How has there never been a sequel to Independence Day?

He means great as in ok.

No, i mean great as in great.

great plot
great special effects
great acting

Dont know what the Hell some of you look for in your summer movie fare, but Independence Day delivered for ME on all levels. And judging by the box office, i wasnt alone. :yay:

Independence Day is a wonderful film. Some people think its too American, but thats because its called Independence Day.

Here's your sequel for ya...months have passed since the fall of the space invaders; however, the surviving aliens have managed to pass alien spores to millions of human women who become impregnated by them. Now, the alien threat takes a horrifying new turn as the world prepares for......"LABOR DAY". That's right. "LABOR DAY: THE DAY THE WATER BRAKES!!!!"

-so sayeth the mastermind-

Mars Attacks is superior to Independence Day in every way possible.

That film was awful. And yes, I realise it was meant to parody 50's B-movies, but it was still completely uninteresting.

Independence Day was an amazing movie. It was exactly what a summer movie should be. I don't think a sequel could work though, because of how it ended. If they did a sequel it would have to take place in the future after the humans have rebuilt.

Yah, if you like mindless entertainment created by talentless hacks with huge budgets. Keep in mind that an alien culture traveled millions of light years to conquer Earth only to have there asses handed to them by a laptop with a Pentium II processor.

You are funny.:D

And by funny, I mean wrong.:o

Mars Attacks is a fine, albeit dumb, movie. But Independence Day was about a hundred times more fun, and it didn't insult my intelligence. Which a summer movie should be.

Spielberg's War of the World's is far better than Independence Day. As is the 50's version.

I'm not so sure about that. War of the Worlds is a great movie, with some of the most astonishing scenes in the past decade, but, between the two kids, and Tim Robbin's whacked out performance, it just didn't capture anything that was good about the book. Which we really need.

I liked WOTW but it wasn't as good as it should have been. As for ID4, well...I like Will Smith.

How has there never been a sequel?

Because then the apocalypse would be upon us if there was.

Spielberg's WOTW was awful, and pussed out on the only "tragic" thing to actually happen to the main character at the end to give it a super happy ending. And I'm aware it had the same ending as the book, but when you need to use a voice over to explain a major event, you fail.

Universal never did a sequel to E.T.
Of course there was the low budget clone called Mac & Me.

Ah yes, the typical response of the elitist film critic. Its a summer blockbuster. It is meant to be light entertainment, and it delivered.
Keep in mind that an alien culture traveled millions of light years to conquer Earth only to have there asses handed to them by a laptop with a Pentium II processor.
Keep in mind that an alien culture from millions of light years away would have no idea what a Pentium II processor is and would therefore have no defense against it.

It would have to borrow Poltergeist II's tag line, "They're Back."

I love that Macs aren't compatible with 95 % of Earth operating systems but they can easily hack an alien OS. :woot:

Seems a bit pointless now it's been so long but... Just set it a year later, hence why it would be Independance Day 2 (either that or set it in the days after and just call it Independance Day: Aftermath or something), the worlds nations are in the middle of getting back on their feet and make it where the aliens in the first film were the first wave of attack, levelling all major cities and trying to wipe out our chances of defense and then the sequel would be the 2nd wave that would maybe have alien ground troops and the rounding up of humans etc...
