The Amazing Spider-Man I don't know what troubles me more...

how'd he become Octneto???

Well, after the USM clone saga, at the end of it, he was basically like "I thought I just had a connection to my tentacles, but it was the METAL!"

and he makes tentacles out of all the random scrap metal lying around. So apparently he has been able to control metal all along.

...Yeah...

wow just wow

Yeah, but I just pretend it never happened. Just like the star wars prequels never happened, and Indy 4, and the third act of Serenity, or Spectacular Spider-man getting canceled, or the Fantastic Four movies.

All of it. Never happened.

Now I'm going to go sit in my happy place.

Alright I do read comics, but I miss alot of stuff. So who the heck is Octneto? :O

USM Ock was given the powers to control metal. He's basically a low level Magneto. Hence Ockneto.

Oh, thats.....um.....wow....thats really ridiculous. I'm not very far into USM.

I liked the earlier issues of Ultimate Spiderman, but it got stale for me. Ultimate Spiderman and sometimes Ultimates are the only Ultimate comics I liked. But by Ultimates 3 and later issues of USM I hated Ultimate comics.

Anyway, you can take some aspects from it but I don't see the need to push the series fully toward the Ultimate comics.

Why can't we just get a film based off Spectacular Spiderman with a combination of Amazing, Ultimate, movies, and even earlier Spiderman cartoons as influences. Create a whole new universe with all these as influences.

Don't let it discourage you from USM. The first 10 or so volumes of USM are quite good. I started to have problems after the Carnage arc, but even then, there were still a lot of stories I liked.

And yeah, it's got problems, but still I'd take USM GG, Ockneto, and Kraven-cat over Mephisto the homewrecker.

Lieberman, Mephisto & Stiglitz...Divorce lawyers
:hehe:

Oh man. If only it weren't true....

But wait, I forgot, divorce lawyer Mephisto is also on my list of things that never happened. So there, I'm all good. Denying small bits of reality can be nice sometimes.

you must have made a deal with Mephisto to forget that Mephisto erased the marriage

I agree with the OP and honestly, I don't think any of the problems with the Spider-Man franchise started until the third film came out. Spider-Man 1 & 2 were good movies and 2 still stands as one of my personal favorites. In those films, I feel like they got as close to "realism" as Spidey should ever get. The things that Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus could do weren't really all that hard to believe. Also, while they weren't completely serious films, I do think that they had some serious themes and stories.

Spider-Man 3 is where everything went out the window. The story went from being kind of serious to being completely ridiculous and the villains really went into the "unbelievable" territory. If Spider-Man 3 had been a film that at least had some similarities to the two films before it, it would have been fine, but it doesn't even feel like it belongs, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong about the "unbelievable" stuff, either, because I have no problem with that, but if they're going to go that route, they should stay consistent with it. Same goes for any kind of "heightened reality" they choose to go with. If they are truly going to go with that, stick with it. Personally, I think they hit the perfect balance with 1 & 2 and I hope they don't go TOO gritty with this new franchise. Spider-Man isn't Batman. Yes, he has serious themes and stories, but overall, the Spider-Man adventures should be fun and in true comic book form. I'm not suggesting that they go to a completely campy place in the movies, but I don't think they should get all hung up on "alright, this has to be as realistic as possible...just like Batman". Let the character be what he is supposed to be and things will be fine.

I don't know about believability, but I always thought Venom was a bad fit, with the precedent being villains who, like Spidey, were victims of science gone wrong.

The whole gritty comment has had a lot of people edgy, myself included. However, a lot depends on the context the director was speaking in, and what his own view of "gritty" means.

For example, I would call the Indiana Jones movies gritty. But they still have that sense of fun and adventure, and certainly aren't too realistic.

Also, in regards to Venom, I think he could have been a very interesting character, but the simple fact is you need more time. It was pretty much the worst possible situation to try and introduce him into in SM3.

I never wanted Venom in a movie for numerous reasons, the time factor being a big one. That said, I still found him more enjoyable in SM3 than I do in the comics.

i would have prefered more classic villains than Venom...Raimi agreed and Sony and Marvel forced him to put Venom in there

I'd take any classic villain over Venom. Even the Enforcers.

me too. I'd want to see the Sinister Six before Venom

I don't want The Dark Spider, I just want the movie to know when its time to be serious and when its time to be funny. Some of Raimi's films didn't know when to do what. Spiderman 2 was really the only one of the trilogy that seemed to get the mix of seriousness and humor right. Spiderman's a funny guy, there should be humor in it, but the threats of being a super-hero and the troubles in Peter's lives need to be taken seriously. Life is serious, but there are still funny moments. The movie should be the same.

I'm neither for nor against Venom. But I don't want Carnage at all. There are tons of better villains that need to be used FAR more than him. Even Marvel doesn't like him, hence why he was killed off.

Venom can be more interesting if he does more than just chase Spider-man around. As SSM showed us he can be an evil SOB if he actually used the info he had against Spidey.

One of the reasons I got bored with him. Stalking Spidey makes him a one-trick pony.

well hell even the comics side doesnt really know what to do with venom. He's a villain and then a good guy then back to a villain.

Yeah I used to be a huge Venom fan, but the writing for him always sucked. I always preferred how he was portrayed in Spiderman: TAS and SSM than the comics. At least they knew what to do with him.

Venom, if ever done right, could be the biggest threat and the best Spiderman villain. His power + his knowledge of Peter Parker's should've been a huge fodder for stories but it was always a let down.

Plus, Venom is definitely a character that if done right can hold a film as sole villain on his own, which is more than I can say for other classic characters.

But no Carnage.

A straight translation of Ultimate Spider-Man to the screen, maybe give or take a few elements. (Such as the Oz Goblin. I could go either way there.)

Agreed. Ultimate Spidey all the way.
