Hitman: Absolution

Well yeah but at least those did make sense, the former being a Christmas party while the latter is a themed Hell & Heaven parties, but the purpose of why these female assassins choose to skimpily clad as nuns, is it suppose to be their take on absolution for 47, in keeping the spirit of the title? Like I said I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this but I do hope there's a reason in the game otherwise I'm going to assume it was an attempt to attract those not familiar with the Hitman series.

Well there is ABSOLUTELY going to be some of that. Its been a LONG time since this series was last in the spot light. A lot has changed since thing, meaning, dev costs are up and you need to sell as many units as possible. Im assuming there is something behind that, but IOI has to do something different to get new players on board. Every other trailer had some meaning behind it(from 47 killing diana to his search for this other woman), its why this one is so odd, its seems as tho there is none, but i have a feeling theres something to it.

Then you haven't played the game enough, or its been a long time since you have. Those images are nothing new for the series. Now them working for ICA kinda makes ya scratch your head, but no, those individuals deff were not outside of the style of Hitman. Oversexualized women have ALWAYS been present.

I'm not taking issue with the images themselves, it's the context I have a problem with. These are supposed to be pros and they're dressed in Halloween costumes.

ICA being around makes me scratch my head. The Franchise got everyone but Diana according to Blood Money. Though I can buy some surviving and rebuilding if Absolution is a good enough story.

Also have they announced yet who's going to be playing 47? Apparently they're not going with the actor they used for the previous games.

Not sure what to make of the new trailer. I mean, the presence of sexuality isn't a totally new theme for the Hitman series but this is taking it to a whole other level.

I didn't care so much about the nun outfits, it was more just the atmosphere and cinematography of the trailer. It played out like a Robert Rodriguez action movie or some crap. That one shot where the nuns all line up and pose and then blow up the hotel all standing in a row was beyond cheese and was not Hitman-esque, despite the fact that the series has had sexual themes in the past.

It was like Sucker Punch or something.

Ah, yea thats why i said the whole trailer had me kind of scratching my head. Maybe theres some context to it though?

I've got no problem with that, you can't make the game just for the fans but hasn't it been IO Interactive's strategy for this game's marketing to clearly showing the more action-packed side of the game, couldn't they continue doing so rather than this? I couldn't think of another reason for female assassins in skimpy outfits and high heels with guns being designed other than titillation (and a cheap one at that), it's obviously and shamelessly catering to the teenage boys and males that probably weren't interested in the game until now but since I don't think it'll be like that in the game (at least I hope so) I won't make such a fuss, also would it hurt to put an explanation for the reason of them dressing up as so, is their fetish or what? Certainly they couldn't think it's comfortable to do their contract in those clothes.

The ICA is almost organic. There has really never been a definitive 'head' to the Agency. Its easy to assume there are factions of the ICA that the Franchise wasn't able to off.

And no, we dont know who is playing Mr. 47 at this point, and honestly thats the only thing anyone should be focusing on. At this point the only thing really alarming is the absence of David Bateson.

You've played the other games right? Those outfits are fairly tame for what some women have worn in these past games. IOI tends to think mature, M-Rated, means boobs. Its in damn near everyone of their games.

Also, sometimes you have to suspended belief in games and movies. How many female heroes have you seen running around with highheels? Hell, in Chris Nolans hyper realistic Batman film, Catwoman is running around in heels. Thats ridiculous. Again i hope theres more context to this trailer, but the Hitman games have never been simulations. They can get pretty outlandish and garish in tone.

Yeah but when there's any hyper-sexualised or outlandish characters appear they have a context (usually some kind of party or in case like Mei-Ling, because she's a prostitute) and from what I recall IOI didn't make a trailer focused on them back then, so why would they now make a trailer featuring an expert-female group of assassins scantily dressed up as nuns, thinking that'd be comfortable clothes in when they're trying to take out one guy, and not in a silent way might I add. Now I know it won't be like that in the game but was it hard to even add an good explanation for doing so? And yes I've seen what you mentioned in movies and games, which makes it even more sad that even IOI is doing the same ploy when it comes to their Hitman game.

Can't say I'm alarmed to be honest, the guy has delivered some real clunkers at times (though how much of that is solely down to him is debatable). Not that I'm anti-Bateson (he did fine for the most part), but I'm not really broken up about it (though I think it's a shame that IO didn't inform him or return any of his calls).

I'm just hoping that if they're going to the trouble of changing the actor (and how they present a story if the behind the scenes preview are anything to go by) that the story and acting in Absolution is a lot better on the whole than what has come before it.

I dont think there were any trailers, but Blood Money used half naked women that had no ties to the story to advertise the game. I recall one of a girl in her underwear, shot in the head and the tag line read like beautiful execution or something along those lines.

But I agree with u, man, it was just a really weird trailer and makes us wonder what the marketing team is thinking or if maybe these characters mean more to the plot of the whole game. Guess we find out in November.

You can't be a real Hitman fan and not be upset that Bateson isn't coming back. He WAS 47.

It gets real annoying when people draw arbitrary lines like that. I've been there since Codename 47 (though I've played all the sequels on PS2 from Silent Assassin onwards). I understand the guy was the model and voice and I've even liked some of the work, but looking back I can admit to myself that some of his deliveries are awkward and that the writing isn't great either at times.

What? Do I have to be a clone programmed to obey to fit in?

Lol, no but you need to be aware that Bateson was instrumental in forming the character of 47. He was more than a voice and a model. He gave 47 his complex demeanor. There's something extremely calming about 47 and at the same time you can hear the evil of his work in Batesons voice. I don't know what lines he's ever given that sounded awkward(albeit its been too long since iv played the original game) but EVERY line out of his mouth in Blood Money was poetry.

I was playing Codename 47 recently and had finished Blood Money and Silent Assassin (which seems to feature more story than C47, if somewhat muddled) previously. I'm planning to complete them all (including Sniper Challenge) before I get absolution It's C47 that has more clunkers and bad writing (though arguably there isn't much writing going on), but with the Hong Kong levels feeling like wall to wall 'Fu Manchu' can you really be that surprised? Though saying that, those are some of my favourite levels (I swear even in Blood Money the asians still sound like 'white guy doing racist accent' lol).

I think Bateson does get better as the series goes on, but I'm not so enamoured with his work that I'd call it poetry. I don't think I can honestly judge his overall abilities by Hitman either to be fair. He may have done a lot for the Hitman franchise, but I doubt many outside the most hardcore of fans would judge his range solely on one character in a videogame series.

In short I'm a long time fan, but I can find more than a few flaws in the series. Though I'd never actively call for Bateson to be removed (it never bothered me that much and it's only very recently I've noticed some of those clunkers), I'm just not in a rush to sign the petition to have him back.

And i think that's beyond absurd, especially considering you say you've been there from the start(i think VERY few Hitman fans would back you up). I mean I'm in agreement with you on some of the writing and other dialog being sub par, but thats not on Bateson. Batesons voice has always been perfect for 47. Im not about to write the new actor off completely, but thats going to be a damn tough act to follow.

While we are on the subject of the VA, since they aren't bringing Bateson back, maybe they got this guy, haha:

That's an over reaction. I'm saying I'm hopeful that whoever is chosen is capable of giving a good well rounded performance. I'm not such a die hard fan that I can't give what I believe is an objective opinion on the games. I don't live on the forums and I'm not asking for their approval on my personal opinions. I've skimmed the forums and I know there's a petition to get Bateson back and more power to them, but I don't have to agree or sign up.

Edit: I saw that clip recently. It's a good sound-a-like.

I want the same, but i have a hard time believing they'll find someone that captures 47 as well as the individual who was responsible for giving the character life.

That's understandable. It's hard to see someone step into someone else's shoes, especially if it's not a reboot (which are incredibly common these days). I'd probably throw a fit if Kain got recast in Legacy of Kain (though I'd probably do that even if it were a reboot lol) or Raziel for that matter.

Exactly and its not like I'm not gonna give the new actor a chance, i gave Tim Olyphant a chance and while it wasn't perfect, i didn't hate it. Altho, I'm pretty biased towards Olyphant.

Hitman wasn't bad... for a videogame adaptation. lol

Though oddly enough a bit that annoyed me about Olyphant's performance in Hitman sort of highlights what I think is a flaw in 47's portrayal at times. Olyphant at one point as 47 awkwardly cracks a joke about the weapons he's showing off to the arms dealer (I think that's it. It's been ages since I've seen it). Apart from the fact that it was an awkward delivery and felt out of place in the scene, I couldn't help but feel 47 would never show those kind of emotions or even smile.

Now I can't help but think that 47 should had shown more sides to his personality and not be so in risk of being so one note all the time. I don't know if it's because 47 is always meant to seem impersonal or if it's because he's always reacting to those around him, but I feel like the times where he's fought Agent Smith and held a gun to his head is one of the few times he shown some emotion and not bottled it all up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a rewrite to his character or for him to suddenly become more melodramatic or emotional. Just some more sides to his personality that doesn't contradict what's already been established.
