How I Met Your Mother - Part 5

I don't think Lily is that evil. She has ego problems, she's kinda egomaniac, but she's not a bad person. She actually think she's doing good. She's basically this show's lex luthor. Lily Luthor.

Robin killed a kid. She was volunteering at a children's hospital and well.... let's just say Munchausen syndrome by proxy and leave it at that.
I don't remember that happening but there is probably a lot I don't remember.

It's amazing how one finale could ruin a whole series. Even though I found a way to get past the ending it still pisses me off. As for Lily I do agree with most of you guys. However if Marshal was willing to always put up with it then so be it. That's on him.
Marshall is only with her because she is the only woman he's ever been with and he's scared of life without her. :csad:

Come on, it's obvious Marshall genuinely loves her. and I'm sure she genuinely loves him as well.

Love is not something that you explain or rationalize, it's something that tou feel in your bonez and stuff.

Breaking up your friend and his girlfriend. THat's a bad person. Not Sadaam Hussein bad but it still is a move only a piece of s*** person would do.
IT's also worth noting that Mashall and Ted tried to do that with Robin and Barney too.

I also think breaking up with Marshall was a pretty piece of s*** move. Especially when she didn't have a very good reason. And then there was the episode where she almost went to Spain without telling Marshall

ANd then raking up huge amounts of credit card debt and keeping it a secret from her husband is another crappy thing

I wouldn't say she's evil, but for sure she's a pretty bad person. Not the worse ever but still kind of a piece of s***

You raise some good points! That said, I can understand considering making a friend break up, when you're genuinely afraid the person is not treating your friend well.

I can understand that but still she wasn't necessarily doing it for that reason other than that character Laura Prepon played.
Most of her reason was "They are nt right for each other" and "she doesn't pass the front porch test"

yeah, this is true. There was this episode in season 7 where Kevin was like "all of you have a lot of issues".... he was definitely right.

For me Lily got really bad when "justice pants" were brought into the show. Breaking up with Marshall was also horrible since I don't quite get the logic behind it. Maybe they could have postponed the wedding or find a fellowship closer to New York. I get that she wanted to live this rebellious life as an artist with a possible string of lovers, but it was still pretty horrible to break up with your fiancé cause you have some odd semi-mid-life crisis/unfulfilled dream.

Also sorry Sawyer, but yes the finale has tainted the show for me as well. I've gotten over it, but my enjoyment for the early seasons has significantly diminished due to the outcome of the series.

Lilly also had the audacity to tell Marshall he had changed, when he was probably the only one who remained the same through out the entire series run

Oh no, definitely don't want to see Alyson Hannigan bald.:cwink:

How your aunt Lily became really evil: starring bald Lily.

Rewatching the S***ty Pumpkin episodes and I'm just laughing so much about how there's no way in hell this show would've gotten away with the character of Barney today

The show ended in 2014. It's now 2016. I am still not able to re-watch it. This might really be the first time ever that an ending ruined an entire series for me.

I think I caught part of an episode the other day, but I use to always stop when it's playing. The last episode really ruined it for me.

While the last episode really damaged the rest of the show for me, I think I could stomach watching it again if I just watch the alternate ending instead of the one that aired.

Yeah, the alternate ending is the only one I accept. I rewatched a few episodes a few months ago, and the humor still holds up, but that ending really did more damage than anything else to the show's legacy.

I liked the ending. I liked the Mother, I liked Robin. Ted loved them both. I see nothing wrong with that. And for me, the ending validated the early seasons. Watching the show I was like "can we just skip to the Mother already? Now I see that the years with Robin were important too.

That's the only way I've been able to watch this series is by adding in the alternate ending which allows the mother to still be alive and also allows Barney and Robin to still be married. If not for that ending I would never be able to watch the show ever again.

You see, for me, the years with Robin were important because it was her wedding that he met the mother at, so it came full circle there.

But having him end up with her in the end totally ruins the cheesy balloon episode where he "finally lets her go". Not to mention, she was married to ONE of his best friends, that he was the Best Man at.

I have no issue with a story that someone has 2 great loves. But, I agree with the whole "letting" her go. If this wasn't called, How I met your mother and somewhere around season 4 he finally got together and season 6 he lost her and then in the last season he meets back up with Robin, that'd be a different story.

But the ending felt like Tracy was marginalized for Robin.

Bingo, what bothered me the most was how, in the original ending, they sort of just gloss over the fact the mother had died, and a couple of minutes later, we see Ted being convinced to go after Robin by his kids. I know they filmed that scene with the kids years ago, but tonally, it just didn't fit, especially since hearing that the mother died was a big shock for most viewers, and we didn't even have much time to process that.

It's those last 5-7 minutes that really ruined what was otherwise a solid finale.

I think that just because he ended up with Robin again, it doesn't mean that he wasn't honest to himself letting her go. Obviously he loved her the whole time, but the situation couldn't be helped. Then the situation changed multiple times, including finding another woman he loved. But I can understand where you're coming from.

I agree that Tracy was great and I wish that we had gotten to see more of her. But in a way, that makes us relate to Ted's sadness even more.

I feel like, from a writing standpoint, the mother was a plot device used to keep Ted/Robin separated for long enough for them to get what they wanted on their own. Ted got his house and raised his kids in the suburbs, while Robin got to travel across the world as a successful reporter. These were initially the biggest reasons why they broke up in the first place,so it felt a bit too convenient that they both achieved these dreams by the time the series ended with them getting back together.
