Simple question, how would you guys handle a new Batman Reboot? Would you guys make it set in a bigger DC Universe with Superman and possibly other heroes living there or would you do the same as Christopher Nolan again with a self contained trilogy?

Would you guys use Year One? Go the Golden Age route? Make a movie set in Batman's career prime? Lets discuss and no this is not supposed to be the same as the "After Nolan what's next?" thread :yay:

I say focus on establishing the bat family in competent ways that can be taken seriously, even if it means deviating from the source material. I actually had an idea for a movie where Batman leaves Gotham for prague or some other cool Gothic European city to hunt down a vigilane who's been killing criminals and leaving the bat symbol as her calling card (cassandra cain batgirl). while in pursut of her he crosses paths with the league of assassins, not being headed by Bruces old flame/ now enemy Talia Al Ghul after the Death of R'as Al Ghul, and she has a certain dark hair child named Damian who's been trained since birth to be a fighting machine. Cassandra is also being hunted by the league becasue she is the Daughter of Cain, Bruces old trainer and higher up in the league. Meanwhile, in Gotham, Batman has left the city in the care of a young Vigilante who surfaced recently in Bludhaven calling himself Nightwing, who he wishes to guide and train. Nightwing winds up tracking down a myterious Hacker called Oracle who turns out to be the Commioners crippled daughter and enlist her help in tracking Down a murderer attacking the Mob under the persona of the Red Hood. Basically an entire filmed devoted to establishing the Bat family in one fell swoop. I think i was calling it Batman: Legacy or something to that effect.

The way I'd reboot Batman would probably tick off too many fans.

I'd use robots.

Mine too, mine basically (as i stated above) basically takes the best aspects of characters (IMO) and emphasizes them, Like having dick grayson start out as nightwing and have Damian be the first official Robin because Thematically, as Bruce Waynes son, I think he makes a more compelling ward (not to mention I love the precocious little Sh**) the reason I say official is because in the story idea i have, Jason Todd actually first creates the robin persona and goes out by himself to fight crime, bites off more than he can chew by crossing paths with the joker, and gets beaten into a coma with a crow bar. at the end, Damian finds the suit (batman took it to cover it up)

I'd make him a respectable african-american, fighting in a Los Angeles style ghetto with a sub-plot of his brother (who is still alive) who has a drug addiction commiting petty crimes. I'd also play on the Robin/Batman relationship and make him a repressed homosexual. I don't see much point in a reboot if it's almost the exact same thing.

I'd try to make the reboot something along the lines of Arkham City and/or Arkham Asylum.

Live action version of Batman the Brave and the Bold. Not campy but lighten the **** up.

Either a Batman Beyond trilogy or a new series where Batman is a middle aged vet as apposed to a newbie.

I'd reboot him as sort of the pinnacle of everything he'd achieved in Nolan's trilogy, and use Richard Grayson to introduce the audience to the new Bat Universe. I'd ensure he was in a crossover movie with Superman to establish the idea of a shared universe.

I'd keep the realism, and very much up the uberness of Batman, putting him on James Bond/Indiana Jones level of 'of course he knows how to do that' instead of asking the audience to learn how he learns what he knows again.

No military armour, more of the classic suit. Look at Spider-Man and Fantastic Four films. These heroes wear body tight costumes.

Colors? Cowl, cape, gloves and boots = black. The rest = dark grey, very dark.

Um, Batman's uniform in the comics bulletproof.

Just because it isn't hideous giant sheets of armor doesn't mean it's not bulletproof. Even in real life, I recall seeing video on the military testing body armor that was a very thin fabric.

I'd do a movie that takes place in 1939.

Or a Batman Beyond movie.

yeah, because that'll help when two face is shooting at him.

Yup, he's also frequently depicted as having kevlar underneath too. Moreover, it's rather silly the way Nolan (and many other filmakers) depict bulletproof costumes in their attempts to be "realistic". Just like the fact that silencers aren't really silent by any stretch, kevlar doesn't imply that you can idly run through gunfire carefree. Bullets travel at a certain velocity and so when it hits a target wearing armor that velocity still will transfer to the target and it'll turn what would've been a mortal wound into broken ribs and or blunt trauma. The magical, mystical kevlar depicted by Nolan is insanely unrealistic. If he was anywhere close to accurate Batman wouldn't have been able to walk after being shot by Two-Face, let alone tackle him over a ledge.

Like others have said; peak career, introduce the Bat family while (somehow) keeping the focus on Batman. Make it stylish and visually interesting like what we've seen in the Arkham games - but tone down the character design a bit.
Whatever happens I hope to god they don't start from the beginning again. Ugh.

Nolan's Batman is very gritty and down to Earth, I would make him more superheroish. Make his costume more like a costume with a dark blue cape and cowl and gray etc. I would make him an expert at combat, and being a detective. I would play up that he knows to the second how long he can hold his breath or how much he can lift. I wouldn't make him cheesy like the original movies or tv series staring Adam West.
But to distance him somewhat from Nolan's I would emphasise him being part of the Superhero community. Maybe also bring in the Bat-Family, like Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Huntress even, Question even. He would be a Batman like the animated series by Bruce Timm brought to life, a Batman who could team up with Superman.
this Batman, while semi down to Earth and not cheesy would fight bad guys like the Joker and Two-Face, while also being able to fight guys like Killer Croc, Clay Face, and Mr. Freeze.

I'd try to make the reboot something along the lines of Arkham City and/or Arkham Asylum.

^^ what he said.

or make a straight up adaptation of " arkham asylum : a serious house on serious earth " although WB would probably never go for that because it wouldnt be " marketable " to the kiddies :whatever:

I thought it would be interesting to do a movie version of 'Death in the Family' with Nightwing and Alfred as strong supporting characters. Perhaps tweak the storyline and include Ra's Al Ghul. I realized that reuses villains like the Joker and Ra's but I feel it's a highly adapted and thematic story.

I also thought: what if they did a non-linear, artsy story like Go, Drive or Sin City. Or something rather straightforward. I like the idea of Arkham Asylum which is basically give him a movie sized adventure. Kind of like a bond movie.

I'd make an 8 film franchise, start with a young batman and watch him grow.
