How does the hood's gang compare to past super vilain groups?

Of course, because it's not like Marvel has any villains with stupid names.

Actually, theres one in DC and one at Marvel.

I just...............knew he was DC somehow. :(

Yeah, Catman stabbed him in the eyes with some syringes once. Which is how Catman became awesome.

Master Man is/was the Nazi's response to Captain America.

I only know of the Captain Marvel one. Fawcett/DC's Captain Marvel, I mean.

I don't even know of that one. That would've been around the same time a Marvel Captain Nazi would've been around, though. Seems unlikely there'd be that big of a blatant rip-off so close in proximity.

Corp had it right, it was Master Man. Which isn't really all that much of an improvement.

Yeah, it's a pretty stupid name. It makes more sense in the context, I guess, since he was supposed to be the ideal man cut from the mold of the master race. Or something.

Master Man was pretty cool the last time I saw him. He gave a Steve a run for his money.

Yeah, Wikipedia's entry on the Hood does mention how he's been portrayed with demonic eyes or even an outright demonic face lately that he never displayed in his mini-series. Maybe the demon killed him, took his hood back, and decided to masquerade as him.

My guess (assuming bendis wants to go slightly with vaughan's origin story) is that the monster thing is what the hood turns you into after long term use. The original thing was probably a guy that was corrupted and this also would explain how the hood went from being an inbetween type of character with good and evil motivations into someone that thinks pulling dr. lights are the cool way to get cred.

The entire team makes no sense as almost everyone there has an intense desire to kill the people they're working with. A large amount of them are mind controllers of some form. It seems like bendis just picked up some random old comics and took all the villians from them to put on the team regardless of the motivations (crossfire remember hates people with superpowers), how their currently depicted (constrictor???) or who they are (the wizard is taking orders now?).

Yeah, that's what I don't understand. The Wizard is far too much of a control freak to take orders from some young demonic punk. If he doesn't get his ass beat at some point in this arc for trying to take over I will be sorely disappointed.

Perhaps he is tried of humbling defeats that come with leading the frightful Four poorly and he has realized that his people skills suck. Perhaps he is the "starcream" of the group, secretly planning on taking control of the group after Hood does all the heavy lifting and networking.

Well how many starscreams do you need? Crossfire is another, vector as well, purple man would probably make a play as well.

I think that's pretty close to the truth. I get the impression Bendis gets pretty full of himself every time he uses some forgotten or obscure character unaware that he typically does it in a fashion that just makes him look like a bigger idiot while Slott over on the other side of tracks does it the right way.

Wizard is the biggest Starscream of the group, as he is a member of the inner circle, has the biggest ego and has one of the highest IQs of the group. Purple Man is more of a wild card than a Starscream.

Count Nefaria would have made a better leader though.

Why, because he can kill everybody in the world with ease?

Pretty well, he is ay more powerful then those guys and could bully them, he is very intelligent and a crime boss, so he would still have adesire to form such a group. Plus they wouldn't have to do a peronsality U-turn with nefaria to make it work.

They would have to resurrect him from his grave of decades-long obscurity, though.
