Having him die off-screen is storytelling suicide. You gotta show stuff for it to be engaging. Can you imagine how dull and uninvolving it would be if Clark had to relate Pete's death but we never see it?

It won't happen.

The only reason Dr. Swann and Crosby died off-screen was because the actors that played them weren't available (you know, chris had died and Margot freaked out)...

Dr. Whatshername died off-screen in Asylum because seeing her death wouldn't have added to the story and it saved them from having to blow up another car...

Sam Jones III isnt available either. But I'd rather they kill Pete....than try to kill Martha and suddenly cure her last minute. Its not suspenseful at all since we know shell survive.

It's not going to happen. Do you think it should happen? Or do you think it will happen?

The reason they killed Swann and Crosby off-screen was because they had to do something with Dr. Swann and Crosby. They were forced into it.

They don't HAVE to do anything with Pete.

I think it's Martha anyway and Clark will somehow save her, but what will he have to give up to do that?

That's the question.

As much as it pains me to say this (because I like all the main characters) I do NOT want any cop-outs on this edict. Clark needs to learn (the hard way) to embrace who he is.

It won't be Jonathan (I'm sure) because his death will teach him a different lesson; a more important lesson (that no matter how god like he is people still die as part of life).

This lesson is entirely different, but just as important. ACCEPT who you are MF -- enough with the “I just want to be normal crap”.

Kinda have to agree with ya Zing.

I'd rather he not be forced into accepting who he is - weird things happen when people are "forced" into such modes of acceptance. Rather, Clark's lesson should simply be that he is who he is, and trying to change that in order to conform to a "normal" life is NOT in his genes, so why hurt himself and others in the futile effort? (There's plenty of subtext in this idea.)

Exactly.

LMAO@"MF" Hee!

Leave it to Zing to cut to the chase.

I don't want subservience...I want him to feel like he was hit in the gut with a kryptonite sledgehammer. He wants to be 'normal' so bad -- fine, watch what happens when you're so normal!

Think masochist on this one. The more mental pain he experiences, the happier I'll be. In my mind, he must be punished for acting like a kid. We all learned on our own that we had to grow up some time. We all had to make hard choices as we grew up, and more often then not we learned the hard way that those choices had to be made. It just happens since he's Superman, he gets to learn Super-painful lessons.

I said *should*

Obviously it wont happen, and whoever is supposed to die....wont die. :down

That clip with Lionel was great. Very "Meet Joe Black."

Hey, join the TC club!

I think you're already a honorary member. ;) :D

He has to suffer for the journey to worth making, in my mind.

It has to be hard for him to become Superman. If it were easy, the story would be too dull to be enjoyable to watch.

Jonathan & Martha aren't going to die this season.
remember John Schneider said at the 2005 Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL.

That both him & Annette would be in all the episode in Season 5.

Here his quote.
Q: (To John) What have you heard about the rumors of Jonathan dying?
A Well I have heard those rumors, but I can tell you that it won't happen this season. I was notified three days ago that I would appear in all the episodes for season 5 and (holds up his cell) and Annette just emailed me and told me that her agent has notified her of the same for her character.

So it must be Chloe that Jor-EL is talking about. Which would make sense since Clark in "arrival" ask Jor-EL to leave the FOS to save Chloe's life.

Also Chloe's Death would have a Major impact on Lois & Clark.

For Lois , Chloe's Death would push her full on into Journialism.

For Clark, Clark would have another reason to move forward into his Destiny, also to make Chloe proud and that her death wasn't in vain.

I was only joking about the Lara thing Crisis, I dont think that's what gonna happen.

However, it could be Lex, in terms of his soul rather than his physical being.

Ack! I was thinking that too. I know it sounds pretty out there, but being that Lex was split during Onyx maybe he is the one chosen, but his two sides are battling and that's why he doesn't just keel over. Eventually one side wins out......oooo. Someone mentioned they doubted Lex because he wasn't in Clark's good graces at the moment, but just because a friend pisses you off doesn't mean you stop having feelings for them.

Hee hee, I just reread that and realize how nuts it sounds, but hey it's just fun to theorize.

great points.

I hope it's not Chloe, or at least not this season. She is one of my favorite characters, and eye candy for me.:(

Oh well, if it is...there is always Lois.

Especially pose dancer lois!:D

It is isnt it.

This person that dies tho, doesnt necessarily have to die tonight, it could be some time in the future.

I mean it could be Chloe that's gonna go tonight, she is being held by Gabriel but Clark just may be able to change the way things are meant to be.

I really really hope it isn't Chloe...she's been one of my favourite things about the show since season 1.

I don't want it to be Chloe either...

I like the Scooby Gang adventure type stories that they used to do together, and did so well in Mortal.... I would miss that terribly.

We at least know that Chloe is in it too a point. The producers said that her and Lana were going to be dorm mates in college and Chloe is going to have a job at the Daily Planet.

I think Clark is going to save whoever it is. It would show Clark that even with powers, his destiny is not set, and Jor-El doesn't call all the shots that happen in his life. Clark can change and choose his own destiny.

My thinking was that it is Chloe to whom Jor-el is referring, but Clark saves her and thus changes destiny. Which then makes Clark even more powerful than Jor-el evisioned.

Watch it, Assassin!

Gough said it's probably one of the best episodes of the series and Clark gets his powers back in a "spectacular fashion"....
