I Am Doom....discuss me [merged-2]

And no one asked you troll. Get a life you spend all the time being negative to people who haven't done anything to you. So bug off!

You were intentionally insulting to a large group of people on these boards after plenty of us have been voicing our anger at that kind of behavior. You may as well have literally asked for someone to take a shot at you. Grow a conscience and stop being a hypocrite, you superficial recording device.

DINO???

I assume that's Doom in name only.Meaning they have bastardized him.

*Sigh*

I call him "DDINO," so that another bastardized character in a movie to come whose name starts with "D" can use it. This bastardization is so heinous that it deserves an extra letter anyway.

I know you don't know too much about Dr. Doom (or you didn't the last time we talked about him), but I'm pretty sure you'd have a lot of respect for the character if you love Dr. Octopus as much as you do. Doom actually beats Octavius when it comes to being a self-made super-threat with mother issues and a surpreme, narcissistic arrogance towards all living things.

They need to announce at the beginning of the film, " All you people who grew up reading the F4 and especially all you Dr Doom fans better sit down for this..." :D
DINO, as of a week from now, will no longer be known as Fred Flinstone's pet. :(

Doc,

To be fair, they are coining this phrase based on what they've read in the novelization and the details we've heard about his physical make-up (organic metal skin). Unlike CINO ("Catwoman") which was a 100% departure in name, locale, interest, origin, and motives, this character does have many ties to its inspiration. So to say it's "bastardizing" him is a stretch IMO, as the novelization is itself an interpretation of the script--just like the movie.

Here's what we do know will be shown in this film:

1.) Background: Like the source material has defined, the film will make it clear he was a poor, humble boy with Gypsy roots from Latveria. Through his intelligence and skill he built himself into a self-made man in the Americas. While the flashback scenes to Latveria were cut (DVD maybe? ), there are many references to it throughout the film.

2.) Rivalry: His college history with Reed is intact, as well as the competition between them. His soured relationship with Ben Grimm is also preserved.

3.) Suit Of Armor: Both the scripts and the novel allude to Medieval armor being encased behind glass in his office (display).Whether or not he'll don the whole thing (beyond the mask) remains to be seen (don't hold your breath :p )

4.) Aspirations: From the script I can tell you that his goals for dominations include a global scale. It's mentioned on at least three different occasions, and some of these are also in the novelization.

5.) Resources: It's been established that Von Doom Industries is merely a public face for a man who owns major operations in the business, commercial, weaponry and scientific fields.

6.) Alpha Male: His arrogance and self-confidence permeates nearly all of his lines. He is not evil per se, but he does have enemies he wants eliminated.

7.) Narcissism: Like his comic book counterpart, movie Doom is vain. He considers himself a God among men, and this is referenced constantly in the script.

8.) Costuming: Some of Movie Doom's costume borrows from many looks the character has assumed over the decades. FOX struck down the costuming proposal that Tim Story originally submitted (striking regal stuff, maybe I'll post it), but what we have today in terms of his mask and hood, etc. does at least harken back to the source material.

9.) Destination: We also know that the conclusion of the film shows his return to the Latverian government, which may springboard him to monarchy in the sequel.

10.) Political Allegiances: The film's Doom is extremely passionate about his mother land and even has the Latverian Flag hanging in his office.

So, while there have been many changes (and some are definitely unnecessary) there is also much that has been preserved. When one considers the facts objectively, it is clear that this is nothing like CINO. It appears that some of my fellow Hypesters have lost sight of these things.

But beyond the aesthetic, whether or not Julian McMahon will actually capture Victor's personality no one here can vouch for yet. Neither the scripts nor the novelization can determine how the role is carried on screen.

I posted some reviews from moviegoers who have seen the film and were impressed with Dr. Doom's portrayal. But since the reviews are *positive*, apparently they don't carry much merit.

Ive never heard of these flashbacks before, were they filmed or just an idea that was scrapped ?

I heard it both ways. Six months ago, Thresh's contacts told him that they were scouting some place in northern Canada for "aerial shots". Lockjaw later confirmed this. Suddenly it was dropped altogether. But the "Behind The Scenes" books are all referencing that at one time it was definitely on the storyboards. There's A LOT of stuff Tim wanted for Doom, that FOX wasn't going for because they wanted him "updated".

One of the books says that at first FOX didn't even want to give Doom the mask, but rather just facial makeup! Tim and his costumers had to fight for that as well. I will find and scan in the pic of the original costuming Tim wanted for Doom...it's very regal, with gold trim, kilt and real, jointed body armor.

I See,god damn Fox ,no mask WTF?anyway i was wondering whether those scenes they shot down in new orleans(i think) could be where they shot these flashbacks
BTW i really want to see that pic,get scaning!!!!:hyper:

Yeah i heard of the flashbacks and wished they would have kept it. Hopefully they'll be a lot of extras for the DVD. And just one last note to Herr Logan i wasn't insulting anyone just merely expressing my own opinion which i'm entitled to just like you. The End of that.

Fox does some pretty dumb stuff. Don't let me get started on how bad their shows are on tv. At least we know that Tim had a great vision and that he fought so hard.

Facial makeup??? There would be mayhem all over if that had happened.

Once again, I must plead for a bit more civility here. For one thing, this is an all ages board and you can't assume that we are all over 21 here. I recall a funny but a bit disturbing incident at the Spider-Man boards over at comicbookboards.com. A writer by the name of Ron Zimmerman (a crony of Howards Stern's) was writing one of the Spidey spin-offs and was getting not so favorable comments from the fans. He logged on one legendary night and reamed a lot of them out in very graphic language. He later had to apologize quite profusely and we suspected Marvel made him do so, even though they have no boards of their own and really don't control the content on these boards I frequent. It was also found out that one of the guys he insulted was all of 12 but a very bright kid.

So let's all temper our comments to each other and keep the discourse on an intellectual level and dispense with the insults. After all, we really don't know who is on the other side of that internet posting name.

I remember those posts too, just so you guys know LS isn't just blowing smoke. They were doing something over some kind of estate that looked like a castle if I recall. No one should be surprised to hear that these La La Land execs are very heavy handed at a lot of these studios. It is too bad that Fox movie division doesn't take its lead from the guys over at FX on the TV side, where a lot of creators in that medium praise them for the hands-off policy of Peter Ligouri (sp?) . I mean, look at the stuff they can get away with on Nip/Tuck, the Shield, and Rescue Me.

Hey, did you get that baby from Von Doom Industries?? (* and thanks for your support *)

lol wonder how you got passed all that security. You made a very good point Iron Maiden it's just that some people's egos are too big.

I've heard many people here owe a great deal of these characters' bastardizations' blamings to the changes Fox has undergone since way back in the 70's when Star Wars came out. I observe that part of the reason Fox has changed so much is that (not even mentioning US sub-divisions here within the States, like Fof Searchlight) Fox is spreading themselves into not just divisions, but international corporations that share it's same name with itself by having "Fox studios Baja" as well as "Fox studios Australia". Common sense should telll anyone that doing this much growth not only takes the attention off of well.... let's face it, the art; and more on diplomatic matters, thus forcing a natural tendency to make a point of being as POLITALLY CORRECT AS POSSIBLE, but having to focus in on numbers, demographics and drawing lines and making rules for itself. This basically spells out, SYSTEM. They have a system they want to stick with and that's why they always reserve the rule of thumb of keeping it all down to "Based on's..." and "Adaptations."
Sure, whether or not it's a good or bad thing is debateable, but when a Studio is this conglomerated and instituted, you get what? Movies like this being done in a way that is base on fear of low numbers instead of quality.

You're a liar...

...it's just that some people's egos are too big.
... and this proves it.

I'm sorry, Iron Maiden, but I'm really just sick and tired of people getting away with these callous and repeated insults while I'm expected to play nice. I do indeed recognize my response to JulianM.Fan this morning was bitter and angry. It think the fact that he/she is presumably younger actually exascerbated my anger, rather than mitigating it, because they do it out of casual contempt instead of fury. Surely you can understand why those kinds of remarks anger me. Whether people want to admit it or not, I have been guarding both sides of this argument to a degree and defended people I'd rather not for the sake of truth and common decency. That doesn't mean I'm going to put up with blatant disrespect from people who think it's okay to insultvast groups of people and then hide behind the "it's just my opinion" excuse. That's intolerable, and I will treat it as such.

Truthfully, I don't care how old people are, as long as they don't show themselves to be disrespectful, brain-washed, conformist drones who insult fans that expect more. I've held everyone to the same basic criteria on these boards. I've seen 14 year-olds with the eloquence of highly intelligent 40 year-olds (Saph, in particular, who is actually an FF apologist), and middle-aged posters who come off like children in a sandbox. When I see a cease-fire across the board from people who see me and those like me as "whining fanboys," I'll pack my weapons away in their designated crates. I will continue to criticize the people responsible for the creative failures in comic book movies, but I have absolutely no need to insult other fans until they give me one. This entire struggle has always stemmed from dissenting fans criticising the studios and conformist fans insulting the dissenters. That does not imply equal culpability, does it?

Regardless of my stance in this matter, I respect your plea for civility. If most people were as intelligent and decent as you, I'd have no reason to be as bitter and angry as I am on these boards.

:wolverine

Whatever...you did attack me this morning for no good reason. I'm trying to stay on the positive. You did not have to put me down for that. Once again i did not insult anyone to any degree. Prove it!

Hiding behind "it's my opinion" yeah okay like i'm going to hide from you. You don't intimidate me anything you say is an opinion anything i say it's an opinion.

I'm sorry, Iron Maiden, but I'm really just sick and tired of people getting away with these callous and repeated insults while I'm expected to play nice.

Ha! Look who's the hypocrite there. So you don't insult people right? And you're not getting away with it? You...play nice?

*Takes breath and tries to be the bigger person*

Sorry LS, the Rivalry is almost non existant, because in this movie D...(ghh i feel bad even to write his name about this movie...) okay, DINO, doesn't show any of his two real features, scientific genius and willpower. The armour was also a strong element in that way. The scene in which DINO asks medical help adds to this trend. All it remains is..financial genius?Wow, impressive. Although he loose his empire..so...ah yes because he goes insane...INSANE?HE cannot be insane for god's sake!He is almost pure genius and willpower, with a little vanity(but it's more pride excess..heck..). Instead he goes madly around the streets killing people and battling the FF(which, after the incredibles, seems to stay for Family Fun i think) like a crazy crybaby? It is a shame that a very talented actor as Mac Mahon, showing great Doom(ouch) acting possibilities, gets tramped by this..family crap script? And the ending cannot lead to a better Doom, because if they make enough money with this, they will make it like this one; if not, the sequel will not be, so... And putting him in Latveria all of a sudden and even filling him with repairing flashbacks will not wash away all this crap, because in this ORIGIN movie shows that:
he's not a genius, either mistycal or scientific(i espect the Electro powers caged in his statue body will lead to increased synapses yeah?:P c r a p p y.)
he's a weakling, the plan to scatter the 4 is awfully done.
he's got no pride, honour
He goes insane(die fox!)
he's got to rely on powers unsearched and undeserved.
he hate Reed because of his miscalculation, because he stolen his girlfriend and because he thinks i'ts all his fault he lost his financial empire, ah not to mention he's crazi ...this is where DINO get wrong the most for me.
Commander Cobra of G.I.Joe was a better villain that this...

So have you seen it or is this from leaked footage and from the novel? Because just as I feared, he has turned out to be everything you describe
