The Dark Knight Rises How Would You Continue the Story from TDKR? (Spoilers)

Bruce comes back to Gotham for awhile just to train Blake in the art of combat after he breaks up with Selena and teaches him to use new technology in his pursuit as Batman. The two go out together on missions in training. The appearance of other master criminals such as the escape of the Joker and Scarecrow, rise of Mad Hatter, Riddler, Black Mask, and others appears to start terrorizing the city and the two must act. Wayne Enterprises starts to make a comeback financially, Bruce runs it from the shadows through Lucius as CEO and is able to pick up more toys for combatting crime. A new Wayne mansion is built on the outskirts of Gotham with a bigger and better Batcave placed under the ground, Bruce and Blake work together to end crime in Gotham. I would say Blake is the first Robin who gets killed by the escape Joker eventually. Eventually Bruce will find another orphaned boy named Dick Grayson to take in and teach as the next Robin. Jim Gordon is murdered and his daughter follows his leads to Batman who demands training to find his death. You know the rest.

I'm gonna be the outcast and say YES.

JGL as Nightwing or a new version of Batman (Beyond). Riddler, Penguin, Mr Freeze done in Nolans style. Oldman back as Gordon, with the inclusion of Sarah Essen and Harvey Bullock. Gordons daughter Barbara coming into the fold, grown up. A tiny role from Fox. And subtle references to Bruce once in a while to keep him alive from the likes of Blake/Gordon/Fox.

It seems to be an unpopular choice but what the heck. Before i saw this movie i was One-THOUSAND percent against more movies. I was completely in support of this trilogy not being touched ever again. Once i saw the ending, i was completely invested in Blake. And i find myself thinking up stories of where this new Batman or Nightwing can go and where Gothams going to be after that "war". Just how i felt when i left the theater in Batman Begins wanting to see how the Joker fit.

JGL is more than capable and Gary certainly wouldnt think twice about joining him. Chris or no Chris. The problem is getting JGL to do this or to get Nolans blessing.

I'm with you 100%,

I loved the Blake character and when he found the cave at the end I just new from that moment I wanted to see him suit up.

I would prefer it as Nightwing rather than Batman. They could do it as a new separate Trilogy (The Nightwing Trilogy) Maybe try keep Gordon and Fox from The Dark Knight Trilogy oh and Blake obviously but that's it.

And seeing as Blake is pretty much an original character there is a lot of creative freedom available to whoever takes it on.

Nightwing/John Blake - Joseph Gordon Levitt

Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot - Philip Seymour Hoffman

Edward Nigma/Riddler - (You will all hate me for this but I can see him doing a job in this role) Neil Patrick Harris

I know that last one wont be a popular choice but hey just thought I'd throw it out there. I mean I guess if Nolan did these films again it would probably be Di Caprio. which I also think would be good.

I prefer Nightwing too. Others prefer Batman. Maybe he starts as Nightwing and when he gets all the tools he evolves into a new Batman?

Gordon for sure but Fox would have to be limited to maybe 1 movie. In a smaller role too. The character and Morgan are getting up there in age.

Yeah that could work. I just imagine Fox being the for guidance in using all the technology at his disposal.

Or they could introduce Lucius Fox Jr from Batman Beyond.: The son of Bruce Wayne's former business partner, Lucius Fox, and CEO of Foxteca. Lucius the second now serves as Wayne's business partner after he and Wayne merged their companies as Wayne Incorporated.

Obviously as Blakes Business Partner instead of Waynes.

An elseworlds graphic novels or what have you, sure have at it. But cinematically, they should leave it alone like the artist intended if it worked so well. Nolan's Batman stories are about Bruce Wayne's journey as Batman, and only Wayne's. Blake, despite being so specific in his role, is but one part of the overall legacy that Wayne leaves behind as an end to the overall story's arc. I think in this respect, this collection of films should remain and be remembered by what it was, and not what else others think it could be.

I would personally love to see him be the new Batman. How he deals with the City speculating on his identity, new criminals wanting to take him down quickly and how he realizes to battle the new breed of criminal in Gotham...he needs a family.

I'd use Under The Red Hood as the base for the story, have it that Blake has grown frustrated with the limitations of justice and has started using more extreme measures.

This leads to Bruce needing to return and for Batman to face the Red Hood in a battle of ideals amidst a new mob war.

I started plotting something out with MB. It's not really finished yet - I still have to add in a lot of layers and subplots, but here's my idea for a first movie:

* Takes place 3-4 years post TDKR.

* John Blake has just returned home from years of training in Europe and Asia under the guidance of Bruce and Selina.

*Lucius Fox has finally proven that the stock trade in TDKR was a sham, and regains a controlling interest in Wayne Enterprises.

* Jim Gordon is acting "war time" major - working with Federal agents to restore order in Gotham.

* Gotham is a mess. All of the criminals that were prosecuted under the Harvey Dent Act have been released.

* The Narrows is where the majority of the criminals have congregated - leaving it even worse than it was at the start of Batman Begins. Arkham Asylum has also grown into a once again prominent role under the leadership of it's new Chief of Staff, Dr. Hugo Strange.

* Dr. Strange is secretly in command of the Circus of the Strange crime syndicate - its enforcers being the grotesque Professor Pyg and the psychotic La Flamingo.

* John Blake dawns the persona of Batman for the first time to delve deep into Arkham Asylum to investigate reports of strange occurrences and disappearances around the Asylum. He finds that inmates and Narrows citizens alike are being brainwashed into foot soldiers for the mysterious Black Glove by Professor Pyg.

* Inside the Asylum, Dr. Strange attempts to drive Batman mad - submitting him to all kinds of horrific experimentations. But Batman remains triumphant and rescues all of the families.

* Meanwhile La Flamingo prowls the streets of Gotham, committing countless murders and mutilations that send Gordon and his task force on a continuous wild goose chase.

* The murders cause public support for Gordon and the Police to plummet dramatically.

* Spurred on my secret agents for the Circus of the Strange, Riots begin to pop up all over Gotham. One of these riots is at the Wayne Manor Boys home - and all of the children are kidnapped by Strange.

* As Gordon and the police task force attempt to quill the rioting and Flamingo's murderous rampage, Batman goes back into the Asylum he barely escaped from earlier in the film.

* He finds that the Asylum has been totally deserted by the staff and inmates and prisoners run free - all except for one "special" prisoner who few care to mention by name.

* His body and mind under attack by the inmates, Batman has to have some deep personal revelation about himself to save the day, defeat Pyg, and rescue the boys.

*Gordon and his men just barely manage to stop the chaos caused by Flamingo and bring some sense of order to Gotham.

* But during which, Strange has used the rioting, crime, and Batman's absence to steal political and governmental support away from Gordon and the movie ends with Strange announcing the creation of "Arkham City".

I like this but would still prefer it to be Nightwing. However think this would be very cool but maybe not in the next movie or have this story play out over a trilogy in which Nightwing/Batman having to battle his villains Riddler/Penguin/Zsaz or whoever over the 3 movies before finally stopping Stange.

The only issue with an Arkham City thing is the sequel would be bloody similar to TDKR. Either Bruce returns to sort the City out again or Blake's Batman has to clean it up.

I'd keep it small scale and intimate. Pyg is a great idea as is La Flamingo. I'd save Strange as an Easter Egg. I have something I'm working on. Will post it eventually.

Very mob-based. Good stuff though. :)

Look forward to reading it.

While I enjoy reading about how people would continue the story, it'd take an incredible piece of writing to do something worthwhile.

The story is finished, nowhere left to go. I'm not particularly anticipating a re-boot either. i would love to see a Superman/Batman story though, in the vein of Loeb's work, which I always enjoyed. But whether anyone can produce something on the emotional scale of TDK trilogy....well, it'll take better writers than Goyer and J.Nolan. Obviously another series will be made, but I'd prefer a T.V series, without the origin stuff as that's been done now. Established Batman in his early days, leaning on a more fantastical take in a more fantastical world.

I do like that idea of Hugo Strange and the end where Gotham becomes "Arkham City". Im plotting a bunch of stories myself. A Nightwing spin-off that is a direct sequel to Rises which actually leads to a Batman Beyond/Arkham City trilogy.

4 stories that are all based around what Nolan gave us with his 3 films.

Dr. Hugo Strange is introduced in the Nightwing spin-off with Riddler as the lead villain. Characters like Essen, Bullock, Barbara Gordon are introduced in this one as well. Fox has a small part but no more. At the end, Blake accepts that he must step up to the plate and become the Batman. At this point he is ready.

The Beyond/Arkham trilogy has Nygma in a tiny recurring role like Crane in Nolans movies. Strange is behind most of it but not too much "screentime" so to speak. The major players like Mr Freeze, Penguin and the Joker are all here. A lot of other freaks have parts to play... Black Mask, Killer Croc, Clayface, MadHatter, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Harley Quinn. Most of them have glorified cameos. This new Batman almost has to go through a gauntlet, one by one.

Gordon is a big part of this with his daughter who's role is expanded as The Oracle when Lucius retires.

Bruce is involved in the very last story. He trains Blake in Italy where he resides with Selina and their child. Blake travels outside of Gotham because he feels he's about to take it too far, or maybe he has already, and wants to stop the problem in Gotham without resorting to murder. He needs the training that Bruce had so he can handle his enemy better. Bruce talks some sense in to him in the same way Alfred or Ducard did in both his training and when he had to deal with the Joker.

Has anyone been trying to think of things backwards and telling stories in a previous sense?

I've been trying to write something that takes place in between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight during what I can guess is Christopher Nolan's take on "Batman prime" time. I always wanted to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman's take on the Penguin and have it be he's running an underground mob syndicate at his club "The Ice Lounge" and Batman has to figure out a way to take him down.

....though if I had to continue the story I would turn John Blake into an Azrael character and perhaps the power of the symbol of has turned him into something that goes WAY too extreme against the structure and it's up to Bruce to come back to Gotham a year later to clean up Blake's intense enforcement.

Batman Beyond

The movie would start like the TDKR with a montage kind of showing the events of the last film. In between we are getting shots of Robin Blake training with different mentors then finally one says you have learnt every thing we can teach you. Robin still feels like he is incomplete and is not worthy to wear the batman suit donned by the original Bruce Wayne. We see him return to the cave were he looks at intently and says to him self I’m still not ready and doesn’t know if it is even the time for batman to even return does the city even need him yet. Gotham is once again on the mend a year after banes terrorist attack on the city but many criminals are still on the run. Commisioner Gordon is still head of police but is under public scrutiny of whether he actually did cover up Harvey dents crimes and some of his men are unsure whether to trust him. Although his career life may be struggling his family has returned to him with an older Barbara living with him. The film will be under the themes of following on in some one else’s shoes and the hard ships of trying to be your man but always been compared to someone else and living in another’s shadow. I took influence from Batman 455, 456 and 457 also Batman Beyond series as am sure you can all guess by title and Mad Love. Robin begins to hang out at bars and with cops to see if he can get a handling on any crime that he can test him self against. He finally hears about a robbery that is going to take place but at the last minute decides not to wear Bruce’s costume and goes out in an outfit that is a mix between Nightwings and sumet very similar to Bruce in begins except has two escrima sticks as weapons. At first things go rather well but lacks the ability to go after the goons when one manages to get to a car and get away citing that they don’t fear him like they did Bruce. The police then arrive and blame the masked Robin. He takes this very badly and doesn’t see him self worthy of the mantle and decides to close the cave forever and only is glad that he hasn’t shamed the symbol of the bat by being seen wearing the suit. Mean while we see a Dr Harleen Quinzel take a job at Arkham Asylum as a psychiatrist and is greeted to a new in mate The Joker?

The Joker warps Harleens mind and has her break him out of prison and hatches a plot to draw out the Batman not believing in his demise. Mean while Robin meets with Gordon and establishes a better relationship with him and realises he just wanted what was best for the city through this encounter he also meets Barbara Gordon and asks if he can take her out some time. The two go on a date and while walking her back home Robin and Barbara are attacked by thugs who want there money the two manage to fight them off as a team and are both surprised by each others moves. Barbara says you learn being the police commisioner’s daughter and was also a gymnast at school.

Mean while we see Joker making a chemical (smilex) that he decides to let loose at the orphanage at Wayne manor. This drives Robin to want to wear the costume and become the Batman but after he manages to find the Joker at a run down chemical plant that Gordons men were also ready to check out finds that the suit is to hard for him to manoeuvre in and fails to stop joker getting away with Harley Quinn giving him a harsh beating. More to come

Reports that there is a new Batman are leaked from the police and reported by Vicky Vale on the news. Robin goes to see Mr Fox and asks him to make a cure from what he has learned at the chemical plant. He then tells Robin that if he is going to continue this legacy that he should do it his own way and has his own look. Together they design a new suit that is very similar to the Batman of the future one except has two escrima/billy clubs on his back. While at home gathering things Gordon drops by and tells him to stop what he is doing telling him that this is not the life he wants and that not he has large shoes to fill the news then comes on and The joker has kidnaped Vicky Vale and makes her do a report on him saying how this man is not the real batman and is a pretender and that he will cause chaos until the real Batman comes back. Robin now in his new suit goes to the location where they are shooting this turns out to be a trap but Batman manages to easily defeat these thugs and leaves them for the police this is all captured on tv by one of the goons still holding the camera to which he says who are you and Robin tells him I’m Batman before taking him out. We then see Gordon been asked why the signal has not been turned on yet and if this new batman is legitimate. Gordon returns home to Barbara. They go in to detail of whether Gotham still needs a Batman and how he can draw some of the crazies out of the wood work. There is then a knock at the door Barbara goes to answer the door but when she opens it is shot by the joker he then barges in and manages to capture Gordon and leaves Barbara to die Robin shows up and manages to save her life although she may never be able to walk again.

The signal comes on in the sky but Robin guesses something is wrong and heads to the roof of the police headquarters. Joker has managed to chain Gordon the signal and has put a smeared red painted grin on his face Batman attacks him on the roof and is close to killing him with all the news and police helicopters watching him but stops himself not wanting to shame the mantle. Joker then tazers Bats and tells him that he is just a fake and that he wants the original his Batman. Batman then stops him saying you must truly believe your own lies. He tells him that he went and checked on the real joker and that he had been moved out of the country and was constantly doped on drugs so that he could not escape. This makes joker go wild mad saying your wrong that he is the pretender not him he goes to kill him but Robin uses his stealth mode and manages to vanish as joker throws himself at him he misses and nearly falls off the building Batman goes to pull him up but as he does goes to stab him again we hear a stabbing sound and see the shock expressions on the two characters faces but then see a blade been stabbed through Joker from behind by Quinn. She tells him that it was her that had tricked him into thinking he was the joker and that this was all a test. She tells him that she was sent by the real joker and was his original psychiatrist only for her to be removed from his treatment after falling for him. She goes on saying how Batman always needs a Joker but that he (the fake) is simply that a joke the real threat the punch line has yet to even reveal him self and that he will reclaim his kingdom and that she will finish him off now to draw out the original Batman. They fight and Batman manages to defeat her. Still she tries to take Gordon but then we hear a bang Quinn looks at joker who has a flag coming out of his gun saying bang she laughs at him pitying him before he pulls the trigger again and the flag shoots into her he says ‘now do you get it’. Quinn falls from the roof and dies and the Joker has his last laugh telling Batman that it wasn’t himself Joker (still believing him self to be original) someone bigger is behind her plan and training before also dying, this confuses Bats even more. The police announce that they are going to enter the roof Batman cuts down Gordon and tells him that Barbara is safe. Jim tells him that he is worthy and is the new Batman the police all come out with there guns but Gordon tells them to lower there weapons. He asks if he will see him soon and Batman replies the next time you need me you know how to reach me before jumping off the GCPD HQ.

After credits scene
We then see someone on a roof saying ‘it begins, Quinn has reassured me that Bruce is gone there is no way he would have trusted someone else with the mantle’ and that his plan to give her false info regarding a made up plan from the joker has worked. ‘Soon I will defeat the pretender and inherit my birth right END.

The sequel I don’t have all planned out yet but villain at the end would be Damian Wayne who was born in artificial womb. The plan was for Him to rule Gotham and rebuild it in the league of shadows vision but with Bruce saving the city the plan failed. Damian will now see Blake as a usurper to the throne and will want to defeat him. There will be more to it but not thought to much about it yet. Also I know people might not like Joker idea but it was only way I could think of so people would not been able to compare to Heaths interpretation. What do you think?

:whatever:

Selina becomes an earnest housewife and splendid cook.
Bruce becomes a cobbler vending his refined and tasteful footwear at a quaint sea-side kiosk.

From time to time as Bruce wonders around the winding narrow streets of the local bazaars he sees a well-to-do Italian magnate boasting about his newest Lamborghini. Bruce smiles and shakes his head. Those days are long gone. Now he is the humble man. The better man.

:hehe:

Curious to see what most of you think happens in this Batman story in the Nolan-verse

The ending left with a "Leave it to the viewers imagination" on some of our characters.

So what happens in your mind in the next 5-10 years in Gotham and our characters?

In my opinion

[blackout] JGL becomes Batman for the foreseeable future...Bruce will live his life with Selina and will have his watchful eye on Gotham...As always a really bad evil rises, and JGL needs help. Bruce & Selina come back to help Blake/Batman this one time....Blake feels the burden is too much as a Batman but he can be used better in a different role for Gotham. Bruce & Blake find someone...Richard Grayson, your new Batman. Blake becomes Robin and the Robin & Batman duo will work together to take care of Gotham[/blackout]

Which is my biggest problem with the whole John Blake thing in the first place. What makes him any different than the fake Batman at the beginning of TDK? It's not like he's a cop anymore

Who says he becomes Batman right at that moment?
