Have you actually read a HULK comic? He says a heck of a lot more than "HULK SMASH!". Which I would like to hear him say. Just pick up an issue of HULK from any decade. They could easily go with the HULK of now. His intelligence seems to be about average. It goes back and forth from Banner-esk, to the old "HULK SMASH"-esk. His always talked, and always said a lot more than just his catch phrases. It would also be like saying the Thing should never say "It's clobering time!". Or Jonny Storm should never say "flame on!". It's part of the character, but it's not all they say. A big part of the HULK's character is that he's child like. They need to portra(sp?) that.

This has been explained to you before, comics, cartoons and movies are COMPLETELY different mediums, what works in one doesnt neccessarily work in another. You mention Spidey's costume, but what about Wolverine's from the comics, do you think that would work? See i am a believer of keeping as much from the comic as possible, but some things just dont translate. I remember back in 2003 asking people why they didnt like the Hulk movie, some replies were "because whats good about a big green man who throws tanks around." In other words, they found it hard to suspend belief that the Hulk was real, now imagine if he was spouting lines like "HULK SMASH!" as well, people would find it even harder to believe, think about it.

^Imagine Wolverine in yellow spandex lol... well and Hulk saying "hulk smash"... I think it wouldn't be unbelievable but it'd give Hulk more stupidity. We've seen LOADS of evidence that Hulk is mindless. The "Hulk" word is already portrayed by Ang Lee beautifully. Why exploit that? We know he has a hulk (duh) mind. And also it would break the contrast of Bruce Bana being the intelligent scientific and Hulk being the dumb monster: Bruce talks, Hulk doesn't.

you are right, part of Hulk's character is his child like mind, for him its simple, you piss me off, i kick your ass. When was the last time you heard a child speak in third person?

exactly, TIH needs to have less things in it that people would laugh at, having Hulk talk alot like that would just make people laugh

See people have this attitude about certain costumes because they didn't do it. People had the same attitude towards Spidey's costume. "IT HAS TO BE CHANGED!!" "IT'LL LOOK STUPID!" "MOVIES AND COMICS ARE DIFFERENT"

I'm saying yes, Wolverine's costume can be done well. Singer just didn't want to make the effort to make it. It took Raimi like 100 costumes until they got one right. To say it can never be done well, again, lacks creativity.

If they changed DareDevil's like they were planning on, people would use his as an example as well. Same with Batman. It used to look terrible in the old shows. It would be like saying the old TV shows or even "Batman and Robin" proved you can't do a great looking Batman costume. When BB obviously did.

Very rarely. But when was the last time you DIDN'T hear the HULK talk in third person. It's part of the character. We've been comparing this to costumes and that's obviously not a good comparision. In the X-Men movies we see Wolverine, we saw his character, no costume but we still got to see Wolverine. The HULK movie, we got to see the green skinned HULK, but we never saw his character. Everyone I know didn't like it because of that and the whole Dad theme.

The Hulk should have dialogue, if only to show that he is not just a larger, brain-damaged version of Banner, but his own unique personality. TIH needs to explore the conflict between the two characters.

I´m all for the Hulk talking more but please pick some other guy to voice him then Lou. Ferrigno did a good job for the 90´s cartoons but those were cartoons and as such it was ok.

The Hulks voice needs to be deep and menacing for the movie, it should match his fearsome looks and add to peoples fear of him. If the movie has Ferrigno saying "Hulk´s friend" like he did in the cartoon series then the movie is doomed :(

oh thats just f**king stupid, we saw his character, we saw what he thinks about Banner, we saw what he thinks about Ross, we saw how he feels about Betty, we saw all kinds of s**t. Just because he didnt talk doesnt mean we didnt he his character. He talked when he needed to, what the hell was he going to say to the tanks and Helicopters when they were firing at him? Will having him say "Hulk smash" improve the scene?... will having him say that make anyone happy?, unless you are a fanboy. Did the TV show Hulk speak?

He doesn´t have to say "Hulk smash" but something along the lines of "Leave Hulk alone!" would have fitted well when the Hulk used the tank turret as a baseball bat :)

It´s just a question of finding the right thing for him to say.

but the thing is, do you honestly think, that saying that will stop them?... do you really think Hulk NEEDS to say that?

No, he doesn´t need to say it but it would fit with the character of the Hulk to say something like that.

The people who didn´t like the film wouldn´t have been won over by making the Hulk more chatty, but those of us who liked the movie (I loved it btw) would propably have found it even better if a few well chosen sentences had been uttered by the Hulk :)

exactly, they are trying to win over the ones that didnt like the first one, they dont really care about us, cause they know we will be there on opening weekend. Making Hulk talk like that, will only make the ones who didnt like the first one hate the sequel even more

It´s ok to make the Hulk talk as far as I´m concerned, just as long as he doesn´t talk like a three year old! The biggest problem I had with the 90´s cartoon was how Hulk talked, his voice (and general body language) was just wrong. The 80´s cartoon did this better with the Hulk being more savage and stupid (though good natured).

I liked the few things that Hulk said in the first movie, "Puny human" was a line I´m really glad they had in the movie.

As for whether or not he should speak in first person or third is something I´m not sure about. Third person is the classic mode that most people would be familiar with but to the general public this would no doubt seem retarted. I guess it all depends on the script which style will fit better.

I agree with ya 100%. Im so sick to death of people defending the weak ass lack of creativity with the "Yellow spandex looks teh stupid, ROFFLE!!!". Particularly stupid when no ones said anything about using Spandex. There are other fabrics, synthetics that could achieve it. Isn't that why Hollywood hires so many talented costume designers?
Fact is Batman, Superman and Spider-man have all succeeded with costumes. There's nothing explaining why the X-men are exempt from this.
Besides the fact Peter Jackson proved what was thought impossible(adapting LOTR to movies) in a movie is very possible when the effort is made. Making all preconceived notions of what isn't possible is purely a limitation in the mind of the person who believes it.

He should speak, but only short lines when he really wants to speak. I can see the film going down bad if Hulk suddenly starts expressing himself. He's bottled up rage. He's an anti-hero, all my favourite anti-hero's are mysterious silent types. The less they speak with words and the more they express through expressions, attitude and actions the more badass they come across. However if Zak writes a bad piece of dialogue that when read by Lou sounds stupid it's gonna really take some of the intensity out of Hulk.:O

In order for him to talk in 3rd person like he has for 40 years, he has to be more clearly referred to as "Hulk", as a name more than a description as was the case in the first movie. Something like the army or press dubbing him the Hulk.

1. I am a HULK fanboy. The avatar not enough for ya? Seems the sig would give it away.

2. The TV show sucked.

That's my point. If you can say that you believe in no way can the HULK speak without it being "dumb" you lack the creative mind to pull it off. It doesn't mean the movie director or script writer can't.

thats all i'm trying to say, Hulk can talk, yes, please. Have him talk but not alot and like they did in the first movie. Zak has to write perfect lines for Hulk if not, then the sequel would end up being kicked in the nuts

i know you are a fanboy, genius. As much as i hate how the TV show screwed with peoples' mind about Hulk, there are still people out there who think Hulk leaping in the first film was too much cause he didnt do that in the TV show ... i hate to say it but there are, the same people will be *****in about this too.

yeah, the writer of two of the most s**ty comicbook films is gonna write you a perfect Hulk film with great lines for Hulk that doesnt make him sound stupid

X2 and X3 where both great.

I don't even know why I'm trying to have a serious conversation with someone who has an avatar like yours. Anyone who looks at women like objects obviously has nothing of importance to say.

We don't need to delve into the dark areas of debating when doing so; he thinks it's a bad idea to have the Hulk talk, you obviously think otherwise. No reason to start commenting about his avatar. It would be as if I told a random poster their avatar or signature was 'lame'.
