It f***ing delivered. What more can I say?

I thought you understood that! It was in the movie that Spock stepped down, that is how Kirk became captain.

yeah i understood how he ended up being captain, i was talking about the end "officialization" part at the end. i didn't think of the step-down as permanent. if you do, then yeah it works.

Apparently a bunch was cut from this movie and so some of your concerns may be anwered. My biggest concern with this movie was the lack of Nero as he was the villian and he was just pretty much anti climactic.

bold 1. absolutely does not justify it.

bold 2. because it takes 4 years of training to be captain, 8 for your own ship. there are people who have been training for 7 years and 11 months. not fair for them.

he did save the world, maybe the universe. but one experience under his belt, not matter how grand, doesn't justify his ranking.

You know the number one rule I have discovered in my 51 years on this good old earth......LIFE ISN'T FAIR. :oldrazz:

true. aint fair for poor spock.

on that note, life isn't fair, but people should be. unfairness shouldn't stop us from making it as fair as possible, no?

i hope it could hammer out a bit more then. looking forward to the director's cut.

I agree about nero. he was such a s badass from the trailers and the beginning, i was hoping to see more of him also. bana was really good. would have liked to see more of it.

Loved the movie. Loved the casting. I can't wait to see it again.

i loved this movie as well. was not a 'trekkie' before but jumped on the chance to become a fan with a rebirth of the series.

i figured that was temporary, but a good point. i guess he gave up the position right then. he redeemed himself, and decided to go save the vulcuns. when old spock told him to go back, he asked kirk if he could join kirk's ship. and since it was a new ship that KIRK was actively captaining, then it would make sense for the federation to become captain of the ship as a token of their appreciation.

nicely done. i like it.
that's all I was trying to convey.... thanks for agreeing...:brucebat:

I don't know what to say..I'm shocked! I grew up with the later seasons of TNG, All of DS9 and my favorite: Voyager. I liked Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country. I loved Generations and First contact.

I never got into the original series because it was too dated for me. I grew up in the 90s lol.

But I have had a love for the original crew from their movies and I must say I was taken by surprise with this movie. I loved it. My friends are calling me, who are not trek fans who said they liked it or really enjoyed it. People were clapping all through the movie. It was fun, it was action that the summer needs, it was drama, great character development, and I never got bored or felt the movie was lagging. If anything the score made this movie so much more better.

They did their jobs, they wanted to refresh this by going back to the very beginning and bring in new fans to a tired Franchise...I think they did it!

8/10 I must see this again! I am an X-men fan at heart but I seriously want this movie to out do Wolverine, it already has critically but financially I want it to kick him in the balls!

but didn't Spock give up command because he was emotionally unable to continue command of the ship? sure he redeemed himself with assisting saving the world.... but back as first officer, not captain.
Nimoys Spock kinda had a hand in Spock on the pasts not being captain. Kirk was just doing what Spock told him too and that was making Spock act in a way that would make him reliquish his command.

Ijust got back from the showing and.....wow. Just about everything was perfect in this film from visual effectsto acting and suprisingly comedy. Only thing I have against the films is that the fight scenes were meh at best, Uhra was a bit underdeveloped, imo. Other than that, it was ****ing brilliant.

9.8/10

i can't wait to see where the series goes from here. i want to see modern updates of some of 60s stuff.

RT ratings are surging again: currently back up at 96%.

Was Ebert the one who ruined it?

I'm kinda getting tired of people complaing about the lack of intellect. It had plenty of it. It was in the dialogue, in the debates. But it also had to set up the characters and franchise. I think this new angle works really well for these films. I love the intellect part of it all, but how else are you gonna restart something like this than compromising some? And it wasn't a huge thing. There was still debate. Everything just balanced fine with me.

I'll appreciate the OS for the intellect and storytelling, I don't want it to be just like the OS.

well of course but we were talking the initial reason Jim has the ship not Spock....

I don't really recall tv show wise because its been ages since i saw the tv show version on how Spock was number 1 or whatever. Tv show wise didn't they appoint Kirk after Pike was expelled from his captain dusties or something.

I don't understand... the praise this film is getting.

Look I am not a Trekkie fanboy - meaning I haven't seen every movie or episode, save for the recommended ones like "Wrath of Khan" and the "City on the Edge of Forever", but I found this movie a nicely dressed up but stupid movie. How the hell are you guys saying this is the best film since TDK?

- Nero was pretty much a one dimensional trailer park villain. I don't have a problem with one dimensional villains - as long as they have some kind of personality. Or help drive the plot in an organic way, like the Joker. The whole I want revenge for my wife, is just an illusion of depth...

- The quick promotion of Kirk who was not even suppose to be on board, and on academic suspension was stupid.

- The science behind the red matter black hole plot device was stupid, especially how it conveniently places Nero and Spock in terms of Time lines...

- Landing on a big barren planet and accidentally finding Spock was really stupid.

- The most important decision makers on the crew all get sent on the most dangerous mission (with little backup) was stupid. More importantly, IIRC, the Vulcans don't learn of the Romulan heritage thing this early on right?

- Spock-Prime risking the entire population and the whole of the Federation to force cultivate the Bromance between Kirk-2 and Spock-2 takes the cake of Kingdom Come stupid...
I don't think Abrams is a bad director, and the film is entertaining, in a Michael Bay'ish way (albeit, Bay directs better action). But I don't understand how this is getting the RT score it is getting, and the praise of how it is the best film since TDK.
I get ur points and agree some are valid too a point. I think if u nit-pick ur gonna find stuff that does'nt fit and you can say that about any film. TDK was'nt perfect it had issues and stuff that was not right.
-I agree Nero could of been a great villain, but much was'nt made of him I think he was just used to build up Spock/Kirk...
-The Red Matter; I also agree it did'nt make much sence and they did'nt really explain it much.
-Kirks quick promotion I think Pike knew Kirk would disobey rules from his earlier talk with Kirk. Pike spoke highly of Kirk's abilities and knew his fascination with disobeying orders was a benefit..so,that point is trivial imo.
-Spock part I kindof agreed with you,it seemed forced to a point, though it also is how he found Scott..so go figure?
-

Though to call this movie stupid is a little harsh imo,but its ur opinion. Its by far been the most entertaining movie since TDK imo and I think it gets that from reputation. Batman/Star Trek probably have the most movies of any franchise or close too it,plus u add the fact both are Iconic movies/tv series.
Now hopefully J.J will do the sequel and it will follow the same formula as this one. Though it will be hard to live up to this one unless they can find a story/villain close to Khan(which I think was one of the best ST movies).

In TOS episode "The Menagerie"....Kirk says he became Captain of the Enterprise when Pike was promoted to Fleet Captain.

Amazing movie! A definite 5 out of 5. Everything was just amazing and awesome and I'm looking forward to more Star Trek films!

I went to the movie with my dad just expecting to be entertained, but not blown away! It has been awhile since I saw a movie that actually made me lean forward in my chair. There were parts when I couldn't blink. In some ways this was more entertaining that dark knight because I was surprised and had not been leaked any of the plot or obsessed over photos and interveiws months before the film.

Oh, and now I have a crush on Spock. That is a little weird...

Bringing on a younger Khan would be just what the doctor ordered in the next Trek film IMO.

Some may disagree, but some also disagreed with use of Joker in the sequel to BB in TDK.

Using the Joker in TDK turned out pretty damn well fellas.

Honestly, Khan has become the biggest Star Trek villain known by fans. It wouldn't surprise me if they go that direction.
