The Dark Knight Rises How Would You Continue the Story from TDKR? (Spoilers)

Im convinced now that blake will become the dark knight sometime down the road. And Im calling it now. 15-20 years from now a dark knight returns type story will take place..superman and all. Ive a gut feeling WB was involved more in this ending than anyone will admit. I liked the film, but theres studio interference written all over parts of it. Just my opinion of course. But I think the the tea leaves are pretty easy to read in this case.

Blake's story is what I was thinking about for something like this. Besides, that is something we all would like to see, right? Blake-as-Batman? Maybe the story would be of, and this is a pitch of mine: Time after TDKR; Gordon is still commissioner, and Alfred is in charge of Wayne Manor's Thomas and Martha Wayne Orphanage with Blake. He has trained in basic fighting, with acrabatics, but is not Batman; instead, he uses the Batcave to monitor whatever crime is in progress and help the GPD like a guardian angel. But things escalate when a new enemy appears, lets say Penguin(?) and the guardian angel bit doesn't seem to work anymore, and Blake has to become something else, and that "somethign else" is something Blake doesn't feel right for. And even Alfred by his side, is reluctant because of what hardships Bruce Wayne dealed with when he was Batman. But with no other options available; Blaek must become the new Batman. Bruce Wayne was Batman; a Dark Knight, and it worked. Will it work again or will it spell doom for Robin John Blake as Batman; the Caped Crusader?
DARK KNIGHT SAGA: THE CAPED CRUSADER

At least, that would be my idea. I can imagine someone would come up with something better.

I'm already thinking of writing something myself. Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer should seriously get together and write a script or something that could turn into a graphic novel. Or a series of them. It would be fantastic. The artists hired for the job can draw them exactly like the actors. Freeman, Oldman, Caine, JGL you name it. Bale..for real..won't ever return so this is a good way to have him appear in comic form with all of his nuances. Not to return as the Batman cuz i dont agree with that, but to train Blake at some point.

One of my ideas is to have Blake reluctant but still he roams around as Nightwing in the first story. Racking up all the free'd prisoners and mercenaries from Banes revolution. A detective story featuring Nygma. Until the end, where before Fox retires he does one last thing for Blake. In honour of Bruce because his obvious final wish before leaving Gotham was to groom Blake into being the next Batman. So Fox makes him a suit that's very similar to the Batman Beyond suit for Blake. By the end of it Blake finally accepts that he must become the next Batman.

I wouldn't mind something along these lines for Nolan's Batman universe.

But, on a sidenote...even the Smallville comic is still crap.

It could be done, but if there is a reboot of the character in the future I don't know if it's going to happen. Robin getting hold of the old Bat Suit and becoming Night Wing or Robin would be an interesting plot to carry on.

If Blake is gonna be anyone he would be Nightwing imo.

I was thinking about this today. What if they did continue the story on film, but instead of Blake becoming Batman or Robin, he becomes a new character, actually referred to as The Dark Knight? He could wear a costume similar to the Red Robin costume, which would be cool because it's a mix of Batman and Robin. I don't know, just an idea I had. I think it might make for a good movie, though perhaps not a successful one.

I also think it could work where Blake takes over as Batman but gets himself killed, which brings Bruce back to Gotham because he ultimately realizes that even though he's let Batman go, Batman won't let HIM go.

I know it's way too early chronologically, but JGL would be an AWESOME McGinnis........

If DC started making Nolan-verse Batman comics with Blake as the Dark Knight, facing "Nolanized" versions of the Batman villains not seen in BB, TDK, or TDKR, I would buy that in a heartbeat.

I don't know, that seems like a bad idea to me. Whatever they do with John Blake, there's bound to be haters. So many people have different ideas and takes on what he would become. Some want him to be the next Batman, others Robin, Nightwing, and even Red Robin. Whichever they choose to go along with, they're going to lose a LOT of people. I think it's best they leave it as it is. This way, John Blake is whoever we need him to be. :)

That said, since I'm sort of dying to see what comes next, I'd buy into it!

I'm all for continuing this saga...in movie theaters.

The thing is though, you have to go against one of Nolan's major themes...that the symbol can be eternal. What you'd have to do is have Blake as Batman (it makes no sense to have a symbol be eternal if you just invent a new symbol for every guy) but have him fail miserably. Turns out, Bruce Wayne really is needed to fill the role of Batman...so he returns to save the day.

That defeats the purpose of the ending though. Bruce is done, finished. He's found his peace.

Yeah but...neither comics fans nor movie goers would accept the long term idea that Bruce Wayne is no longer Batman. Personally, I'd be fine with it...I think that superheroes should die and stay dead...but i can't see keeping Blake as Batman being a good idea financially for a film.

I'd like to see a quality animated feature film done by the same guys that did the Year One animation that takes place between BB and TDK.

Also I don't think Bruce can ever return as batman in the Nolanverse on the count of people know he's Batman.

Or do they ? I need to see it again.

I think it'd be really cool if Blake takes up the mantle but goes with a more Nightwing inspired costume though still calling himself Batman. Fails at it and the Bruce comes back to train him

Exactly.

If not the movies, then either Goyer/Jonah or some other writer should come along and find a way to continue this story. If it's just on paper it could be a MASSIVE seller.

And for those of you who think a Blake as Nightwing/Batman movie isn't going to sell much...i disagree. If JGL is on board (which i doubt any of this will happen) then it'll be very easy to snatch up Gary Oldman i think. Get em on board but make it clear it's a continuation of Nolans DK Trilogy. It's gonna be huge.

The audience won't care if Bale or Caine are back or not. Or if it's Bruce Wayne under the cowl, or if Nolans directing. If Jonahs writing then that's a bonus as long as they're not bad mouthing the project in the press, then it's fine. The only time they can sell a Batman movie or Batman related movie that has nothing to do with Bruce Wayne is if it exists in Nolans world.

Same continuity with a couple of the same actors, using rogues that Chris never used? That's a money-maker.

mee too

In my head – especially since I loved the character and JGL's performance – Robin Blake becoming something akin to Nightwing is amazing, taking on more detective-based crimes and villains, more low-key not so "epic" so to speak.

But even though I like to fantasize about it, I'm not sure I would want it, the ending was so perfect I don't want it to be tarnished even a bit.

The comics idea is damn cool though, I take that over a movie for sure.

I'd prefer the franchise retain this one degree of ambiguity.

That's also true, the slight ambiguity of the ending is part of why I love it so much.

Bruce has come to terms with the death of Rachel but he realises a life lazing in the sun is not for him.

Comes back to Gotham because JGL is making a mockery of the Batman legend he created.

Visits his parents grave to find out just who they buried beside his parents.

Carries on as Batman because he actually wants to continue fighting crime.

What would be so cool about a story of Bruce coming back, is that the Cat would inevitably come back with him. :) The already-established story with them can play all throughout the movie.

I'd change one simple word from movie...

"Robin" to "McGinnis"

Enough said. I mean come on, we have flying batmobile here. The future does not sound too far. Besides futuristic theme allows a different theme reboot and Mr. Freeze to enter the fray easily.

Except noone knows who that is. This isn't Marvel, they don't really do wink wink Easter eggs for the hardcore
