How I Met Your Mother - Part 5

Can you post the link? I'm just finding these fan edits on vimeo when I search for it and not the official one.

Page not found, so I guess even that has been deleted as well, which is why it wasn't even showing up in searches.

Thanks for posting that. That was so much better than the way it actually ended. I would've been satisfied with that, even though they broke Barney and Robin up quickly and some of the episode wasn't so great with the way they rushed through everything. At least it would've been a satisfying and heart warming ending.

When other directors make a movie and create a great scene they want to keep in it which they've worked hard on, that sometimes ends up on the cutting room floor because it just doesn't fit with where the movie has evolved during the creative process. Here, it's like the creators didn't look at it objectively but just decided at all costs that they wanted to keep their ending they filmed since the end of Season 1, just because they had the foresight to film the kids when they were young enough at the time. But the show had evolved past their original concept.

Anyway, everything that can be said has been said before many times over, so there's not much point in discussing any of this and what might've been any more.

BTW, I'm glad CBS passed on "How I met your dad" after that debacle of an ending for HIMYM.

If Season 7 ended with him meeting his mother at the end and Season 8 was about his life with her and her getting sick and Season 9 was about him picking up the pieces and getting back together with Robin, I'd been okay with that. It was the whole thing within a one hour finale that I didn't like.

true, the whole season was done, so, *** backwards, they dedicated a whole season to 3 days, then cover the next 10 years in one hour... wtf... so random

The problem I have with the ending isn't really even the ending. It's the fact that every season had a Ted getting over Robin storyline that ended with "Everything works out in the end, I met your mother." when they knew they were going to have Ted end up with Robin anyway. If they didn't do that then I would have been fine with the ending.

The mother being dead COULD have worked if they'd bothered to spend anytime building up to, showing glimpses of her and Ted's life together, them dealing with the inevitable, and showing Ted grieve afterwards. Honestly I have no idea what they were thinking with that last season. They spend the entire season showing the last couple of days before a wedding that ultimate proved to be completely pointless (since it broke up only a few years later) and giving us a lot of mediocre filler in the process. Then they just decide to gloss over years of important character developments in the last ten minutes. Also, the massive character regression for Barney was just a flat-out mistake imo and they needed to spend A LOT more time making us by that Ted/Robin would end up together considering that they'd spent the last three seasons or so beating us over the head with the idea that those two simply don't work as a couple, and that she and Barney DO. Shoving all of that into the last few minutes was just sloppy/lazy writing.

I'd just prefer to pretend none of it ever happened and the show kind of stopped around season 4-5 for me.

This show still upsets me because they should have kept Barney and Robin together. Too this day I still can't watch the show anymore because of how upset they made me which is sad because I really loved the show.

From here on out just like I am Legend I will use this ending as the real ending for the show and that way I can watch this series again.

Hmmm, I never thought Barney and Robin should have ended up together in the first place.

Maybe not, but when they've beaten you over the head with it and why they work together for so long, and especially the whole of the 9th season, and they've also beaten you over the head why Ted and Robin DON'T work and how he finally was letting her go, then you don't expect the writers to about turn at the last minute and undo all of that. It was just very poor writing.

If they wanted to have Barney and Robin divorce, they shouldn't have had the whole of the 9th season about the wedding weekend, but instead it should've shown the deterioration in their relationship (with the wedding just one episode either early on in the season or in season 8).

I suspect the show was ruined due to the extended season count. They ran out of ideas which lead to the overall decline.

It really should have tied things up around season 5, IMO.

And yet the last episode stuffed in so many different ideas into the last 45 minutes or so that should've been at least a season's worth of episodes, if not more. Those events show that there were ideas floating around which they could have utilised instead of glossing over them in such a flippant manner. They could have shown Barney and Robin's marriage deterioration, Ted and Tracy's courtship and marriage, and even if they were really determined to go down this route, Tracy's decline in health, Ted's mourning and then Ted and Robin rediscovering each other.

the problem is still that the writters wrotte the balloon scene. you dont have this kind of scene in the last season if they are back together at the end.

and of course this. sooooooooooo wrong.

They made the kids just as creepy as Ted

Yeap, to have all at once felt like Barney and Robin's marriage was a total trainwreck that never should have happened (specially with Barney reverting to his old self) and as if Ted was going after Robin after a long time (she is pretty much absent from the marriage part of the story, wich includes the LONG HIMYM talk to the kids that felt like years because it was actually years).

I don't know about a whole season of it, but maybe 3 or 5 episodes, Robin and Barney falling apart and remaining grown ups, Ted and Tracy facing her illness with Robin a close friend, etc.

Hey guys, watch the series finale drunk. You'll be okay with it...

After all these years I have finally made peace with the ending to this show. I edited the end of Barney and Robin's wedding and add the first 11 minutes of the second to last episode and just added the alternate ending to the show and I have finally made my peace with the ending of that show. Now when ever I watch the show hat's how it ended for me with Ted and the mother meeting and Barney and Robin still married. So I am finally happy with the show and its end. I'll just pretend the other ending never happened.

Why is the boy grinning from ear to ear when his sister mentions their mom has been dead for six years? Do you think the kids killed her?! :wow:
