figure things out. Film a good movie and people will think nothing else about it. Welling is the Kal-El for this generation.

+1

the interest for tom is much higher now than it was when superman returns was announced.

Great post.

Like someone else said in this thread. If WB's plan all along was to end Smallville and jump into a movie with Tom and Erica, that'd just be :awesome::awesome: Especially if it said "To Be Continued" at the end or something. I would be one of the happiest fanboys alive.

Yeah, Tom probably has the best look for Superman. He fits with a more "modern" Superman, IMO.

Yeah I really doubt that will happen, but it would be cool. They want to keep it completly seperate from all other franchises I beleive

It probably won't. But fanboys can dream, right? :awesome:
