Since the trailer has been released how do you see the movie now?

Filmmaker
Bomb: "Hulk" — "Why?"

Movie trailer supervisor

Sleeper: "Hulk" — "It would be great for a movie that didn't work to get better, like 'Batman.' "

Marketing executive
Bomb: "Hulk" — "As if there were so many unanswered questions from the first movie?"

Studio executive
Bomb: "Hulk" — "The previous one didn't work. Nobody cares."

Studio executive
Bomb: "Hulk" — "They need to show you why this one is so different from the first one, and they haven't yet."

Their reactions are hilarious. Maybe it is true that you rise to the level of your incompetence? :cwink:

Anyway, I see it as a sleeper. Will it do as well as TDK or IM? Probably not. Even if it's a great film, we need more to differentiate it from the last, we need interviews, TV spots, showing action, and we need them fast. If those happen it could be the unexpected hit.

It will be either a bomb, a sleeper, or a hit. Yep, definitely one of those.

Or something in between.

This movie has a far bigger task than Batman Begins did. People could obviously tell that BB was not a sequel, or in anyway in the mold of the Schumaker films.

People will definitely see this movie as a sequel to Ang's film, no matter how much the studio says it isn't.

However, I will say that I was far more impressed with the Hulk trailer than I was either TDK or the IronMan trailer, and that's not to say I didn't like either of those trailers. If the film follow what the trailer seems to promise, it's going to rock, and we may be talking about this film up with Spider-Man, the Donner Superman and Batman Begins.

I think it is too early to praise this film . I definately do not think it will bomb but it might not do so well because of the scar left by the previous one. There should be more promtion for this movie and a burger king tie -in to lure the kids into it.

I don't think 'Sleeper' is a viable choice because The Incredible Hulk is a fairly big-budget film, a 'Sleeper' usually refers to a smaller-budget, usually independant film that becomes a surprise hit. Studio people will be very disappointed if TIH underperforms...

That said, based on the amount of buzz and publicity that I've seen from my POV (here in Australia), I'd say the movie at ebst may be a Fantastic Four level performer, maybe a little bit more because of Norton's clout...hopefully it will be a good base to launch future Hulk movies from, but I think it will be left well behind by both Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

^^it better damn well perform better than f4. the f4 movies are a joke. this movie just cant be a complete turd like the f4 films

Note: That ShoWest survey was taken by all members PRIOR to the event and prior to the trailers release.

Something that article fails to mention.

i would say sleeper.I think the general audience still isnt to aware of TIH,and many will thin k its just part 2 of movie already didn't enjoy. All in all it looks to be a good movie that has good reviews, good word of mouth to have rewatchabilty.SLEEPER(altough i hope for a hit).

I vote bomb. I believe this is going to get bad reviews from the critics and the movie goers aren't going to show up because they remember the first one. This should be in the boxoffice thread.

I believe the film will be a hit. It may not make as much money as the first film did (simply because audiences were mostly dissapointed with that film), but it will certainly make decent cash and set up a proper franchise. I expect word of mouth will be good, as everyone I know has been excited about the trailer.

A hit that goes under the radar. I.e., a movie whose success isn't accurately reflected in the box office.

My reasoning: When I went to see the trailer before Doomsday, immediately after the trailer, I overheard a guy say to his girlfriend/wife a couple of seats down from me (there were a whopping 5 people in the whole theater for a 10:00 showing on opening night), "Well that looks better than the first one." In all of my giddyness, I said, "Yup and that's all I came to see!" and ducked out to go watch 10,000 BC since I had zero interest in Doomsday.

Over this past Easter weekend, I also got an older brother-in-law to watch the trailer and his reaction was, "Now THAT, I will go see," implicitly indicating that he was less than thrilled with Ang Lee's Hulk. Troy, my brother-in-law, was particularly familiar with and/or excited about Norton.

So, it seems the trailer is having, or will have, the desired effect that studio execs are hoping for. To me, it's just a matter of whether enough people will be impacted the trailers to really get out to the theaters and make the movie a "hit" by fiscal standards. Will they be willing to give it a chance? is the question IMO. Quality-wise, though, I think anyone who sees the movie will love it, and the real measure of success will be seen in the TIH sequel... just like we're seeing with TDK, which figures to be gigantic. Don't forget, Norton has said they've intentionally left out a lot for future installments.

Anyway, I'm excited - it'll be a hit - and sorry, but there's nothing you can do about it.

Welcome back BH. What did you think about the trailer. You can answer in the trailer thread so we don't (LOL) derail this thread.

Its going to be a hit! Are you friggin' kidding me? After the trailer hit, the buzz for this movie exploded. People are going nuts for this at my theater, and we're all dying for a poster or a cardboard standee.

No doubt dude. For about one weekend anyway. I was watching the number of posters on the Hulk forums and they clearly outnumbered that of the Batman forums for about three days... I think we were borrowing some of their posters... lol... but we're now back to the 25 or so that normally frequent this forum, which is perfectly fine with me. It's intimate here. lol

Just think they need to make more of a push with the trailer, as I'm sure they will. Attaching it to Doomsday seems to have made barely a ripple in the pond. They've gotta get the word out.

Thanks for pointing that out AD.

Yeah I read that and I was like WTF? Then I spoke to one of the people who actually participated in it and it was taken before the footage was shown at the ShowWest. LOL I like how they release it well after. Totally misleading.

I'm not too sure how TIH will turn out but I do think from what I have heard from people is that they should have just left him for the Avengers since they already did one and it did not turn out so well. They should put their money into developing new franchises. I mean its' Marvel c'mon they have a ton of comic book movies that would be amazing on the big screen.

Hulk is an amazing character though, one of the most popular about and the could make a great movie, if done right. If anyone deserves a second chance it's hulk, if they nail the nature of the character both banner and hulk onscreen he could have a very successful franchise, up there with spidey.

NO matter what happens, i just hope the movie makes enough so that Marvel make a sequel, at this point, that is all i want.

I'd lean towards bomb... since expectations should be at least 150/300... and I think there is a slight chance it misses both.

I'm going to personally refrain from calling TIH a sleeper, bomb or hit b/c I can't predict the future. I'm hoping it's a hit. As far as studio execs go, I wouldn't believe nor care what anyone of them thought. Most of those guys wouldn't know a real hit if it bit them in the a$$. For the most part, they don't pick the real successful films. They have to be convinced by the producers and directors of the potential possibilities. All they understand is the dollars and cents. They're like vultures feeding off the carcas after it has already been killed. If a film is successful, they stand around, patting themselves on the back and taking credit. They have no credibility whatsoever as far as I'm concerned. Once they get involved with a film, look out b/c all the demands they start to make potentially kills the creative process.
