Hitman: Absolution

I.don't like how guards can see you even though they aren't looking at you. That has screwed me a few times

Yeah I hope they tweak that somehow via a patch. Sometimes I will subdue a guy thinking nobody can see me then I'll get spotted from a mile away.

Any tips on finding environment kills and stuff Pat? So far I just stumble upon them when I'm wandering around lol but it can be tough because the targets usually have their own paths and stuff that they take, so by the time I find an "accident" point it's too late to use it.

In Chinatown there's clearly a sniper rifle and explosives stashed somewhere but I had no clue how to get them or where to even look.

In the second level on Chinatown. There's one building that has a window open if you sneak past the cops there is a sniper up there

You have to go down an alleyway and up some stairs. That level was funny, I pretty much walked straight there, beat the guard up, took his suit, shot the guy from the window, hid, followed the cops down the stairs as they left and walked right to the door without any trouble.

Hahaha yeah I ended up poisoning his sushi and was done the level in, like, 2 minutes. But, part of the fun of Hitman has always been replaying levels in different ways.

I guess I just have to get used to exploring and taking my time again! I realized that it's probably been a while since I've played a game with so many ways to go about things haha. That's...kinda depressing.

What I do on every level is follow my mark. Most( if not all) marks have a designed path that they will take over and over again just like in the previous games. Generally you will stumble upon an "accident site". Or by listening to the guards. Sometimes they'll tip u off as to some things the mark will do( enjoying coffee or having a pizza special made for them, getting their hair cut at a certain time every day etc). For instance in one of the later levels I noticed my mark would go use the bathroom next to a transformer. Well upon further investigation I noticed it could be rigged so the next time he peed there, it would zap him. That came from me just watching his route.

I'm getting towards the end now( about 6 levels away) and this game isn't getting any more forgiving. I think this game might be virtually impossible on Purist due to the guards seeing right through ur disguises so easily. I mean those threat indicator rings on the lower difficulties are a godsend. Altho there is a noise associated with it so I guess ya just gotta pay close attention if u go with purist.

I did it Pat but it was not easy. But on syringe and a lot of restarting from checkpoints and I got there. I also managed to stealth take out Wade to top it all off :P

Wow man. Props. That was the level where I just had to cut the difficulty down from Purist. I just could not get past it. Even on hard I found NO other way to get through it than to just shoot everyone. Which wasnt so bad as I figured why be subtle? These a holes were murdering all these people so I gave em what they wanted.

Man I'm loving this gameplay. It's unforgiving as hell but so fun.

Agreed. This might be the toughest game iv played this generation and for the most part, it's fair in its difficulty.

What level u on man?

I'm just on the hotel right now so not very far at all lol. But I always restart the checkpoint if I screw up royally so it'll take me a while. I'm rediscovering the Hitman strategy of learning the level designs by trial and error. Now that it's familiar again it's even more awesome.

I really hope they tweak the disguises though because they are relentless.

I'm currently on the orphanage. I've kind of been tearing through levels just trying to complete them with the intention of coming back later to replay, explore, mess around, etc. Still tons of fun, of course.

I think it makes sense character wise if the normally surgical 47 gets a little messy in the orphanage, given what's going on. I've taken a real shine to using the fire axe.

Nice. So far that's been my favorite level. Wait til u get to The Streets of Hope. CLASSIC Hitman to a T. Out of curiosity, how would u handle the disguise system. On one hand I like that u can't just equip a disguise and stroll through a level but on the other hand it seems as tho they are almost pointless if the enemies will spot u any way.

Yea I did too. That's why on that level I didn't try and restart, I just gunned cats down.

The Orphanage mission made me tear the **** out of everyone. I think that level was just made for guns blazing :p

I don't mind that the enemies can see through your disguise easier, but sometimes the distance and angles from which they spot you are ridiculous. I was sneaking through the hotel after the fire (in my suit) and a cop spotted me from all the way down a hall even though he wasn't even facing me.

That's what I mean by stuff that needs tweaking. It just makes the sneaking kind of annoying sometimes and feels kinda cheep.

How does the scoring work in this, anyway? It's a bit confusing to me. I thought that by going through a level without anyone seeing you and without killing/pacifying anyone you'd get a higher rating, but it seems like that's not really the case.

If I pacify a guy I get -160, then if I hide the body I get +160 bringing me even steven, but then at the end of the level it still seems to dock me points for it. So, am I really just not supposed to do any of that for the higher ratings? I thought as much, but then I barely seem to get any points at the end for doing so, which makes me think you're supposed to do those kinds of pacify kills to rack up points.

So confused.

Yea I haven't completely figured it out either. I know u get the most points for accidental target kills and the challenges you complete during the level(and there are a lot per level).

I really enjoy the quick time melee. Gives it a real Jason Bourne feel sometimes, particularly when you're on the run and trying to move quickly. Someone gets in the way, tries to stop you, wham bam, they're flat on the floor and you keep striding along. Very cool.

Agreed. That was one of the things I felt most needed to be addressed coming off of Blood Money. Really cool system and looks bad ass to boot.

It's great that he uses a wide range of moves. I'm sure I haven't even seen them all yet, he's not just repeating the same two things over and over. At one stage 47 twisted some poor cop to pieces and hooked his leg around the guys neck...I'm not entirely sure what he did, but it looked intense.

I'm not a big fan of QTE's but I enjoy it with the quick beat the crap out of the enemy moments.

I will say that this turned out better than I expected.

Has anyone done the Welcome To Hope II mission yet? You start off in a bar & have to make your way to the bartender.

I'm sure there is a stealthy way to go into a toilet & jack someones outfit, however I was standing there & heard someone talking about buying equipment to a guard.. I didn't care for his tone so I decided to smash a bottle over his face. A bar fight breaks out & you can basically beat the **** out of everyone in the bar without it effecting your rating. :D

I restarted it to try it again & I found a baseball bat in the toilet & went to work on a few people. :D

I loved both the Kane and Lynch Easter Eggs. I know those games weren't that great but I still loved the world and story for them both. I'm really hoping they have another crack at that series soon, with some fresh ideas.

Haha man I would of given up gaming. This is as Hitman to its core as u can get. It might not be "classic" Hitman(at least in a majority of levels) but the elements that made those games so great are completely intact here. 47 has never been portrayed better, I won't spoil it, but there's a scene where 47 is kind of casually talking to his mark and it's just a perfectly delivered scene. Thank god IO came to their senses and brought Bateson back

Wow, didn't know they brought Bateson back after what happened. Fantastic to hear.

I actually just read that you're supposed to replay levels to get the highest score because the unlockable challenges stack in subsequent play throughs.

So, it isn't like Blood Money where if you were amazing and didn't kill anyone you get the highest score and rank; apparently, it's better to save your Silent Assassin attempts until you unlock some of the score modifiers.

Not sure if I like that, to be honest.
