Hulk 03 didn't get crap reviews though. :o In fact, many people go see tons of movies with crap reviews.

Don't really know how that logic really applies to it's success, critics are a joke lately for most general audience members.

Good point. Hulk '03 got murdered by the fanboys when it came out, not the critics. People wanted to see Hulk actually hit something other than inanimate objects, scrap the emo, etc...

Personally, I loved the '03 film.

The current one does have a chance to redeem itself and let word of mouth carry it throughout the summer even if the numbers aren't astronomical at the b.o.

Critics don't help much for openeing weekend, but they certainly do impact the movies "legs".

Poorly reviewed movies almost always follow a steeper proprotional drop than well reviewed films. The word proportional is key. That's why this movie has to be really good to have a chance. It certainly won't have a Spiderman like opening, so it will need legs to be a success.

I agree... this movie will be lucky to even do Transformers opening weekend money...that's like what? 70 million? They'll be lucky if they bring in 65... its all on the legs... if the critics pan it no one is going to bother dragging themselves to see yet another comic book film... and I doubt the special effects are going to be so special that people are going to be saying, "Go see it for the visuals alone" like they may have said for a movie like Tranformers... the effects in the trailer were decent but not impressive IMO.

Sleeper, definitely. People don't realize how good this movie is actually going to be. It'll get left in the wake of all the other superhero films coming out this summer, but then I think people will come back to it later.

Sleeper.

This is going to be a tough summer. So many high-profile films are being released and I feel that many people will either initially overlook TIH or those that disliked Ang Lee's Hulk won't initially see this new one.

I think it is too early to praise this film . I definately do not think it will bomb but it might not do so well because of the scar left by the previous one. There should be more promtion for this movie and a burger king tie -in to lure the kids into it.
There seems to be no promotion for this one at all...when is this thing coming out? June? July?

Promotions have been non existant. Universal better start moving the ball, dammit. They are promoting the hell out of Hellboy 2 in comparison.

There is more movement with the video game than the movie at this point. I have the sample cover for the game and sega is combining the Hulk and IronMan in its promos at GameStop. It is basically the art from the Hulk promo and same with IronMan.

My guess is they will put some art on the Hulk one before its release.

The promo is heavier for the games at this point regarding the Hulk. Iron Man has art on his game and the Hulk does not at this point.

The art being used in the Hulk promo at Gamestop is the same one we saw after its teaser poster.

I believe it will be a sleeper. At first I thought it would be a bomb, but the more we get, the more I feel this is going to be another ingredient of a great summer.

I gotto flip flop here... like always I guess. But if Letterrier just avoids giving us the recent hapass work we have gotten from him as of late... with this cast and a decent script (I'm assuming)... this could very well be good. I can see people walking out of here saying, "Man, that was pretty decent..." Or when talking about the film later maybe they'll say, "You check out the new Hulk movie? GOOD movie... go see it." Its got potential. Its just that the expectations for these films are so ridiculously high at this point that they can not possibly meet the hype anymore. I mean I don't know much about the market, but superhero movies have gotten so big so fast that they may be beginning to collapse under the weight of their lofty expectations. Its going to be extremely tough here on out to keep producing quality. Let's hope for the best.

How can anyone have high expectations for this film? Please explain.

Because, they might think that Ang'e Hulk movie is a piece of poop and might still be waiting for a Hulk movie that is good enough for them. :o
:yay:

Exactly... people need flawless CGI these days... perfect dialouge/acting/story... and this being the second go around... AND the fact that superhero movies have been dissapointing as of late for the most part. We fan boys are just so picky I get that... but I doubt the general public is going to give this movie or future big budget Marvel films a pass anymore either.

Sleeper.

If its a decent film, it may get some word of mouth and some people will check it out. Ultimatley I dont know if that is enough. Couldnt care less if it gets a sequel but if the studios view as a sleeper hit that made just enough dough, you may see one.

Problem is, in a summer where there are too many Superhero/Comic Book orientated films, I wonder how badly it will get lost in the shuffle.

(Seriously there are way too many and if they are critical dissapointments, underperforming numbers then we may see a cool down period on comic book and liscence films. Which I think is a good thing. 2009 also has projects that are not gaurnteed hits that fall under this category)

Well I do think most of the bad stuff is out of the way... no more FF movies... no more Dare Devil... no more GR and what not... I think if Marvel just stick with their 4-6 guys (since its all one universe anyway) for the next 4-5 years... all we got left is Spiderman and X-Men movies. That's what Marvel has always been about anyway. Just focus on that and its shouldn't get to ugly.

I'm saying this movie is gonna be a hit. I don't see how anyone can put a character as popular a Hulk in the category of 'sleeper'. Even if it sucks, it's still make money and can't possibly be any worst than the 2003 movie. 'Sleeper', is reserved for movies like 'Juno', or "No Country', Hulk already has a fan base, so it's either gonna be a hit or a flop.

I say hit.

The only thing that worries me is M Night's The Happening opens the same weekend. People dig his movies (except The Village).

'Lady in the Water' sucked super balls. He's had several flops in a row,ppl will be skeptical.

It'll make its money on DVD. Im not at all impressed with the trailer, so the high hopes I had for the film are kind of dashed.

Super balls? lol

Every so often, someone throws out a phrase like this that makes me chuckle to myself for the rest of the day.
