I thought you understood that! It was in the movie that Spock stepped down, that is how Kirk became captain.
Apparently a bunch was cut from this movie and so some of your concerns may be anwered. My biggest concern with this movie was the lack of Nero as he was the villian and he was just pretty much anti climactic.yeah i understood how he ended up being captain, i was talking about the end "officialization" part at the end. i didn't think of the ste-down as permanent. if you do, then yeah it works.
bold 1. absolutely does not justify it.
bold 2. because it takes 4 years of training to be captain, 8 for your own ship. there are people who have been training for 7 years and 11 months. not fair for them.
he did save the world, maybe the universe. but one experience under his belt, not matter how grand, doesn't justify his ranking.
You know the number one rule I have discovered in my 51 years on this good old earth......LIFE ISN'T FAIR.![]()

It deserves it. This film was awesome!RT ratings are surging again: currently back up at 96%.
that's all I was trying to convey.... thanks for agreeing...i figured that was temporary, but a good point. i guess he gave up the position right then. he redeemed himself, and decided to go save the vulcuns. when old spock told him to go back, he asked kirk if he could join kirk's ship. and since it was a new ship that KIRK was actively captaining, then it would make sense for the federation to become captain of the ship as a token of their appreciation.
nicely done. i like it.
Nimoys Spock kinda had a hand in Spock on the pasts not being captain. Kirk was just doing what Spock told him too and that was making Spock act in a way that would make him reliquish his command.but didn't Spock give up command because he was emotionally unable to continue command of the ship? sure he redeemed himself with assisting saving the world.... but back as first officer, not captain.

well of course but we were talking the initial reason Jim has the ship not Spock....Nimoys Spock kinda had a hand in Spock on the pasts not being captain. Kirk was just doing what Spock told him too and that was making Spock act in a way that would make him reliquish his command.
I get ur points and agree some are valid too a point. I think if u nit-pick ur gonna find stuff that does'nt fit and you can say that about any film. TDK was'nt perfect it had issues and stuff that was not right.I don't understand... the praise this film is getting.
Look I am not a Trekkie fanboy - meaning I haven't seen every movie or episode, save for the recommended ones like "Wrath of Khan" and the "City on the Edge of Forever", but I found this movie a nicely dressed up but stupid movie. How the hell are you guys saying this is the best film since TDK?
I don't think Abrams is a bad director, and the film is entertaining, in a Michael Bay'ish way (albeit, Bay directs better action). But I don't understand how this is getting the RT score it is getting, and the praise of how it is the best film since TDK.- Nero was pretty much a one dimensional trailer park villain. I don't have a problem with one dimensional villains - as long as they have some kind of personality. Or help drive the plot in an organic way, like the Joker. The whole I want revenge for my wife, is just an illusion of depth...
- The quick promotion of Kirk who was not even suppose to be on board, and on academic suspension was stupid.
- The science behind the red matter black hole plot device was stupid, especially how it conveniently places Nero and Spock in terms of Time lines...
- Landing on a big barren planet and accidentally finding Spock was really stupid.
- The most important decision makers on the crew all get sent on the most dangerous mission (with little backup) was stupid. More importantly, IIRC, the Vulcans don't learn of the Romulan heritage thing this early on right?
- Spock-Prime risking the entire population and the whole of the Federation to force cultivate the Bromance between Kirk-2 and Spock-2 takes the cake of Kingdom Come stupid...
I don't really recall tv show wise because its been ages since i saw the tv show version on how Spock was number 1 or whatever. Tv show wise didn't they appoint Kirk after Pike was expelled from his captain dusties or something.
