Somehow.. Clark must save whoever it is that's supposed to die.. or maybe he's just able to delay it.
Looking at the spoilers again, everyone is in the future eps.. Er, except Martha. No way they'd off Martha though.. Gah!

that sounds like she is goin to get blown away by a gun... lol :(

Maybe Clark will save that person's life.... That could be it.

But the way Lionel speaks, it seems as if the life that will be sacrificed, is ALREADY sacrificed by the time clark is back.

It should be Pete Ross. Hes the only one close to Clark that is expendable right now. Sam Jones III left the show and it doesnt look like he'll ever return. The Smallville TV universe is also very different from the comics and the Sam Jone's Pete Ross is nothing like the original version...meaning they could do anything to him. His death in the Smallville TV Timeline would be of little consequence...

Sam Jones III need not appear either as it could simply be referenced that his character died or was killed offscreen (as was done with Swann, Crosby and many others in the Smallville mythos).

Chloe cant die (despite me wanting her to die) as she has a pivitol role in upcoming episodes. Jonathan Kent cant die either as he'll have a major role in the upcoming eps involving a change of career. Obviously they wont kill Lois, Lana or Martha....so it looks like Pete is the only option.

Hmmm Lex is supposedly very ill in the Christmas episode. Maybe it's not an instantaneous thing.

I doubt they'll bring Pete back for that...

go read the season 5 spoilers thread thers ur possible answer

They wouldnt need to bring him back for it.

Anyways, it looks like it wont happen anyways... it may be Martha, which is dumb, since we all know shes going to live.

i don't even know why some people are considering Pete a possibility, he doesn't exist anymore, and he won't be coming back, it's someone that's CLOSE to Clark right now, 1) his parents (1 of them) or 2) Chloe .. maybe Lana too but i doubt that.

actually, thinking about it again, it could be Jor-El himself, this "i love you my son" etc etc talking, could be his goodbye.

*cough*

OMG, wouldn't it be sick if Glover becomes the physical embodiment of Jor-El this season? Oh, MAN!!! If that's what they're doing, I'll be floored!
BINGO!

[In Will Smith voice]
Now THAT's what I'm talkin' 'bout!! LOL

It could be a contractual thing.

I believe John Schneider said that this year he was "signed" for all 22 episodes, but does that really mean he has to be IN those 22 episodes?

It could be that he'll stay in the credits and will get paid for all 22 but that maybe Johnathan won't get out of this season alive.

Who knows?

Odd he used that phrasing, IMO.

He;s signed for 17 actually, but that doesn't mean anything..*sigh* it sucks, I don't want anyone to die. And soon doesn't have to mean in the next episode, they'll probably save it for sweeps or something, or the 100th..though that would be depressing

He was originally signed for 17; now he's signed for 22. So is Annette. (John's actual phrasing, at least in one of his announcements, was that both of them "will now be around for all episodes of season 5.")

Well who knows John could be around in a casket for ep 22. But I like Pat's theory better.

If they actually off anybody and it's somebody that Clark "loves," then I really see there only being two options: Chloe or Jonathan. Not that I really want to see either offed permanently before the show's finale, but all the other characters are too important to Clark's future. Somehow, somewhere, Lois has to get the inspiration to become a reporter in her cousin's footsteps. And there are now two, count 'em, TWO, major motion pictures *about* Superman where Jonathan is dead by the time Clark dons the tights, so....

I guess we'll just have to sit tight and see what goes down.

They could off Shelby. :(

There's one other option: Clark finds a way to save the person's life. Right now that looks like the most likely option to me. I mean, can you imagine if he had the death of a loved one on his conscience? It would crush him.

Along those lines, I have a feeling that Martha's upcoming illness just might be tied to this storyline.

It's too early for Jonothan, even though I think he'll be gone by the time the show has ended.(I fear for that episode:( ) If you look at K-Site, it is now mentioning Martha gaining some Krypto disease. You don't think it could be Martha to bite it do you?

Whoever it is, I think Clark should save them. They can't kill anyone!
Maybe it's the handshake guy that helped Clark in the first season.:)

I'm with you on that one Gina. It is possible Jor-el was challenging Clark, but I think Martha's upcoming illness will be the sacrifice and Clark will find some way to save her.

I got all goose bumpy when Jor-el (even though it was Lionel) hugged Clark. I'm gonna need a big box of tissues for tomorrow night's episode.

Are you checking previous eps for possible dead candidates? That seems a bit unnecessary. It's someone Clark loves.. which means:

Jonathan
Martha
Lana
Chloe
Lois?
Pete?
Shelby (according to Hulk) ;)

(1) I hope Jonathan doesn't die.

(2) I hope Martha doesn't die.

(3) I wished Lana would die. (But she isn't going to die.)

(4) I hope Chloe doesn't die, but I have a feeling it's her(since she not in the SUPERMAN Mythology)

(5) They won't kill off Lois, because she's Kal-EL/SUPERMAN/Clark Kent's Future Wife .

(6) Pete isn't even in smallville. besides he get's married to lana, and first becomes Vice Pres. then The President.

Can you imagine how creeped out Clark must have been, though? Your dead father shows up in the body of your enemy, says he's going to kill someone for you, then hugs you? Yeeek! Like something out of "The Godfather"!

I seriously hope that Clark didnt love him. :)

You never know what happens off camera.:D

(you know it's bad when you gross yourself out.)

You know that's the first scene that Clark and Lionel have had since 4.09 Bound. I wonder if they kept them apart for that reason.

Well, this would be preferable to *anybody* dying, of course, but Clark has only been able to prolong Jor-El's edicts, not avoid them completely. Jor-El said somebody is going to die as a trade off of life forces. I dunno guys. To avoid Clark's death, somebody has got to pay the piper, so unless Clark can supplant the situation with some bizarre body switch - or the writers go to the Kryptonite deux ex machina well  , I kinda think *somebody* is gonna buy the big one at some point.
