Fant4stic I think this deserves its own thread...Josh Trank denounces Fantastic Four

His own collaborator and writer for Chronicle said it was KARMA when Trank got fired from Star Wars.
Yep. So Trank may actually turn off those he works with.

It's going to be fun when they're no longer under contract to keep quiet and promote it.
They won't say anything. It took Keira Knightley 10 years to say King Arthur was crap, and that is only after two Oscar nominations. The five main actors involved are all class acts. The opposite of Trank it seems.

Why does one need to be cynical to recongize something is a train wreck? At some point you are fighting the obvious. Especially considering all the rumors, reshoots and Trank's loss of the Star Wars job.

I don't care how optimistic one is. After Trank lost the Star Wars job, the writing was on the wall. That didn't "just happen" for no reason.

Yes, the Star Wars thing looked extremely bad. But again, I was waiting to see what happened with Fan4. And to me, the Fan4 didn't seem to be train wreck at the time. Obviously I was wrong :D.

Eh, I think someone will say something in a few years.

Not everybody was on to at first, I wasn't and plenty of people weren't.

And you did call it. Even I was easier on that trailer than I should have been and I thought people were exaggerating its quality big time.
So many were expecting it to literally look like an actual train wreck, they seemed surprised when it looked like an ordinary film. More then willing to give it a pass at that point.

It seems like it is the same way with the extremely generic and bland first act of this movie. The second half is so bad, people want to give the first half a pass. :funny:

These came out the day news broke Trank was gone from the film.

wow, didn't know they weren't on good terms

Okay maybe not 6 months ago even, but a month ago? Two weeks ago? Come on. At that point people were just hoping they could save face after over a year of denial.

That would be because Trank took all the credit for Chronicle, even though apparently it was the script and editing that made the movie work. Apparently Trank filmed a mess, that others fixed.

I haven't seen it but I am starting to suspect the first act is getting a pass because it wasn't the worst thing ever.

That is what happens when you rip off Nolan. You can gloss over. But I could tell from the first trailer it was bunk. So clearly derivative, so clearly lacking its own identity. So cheap looking.

That argument is derivative and lacking its own identity. Nolan-rip off? Like every trailer with dark colors since 2005? Including the Star Wars trailer quoted in your sig?

You can have your own opinion. I maintain the teaser had nothing wrong with it except for some F4 source material inconsistencies. It showed a seriously chilling dive into science fiction waters without a single mention of a super-villain and interesting visuals and themes. Had the movie been more like that, it could have been unique and interesting.

They actually ripped off Nolan shots. I get that the majority rip of Nolan's trailer structure, but most aren't nearly as blatant. They also have legit, actual quality footage to show in said trailers. Take the Star Wars trailer, which looks more expensive with more quality cinematography then all of FF combined.

My favorite thing is people on Twitter trying to "defend" the movie by saying it wasn't that bad. So you are saying it was bad. Okay. :funny:

The movie doesn't even really have a second or first act, it's almost all set up. All the characterizations and set up were horrible. Like Ben Grimm almost does and says nothing. We meet Johnny wrecking a POS Toyota he built with his own hands. This guy is some sort of great and gifted engineer? He's qualified to build a machine to another dimension?

At least in Batman Begins, he puts the suit on for the first time about an hour in and there's still a whole hour and 20 minutes left of the film to enjoy it.

I'll agree with that. Star Wars trailers have been great and explore a broad spectrum of colors and tones (that tend to fall back on the dark ones). In fact, i wouldnt be surprised if the content in the trailers did cost $110 million alone lol.

Anyway, I was mortified by the original Doom concoction and mollified somewhat by the first teaser. Doesnt really matter though, because what we got was an almost unfinished film with crap work from just about everyone involved. I blame Trank and Fox most of all, but it doesnt seem like the editing team/CGI team/actors were all that dedicated to fixing it either.

I honestly don't know how true it is, but there was real talk of Trank trying to do some of the special effects himself. Again, not sure how true that is.

Also, when it comes to CGI, you get what you pay for. Even if they got a good effects house, they work on the amount of money they are given.

So basically here is the dialogue for the Trank defenders now.

The mandates and limitations he was given by Fox were what caused him to break and act so erratic. In other words...

It wasn't that bad! It was just as bad as getting a tooth pulled, not root canal!

Honest to God but I think Batman Begins was actually better before he put on the suit. It went down hill from there. I guess you can say the same thing about this FF fiasco but it's not like those first 40 minutes were anything to enjoy.

Trank seemed pretty confident and firmed talking about Mara on the KS interview. Both sides are full of **** and just a blame game at this moment.

Thank you! "It wasn't that bad," is not a freaking compliment.

It's like meeting a girl for a blind date and telling her - "I've dated uglier women."
