Ahhhh you were talking about the classic costume, my bad. I'm pretty sure this version of Goblin has a glider. He's a mix between 616 and Ultimate (glider and mutation)

Marvel managed to make Captain America and Thor work. Even Red Skull and Loki were accurate to a degree, I don't see why Sony can't do the same for Green Goblin. We're not asking for a direct replica of what was in the comics, we're asking for something that pays homage to the source material

But they can be. Look at Caps USO costume. Cheesy as hell. it all depends on the execution. As he/she said, no one's looking for a direct, literal adaptation from the page, but one that pays close homage to the source material (Cap/Thor).

It doesn't even have to be a goblin costume in this case. A purple armor and a hat of some sort could work. In this movie's settings, Green Goblin is likely to be a product of mutation. Why couldn't he be mutated into a monster who has pointy ears and always smiles (which judging by the poster so far, looks to be true). It's all just making a purple armor/robe at this point.

Look at Loki, the guy wears two giant horns. That looks pretty goofy to me imo

Really depends on the shade and the way it's used. Maybe he shouldn't be dressed like in the comics, but there's no reason why the color itself wouldn't work. Goblin's Glider was even purple in Raimi's Movie, so why couldn't he have it somewhere on his suit? Like completely green armor doesn't already look weird enough.

This shade of purple would work just fine.

Not a purple vest, but purple armor. Which he has worn in the comics as well. It doesn't have to be light purple. It could be dark purple. It could also have a just few purple parts. He also doesn't have to carry his pumpkins in a purse. There are other ways to make it work.

That is true, but it's also in Sony's best interest to keep their fan's happy to a degree. I personally think that a tech suit (as you said) would work fine, if it's got tints of dark purple. hell, even a helmet shaped like the goblin's hat would probably make fans happy

No, they're the same as guys who wear goofy US flag and space viking costumes. But if you can pull those off, and Spider-Man, and Batman, and even Superman for the last 35 years, you shouldn't bat an eye at the Goblin. But they seem to be afraid of him for some reason. Too bad.

Although I will note that I think all the griping about how Harry looks is premature since it doesn't necessarily indicate what will happen to Norman.

Well yeah, you're right it's probably not gonna make a huge difference. But from what I learned in my marketing course (which is actually not much ), a company should always try their best to satisfy their consumers. In this case, adding some purple to the costume probably won't hurt very much.

Of course, fanboys make a small percentage of the general audience (like what, 10%?). It's pretty obvious that the target audience is not JUST fan boys, but also people who are watching super hero movies now. but that 10% could mean 4.4 million dollars of gross profit to the company (according to wiki, it grossed 40.4mil in August 2012). I really don't think adding some purple would be that hard. Some fans would boycott the movie because of the lack of homage to the comics.

Some people boycotted the first one because the costume was different. I personally, would never do it. But there are people like that out there and it won't hurt for Sony to just appeal to them every now and then, especially when it comes to an important character like the Green Goblin

EDIT: but yeah, you're completely right. My main concern was the face, until I saw the poster. I have no complaints there.

of course not! But it sure wouldn't hurt the movie either! Did the TASM suit make a big difference to the movie or affect it negatively? Nope. Does the TASM2 suit make a big difference? Of course not, but it shows versimilitude to the source material. Even though they're superficial details, they can still be nice to have sometimes.

I absolutely 100% agree that a classic GG costume would work in a movie. I actually don't mind Harry's look in that poster, so far. It's still a blurry shot of him and with added detail and motion, things often will have a diff look. My thoughts on his appearance may improve with time.

That being said they could very easily design something like the classic Goblin costume for Norman, should he eventually become the real GG. Or even in a case where he never does and Harry remains as the only GG it's entirely possible they could change his attire for the next movie or movies, assuming he survives. We may get a classic suit yet. They changed the Spidey suit from the first film based on fan input/reaction. It could happen again.
