Kind of a silly question, but worth discussing.

How do you guys think that his webs will look in the film? Will it be similar to Tobey's, or have a different look due to the fact that it's mechanical? Also the sound it makes as well, it does play a small role in the movie IMO. It has to be distinct yet subtle, any ideas?

If it's not broke don't fix it
even thou I didn't care much of the Raimi films, they definitely had the webbing done right

Seriously... how freaken different COULD it look!??? it's a pretty simple thing.

compare the web from Raimis Spiderman movies to the web from the animated series... that's how different it can be

Apples and oranges......comparing live-action to animation is stupid

But they'll probably keep the look pretty much the same. It may have a more artificial look to it because of the mechanical webshooters i.e. not as actual spider web looking (very clear and sticky) and bit more nylon/plastic wire looking.

Like spaghetti. Nah hopefully not too different from Raimi's films

This is Raimi

Thin, wire-like. Didn't care for much.

As you can see here it's more sticky-like? if that's the word.

I think TSSM webbing would look sick if they could find a way to do it.

i think it should be thicker, like the 90's series web or something like Web of Shadows

WOw, I can't beleive somre people are ACTAULLY saying that the webbing looked bad in Raimi's films. That's not an opinion, that's just..........wtf?

Raimi's webbing was fine. But let's see something different. Just because.

Only time I didn't like the webbing in Raimi's films was in the climactic battle with the Green Goblin, when Spidey seals off the arch with webbing. It not only looked thin and horrible there, but when the Goblin tears through it, there's a more than audible 'CREAKCREAK.' WTF.

I wouldn't mind something different this time around, though. Maybe something a little less perfect. In the Ultimate comics, for example, you have a lot of times where when he's webbing them up, it's just this big sticky mess, to the point that the criminals will often say something to the effect of, 'AUGH, WHAT IS THIS STUFF?'

LOL, they're webs! I mean, how different should they look, lmao?!

I think you're underestimating how much their appearance could actually vary. In the comic pictures I see colour alone change from grey/white to dull brown to even purple. It can be a single wire, it can be bunch of loose thin strands spiraling around a thicker central strand, or like a chain of snot.
Raimi's movies made them look much more like actual spider silk than I used to imagine them. It was probably because of this that we never saw the web embalm/encase anybody or behave like a blob of glue. It would've looked bizarre to see actual spiderweb behave this way. Although he did shoot those wierd 'rubber bullets' in raimis movies which were nothing like spiderweb. I recall seeing 'impact webbing' before the movies but not rubber bullets.

As a kid I used to make 'webs' by linking rubber bands together into a chain and putting a weight on the end. Then go around casting it at things and trying to get it to hook itself around poles and chairs. I'd be interested to see a dryer more artificial appearance, and seeing more variation in it's texture. From thick fabric like strands to blobs of liquid cement. Spidey's webs rarely function like actual spiderweb.

Trus, but i juts don't think it's that big of a deal, especially on film. In cartoons and comics? yes, but films? Not to much. Raimi's design for the webs was pretty much perfect, IMO, and how it would really look.

I don't even get why we need a thread for this. How much is there to discuss about this, I mean really? These boards are spammed with pointless threads lately.

The webbing looked GREAT in Raimi's films, except for the train stopping scene in Spider-man 2. Probably cause it wasn't CG that time.

Seriously, it was like some floppy plastic twizzlers or something. :funny:

I have a hard time ignoring it ever since I noticed it. :csad:

Embarassing props aside though, that's my favorite scene from all three movies.  It's so iconic and moving, and intense. One of the best superhero moments on film, imho. And probably the coolest use of webbing I could imagine.

So yeah, Raimi's webbing at it's best, in CG, has that really nice, glistening, spindly look. I love that. I hope they stick with it.

Also, just sprung to mind, Peter learning to use his webs in the first film is probably the best portrayal of his personality in the entire trilogy:

Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I like it. Slightly irrelevant, I know.

I'm hoping the webbing will look like a thick piece of old rope (when swinging) or a fishing net (when used to trap criminals), like the old live action 70s Spider-Man tv series with Nicholas Hammond. It's great to see how those unwieldy things can magically come out of his tiny web shooters.

I'd love to see the way Todd Mcfarlane drew them, kind of like 4, 5 strands of thin wire, with knots in them.

Kinda like this:
