I cry for the end of an era. Zelda Wii. Brace yourself.

Disclaimer:

I can almost guarantee this is an April Fool's joke. But nice to talk about. I both hate and love the idea.

But on other hand, if you refer to the Beware the Ides of March thread, Matt Casmassina did promise some amazingly cool, super awesome, mind-blowing stuff. This could part of it.

As a fan who places LoZ as the pinnacle of gaming achievement as an art form (although my recent outings with the Metroid/Metroid Prime series are worthy enough for a such a title, too), this idea is both blasphemous and fascinating. Blasphemous, because I've fallen in love with the world LoZ has created. But fascinating, because I understand Nintendo's incredible talent.

I doubt this is real, but you never know...

Wow...

Not sure how I feel about it this initially, if it indeed is real. Obviously we're used to and expect to see Zelda games set in the past, but Link is the Hero of Time, so it does kinda makes sense that his adventures would carry on into the future. Gut feeling is that this is an April Fools joke though.

If it is real, I at least hope that they'll continue to make Zelda games in its classic style, and won't completely switch to this futuristic style.

Definitely. It is an April's Fools joke, but I do imagine the next LoZ to be as dramatic a departure, in a lot of ways. I think Nintendo saying TP to be the last of its kind shouldn't be taken lightly.

Oh, generally speaking, Link isn't necessarily the Hero of Time. The Link from Ocarina of Time is the Hero of Time (and according to who you talk to, is the original Link). All of the Links have different stock epithets. For example, Link from TWW is the Hero of the Winds and Link from TP is the Hero of Twilight.

I find it hilarious that any of you believe this. Yes, a futuristic Zelda, which only proof relies in clearly ametuer designs is totally true. Yes, some website I've never heard of has this mega exclusive instead of IGN or Gamespot. Yeah, totally true, Link will have laser guns and motorcycles. Its not like that Egypt level isnt a total give away. Or the premise.

And Gray Ghost... seriously. Man the **** up.

The three posters (excluding you) who have posted in this thread have all acknoweldged that it's probably an April Fool's joke, but still an interesting concept.

Actually, some of that concept art was taken directly from the early production stages of the most recent Star Wars game.

And Gray Ghost... seriously. Man the **** up.

WTF? What the heck's you're problem?

Even if it weren't a joke I can't say I'm opposed to this. I say so what if they try something new so long as it's fun to play, that is what gaming is all about after all.

Joystiq.com has comfirmed it as an April fool's joke.

They said the designs they showed are a mixture of Star Wars and Final Fantasy designs. That's where the sketches and such come from.

It's a joke, nothing else.

Obvious joke....but seriously? I don't think I would mind it. It would be different, but no one says Zelda would have to "stay" in the future, it would just be another part of the story at a different era.

"Link: Hero of the Future"

looks good. i wouldn't mind seeing a zelda game like that.

Huh, I don't hate the idea.
I bet they thought they'd have every zelda fan ripping their hair out over this joke, haha.
Honestly, if they did this, I wouldn't mind. I've always kinda wanted a more futuristic Zelda. Even a present day one.

My fav idea I've heard, and this was ages ago in an interview. Someone said they thought about placeing Zelda in our time, and then things start to change as your progress and it becomes more and more like Hyrule as your adventure continues. I think that'd be good.

April Fool's joke.

But cool/funny idea, though.

You all are nuts. If this were real, I'd rip my testicles off and fling them at the Queen. This is vomit. :cmad:

I'd want to play this more than any other Zelda game if only it were real. I hope it makes Nintendo go "Hm, you know what...."

The Zelda mechanics and story dedication in a futuristic setting? That'd get a hell yes from me.

It WOULD stop those *****ing about nothing new from the series or Nintendo and that would cause such a change I oculd see old fans of the series who left after N64, coming back and buying a Wii just to see this.

Albeit, it is so fake, why bother?

^Exactly, with every new Zelda game, a new cry baby appears screaming that something needs to change. I have no idea why Zelda would always have to be confined in a "past" setting. With all the "Heroes in Green", "Zeldas" and "Gannons" why couldn't we see something from thousands of years into Hyrules future?

It could still keep the Zelda feel, and be completely new at the same time, plus, there would be no real way to drastically change Link himself. He could pretty much look just like the one concept of him in that video.

Then, with the next Zelda we could do a setting back in the past. Just because it would be in the future wouldn't mean that it would have to lose it's fantasy feel at all. I'm sure Nintendo would even find a way to give ol' Link a fairy.

If it had the right people behind it, I would buy it and it could potentially be better than the previous Zeldas. Zelda meets GTA (with no profanity).

You'd still buy it. Zelda is zelda, no matter the time line. It wouldn't be any worse if Zelda turned into a really goofy looking cartoon with endless amounts of sailing...oh...wait....

Look, I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it... because if Nintendo, in their infinite wisdom actually saw this to be a good idea, then it probably could be, somehow... but to turn it into GTA or even Metroid Prime is just another example of why most fans should steer clear of suggestions. Zelda's charm was born from something other than guns and space travel... why make it like every other game and just slap Link and Zelda in there to give it a different title?

Link as a homey reppin' the Hyrule clique, Zelda as his ghetto mami.

Kipobe is the only person with sense around here. Even Wind Waker was classic Zelda. There wasnt anything fundamentaly different about it. Link turned into a freakin bunny during LttP. The cartoon thing was nothing new. Even sailing wasnt new to the franchise.

Now laser master swords? Guns? Motorcycles? Thats not Zelda. Thats ****ing Star Wars.
