FBI track Wolverine pirate

SUGGESTING it was an inside job, Hugh Jackman's production company yesterday said it was close to uncovering the source that leaked X-Men Origins: Wolverine onto the internet this week, effectively allowing hundreds of thousands of people to see the action blockbuster one month before its cinema release.

Exclusively speaking to reporter Alice Wasley in LA, the film's producer John Palermo said he was "very involved in the investigation'' - which also involves the FBI - and hot on the trail of the pirate, who leaked an almost-complete, high quality copy of the movie to file sharing websites on Tuesday.

"I can assure you we will hunt them and track them down and we are actually very close,'' Palermo, who formed Seed Productions with Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee Furness, said.

"It's certainly a felony and we will press charges to the fullest extent and probably rally for piracy charges in the future to be taken more seriously.''

Palermo said he "could only imagine'' that the leak came from someone on the inside.

On Thursday it was speculated that someone from inside Australian firm Rising Sun Productions may have been involved because the visual effects company's watermark appeared at the start of the online copy.

But they were quick to explain they had never been in possession of a completed copy of the film and this was ``impossible''.

Palermo, who will arrive in Sydney tomorrow and join Jackman on Wednesday in unveiling a 20-minute preview of Wolverine on Cockatoo Island, said he was "not worried at all'' about potential damage the leak could do to box office takings.

"I feel bad for those fans who have the unfortunate opportunity to view it at such an early stage,'' he said.

"It's kind of like seeing a Christmas tree without the lights and the ornaments and the star on the top.

"That being said, both Hugh and I are touched and overwhelmed by the amount of support from fans.''

I hope they catch whoever it was. This place was a mess because of it. :( Heck, I lost 1,500 posts over it! :p

I really hope they do catch the leaker. Feel pretty bad for Hugh Jackman because of this

I've read that Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon already made jokes about it on their late night shows and in a few countries they are already selling it on the street.

If the box office is bad you know they are going to blame it on this and there probably won't be another Wolverine movie.

"I feel bad for those fans who have the unfortunate opportunity to view it at such an early stage,'' he said.

I'm glad actually. Now I know that we have another X3 on our hands (what a surprise) and that I don't have to waste money on another FOX movie.

well i didnt hate x3 and i actually know a lot of ppl (comic fans and not) who thought it was fine, just not as good as x2 was.

i feel bad for jackman too and im glad their taking the leak seriously though.

i refuse to tell anyone besides ppl i know who wont see it online, about the leak so it doesnt get around even further.

Well, I actually liked X3 and I know a lot of people that did.

The official promotion starts Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Australian actor Hugh Jackman will unveil the first official footage from his big-budget action flick X-Men Origins: Wolverine at a function on Cockatoo Island.

Despite reports that some footage from the film has already been leaked on the internet, a group of invited guests and media will be shown 20 minutes of official footage, with Jackman as host of the event.

The Australian screening and news conference mark the start of Jackman's worldwide tour to promote the film.

the whole thing is pretty silly (to be gentle)

the leak made me wanna go see it when it comes out, which is not how I felt before. the movie isn't very good but it seems like a dumb fun movie--

if the BO is bad it won't because of unfinished CGI, trust me

*because I have no mind I already posted what I had here*

Poor Hugh. I'm glad to hear he's taking it with a good attitude, though.

Of course, I don't think I've ever heard of him taking any thing any other way. He's amazing. :)

He must take lots of happy pills. :p

I'm thinking that people who wanted to see it, will see it in theaters eventually anyway,..even if they saw the workprint--they wouldn't be satisfied watching a subpar, unfinished version.

So, I don't think it'll hurt BO that badly. It'll be a smash-hit, and a success, but it'll definitely drop sooner than it normally would.

I enjoyed X3 when I saw at the cinema as it was a good, fun, action movie. It doesn't stand up to repeat viewing on DVD and I can see the flaws and wish for what might have been but that doesn't make it as horrible as some people like to pretend.

I'm expecting this to be better, though, because 1) no wig, 2) no Halle Berry 3)no clothes. Yes, I'm shallow but this is just a summer movie.

I hope it does well enough for the sake of Hugh and his production company. They're due some good luck.
