The Dark Knight How to make this film fun without onliners

"It is not who I am underneath" seem to me to be an attempt by Goyer to create a new "with great power comes great responsibility".
How is that aping what was said in Spider-man?

That scene is one of the best scenes in BEGINS. The line itself was great, as was the delivery from Bale. It got me pumped, and then he nose dives selflessly into the thick fog, and darkness to go face the forces threatning the city. THAT WAS BATMAN. If you didn't like that scene, or that line and delivery, you don't like Batman. That scene was money. Character turning point. It ceases to be finite mission, and becomes his life. That's where Batman Begins, in the last act of the movie.

one liners in begins mauled. " i brought mine". " im not gonna kill ya but odnt have 2 save ya"

alfred were good too, and foxs OWNED ALL1

One liners were't that bad in BEGINS. And that wasn't Nolan, that was Goyer. Get it straight.

I'm just saying it's a bit black & white to state that whoever doesn't like the line, doesn't like the character.

I didn't really like the scene either, but I sure as hell consider myself a huge batman fan.

I dunno, I like BB and all ( it's one my favorite movies), but to me that line is basically saying that I can hate white people or something, but as long as I don't show it, it's cool. It's really who you are underneath, because what's inside will eventually come out.

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life"

You didn't like that scene? Then yes, that is completely black and white... haha

You don't like Batman.

You didn't even understand it. He's saying whoever under THAT mask (as in the face) makes no difference. She wanted to know his identity, and that isn't what is important. He is defined by his actions, not his face under the mask. What you're talking about his character and morals ... or his "heart". His character is explained by his heroic actions, by trying to be a single man who is willing to stand up to corruption and evil. That scene was on point.

I'm talking about the line itself, not the scene.

There's plenty of room for humor - most appropriately in scenes dealing with Bruce's playboy facade, and of course, the master of dry wit - Alfred.

I think that the only humor in this movie should come from playboy bruce wayne, alfred, and maybe some very dark humor from the joker, but I'm really against the idea of the joker being portrayed as a funny guy.

I think humor works best when it's not forced in this type of film.

Why do my threads always get hijacked.

Yes, you can still be a batman fan and not favor a line in the holy begins.

Back to the topic, I expect the joker to be the bringer of the most laughs in the theater. Why people cringed at the oneliners in begins is because nobody laughed at them when I saw BB. Maybe they're kinda chuckle worthy when you're alone watching it on your computer or wherever, but in the theater the crowd I was with weren't impressed. Just indifferent because like someone said there was no need to inject typical hollywood humor in such a serious film.

I want TDK to avoid it. Just try to move away from cliches of the past and craft something beyond what we could imagine it'd be.

Alfred will definitely bring the funny though I hope to see him more as a butler, less as a mentor.

I honestly think Joker will make or break this film. Why? Because by the time batman became batman in begins, I lost most of my interest. I've seen it. Batman chasing down a thug in a dark alley? ZzzzzzzzzzzZZzzzzzzz

The most interesting part for me was the scarecrow's since that was new. But he was just dispatched in that pathetic way when Rachael tasered him, ugh...lame. Hopefully Joker can somehow survive now that Katie and her deadly taser are out of the picture (I'll miss you, holmes.)

That kind of stuff isn't funny. You shouldn't build up this Crain guy to be a great threat to batman and then Zap, he's out like Boba Fett. Have we learned nothing from Return of the Jedi?

my complaint was "its not who i am udnernearth but what i do that defines me" was just a really bad, unoriginal way of saying

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

can you think of a better way to say that? and how is it unoriginal? I've never heard that line in ANY MOVE EVER. wow just gtfo

The one liners and funny moments in the film off of the top of my head are:

"You should've tipped better"- Homeless Guy
"What is the point of all those push-ups if you can't lift a bloody log?" -Alfred
Bruce Wayne's drunken speech and subsequent headline in the paper.
"Back up?" -Flass
"What? No Gun? I'm insulted" -Falcone

There were others, the movie has some great funny moments. It does have some stinkers. "Nice Coat" is among the notables especially after the "I'm Batman" line.

-R

"What do you call that?"
"Damn good television".
:)

That's the funniest moment in the movie for me. To be honest the only moment I found to be force is when Alfred is shoving Dawes in the back of the car and it looks bizarre to passers by. It felt like highschool humor. :) I didn't mind any of the other stuff. I didn't laugh, but I didn't mind either.

You don't like Batman.

let's try not to bring the argument down to that level, if you can try to talk like a grown-up that is.

The thing that always bothered me about that line was how it seemingly contradicts alot of conventions about humanity, like the idea that people can be good at heart etc, as opposed to being purely defined by their actions, there should be a balance. The words themselve just don't seem to play out right at all IMO. I'd have to agree that it seemed like an attempt to create a "classic" movie line, unfortunately it came off a little contrived and convoluted in it's logic.

'It's not who I am underneath, but my big scary costume, massive tank, underground lair, and inexplicable desire to reveal my secret identity to every woman I fancy, that defines me'
