I did not follow this film at all, but Trank writing this tweet really made me happy. I hope this film bombs so hard and Fox loses lots of money on this film. As a person who hates Fox as a studio this has been glorious to watch go down.

Technically before? They first announced a reboot I believe in 2009. Originally they talked about Silver Surfer spin-off but they basically lost interest in that.

Ah, I forgot about the Silver Surfer film they were thinking about.

Was just thinking about which type of execs were handling this.

Ditto

Fox will blame Trank

Trank will blame Fox

The Blame Game.....

The thing that I found hilarious was that the knives came out and the blame game started before the movie actually released. That's when you know you've got a real disaster.

Something I'm wondering: is this twitter outburst from Trank a sign of terrible judgement? Or is it an indication that he knew his career was already shot, and thus had nothing left to lose?

Guess you could view it either way.

I am not surprised Trank threw Fox under the bus for the negative reviews. It's expected. I was just surprised he did it that early.

Someday Hollywood might make a movie about the making of Fant4stic Four. All the infighting and meltdown about this movie will probably be more entertaining than the FFINO movie itself.

No director has 100% freedom on a blockbuster and rightfully so because it isn't their damn money.

I agree this is something that seems to be lost in this thread. Studios have a right to look over some bodies shoulder and say what are you doing with my 100 of millions of dollars, especially when you are not a proven commidity. We've seen thr damage that can occur from too much studio control, and the damage from not enough studio control.

That's the thing, if he'd said that 6 months from now, no one would care. Alan Taylor just said the same thing when he was being interviewed for Terminator Genisys. Although the egg is on his face because if it wasn't clear before Taylor pretty much proved he's a ****ty director with that debacle, but I remember his comments on Thor TDW and he played the company line up until the end like a freaking professional. That's the difference. If Taylor doesn't get another job, it's because he directed one mediocre film and one outright piece of crap film, not because he's been blacklisted.

Josh Trank will likely be blacklisted.

I just hope it won't be made by FOX as a lame loop hole to keep the F4 rights

I find it interesting that we have got 3 big news stories this year now with studio tampering and director fights and all 3 films looking like crap.

Whedon/ marvel - age of ultron

Alan taylor/ genysis

Trank/ fox f4

If your the studio and your hiring these directors for there visions of these films then step back and let them work. You hire jj abrahams to make a jj abrahams films not fight with him over his vision.

To be fair Trank seems to have lost his mind on the set. Studio may not have anticipated that.

Alan Taylor is just a **** director though. And there's no comparison with AOU and this lol.

Marvel Studios totally jacked up AoU and it only made over a billion dollars. What a piece of crap :o

One could probably argue that they should've meddled with the dark world even more. I wonder how much they meddled with the Russos Winter Soldier? Which by and far should be the guys that Marvel should've kept an extremely close eye on. They were very unproven.

I get the sense that with Marvel they vet directors heavily and only hire someone whose vision matches their own, so that they don't need to worry about clashing ideas or major issues. IIRC James Gunn said he had a lot of freedom on his project, but you can still tell that it has an MCU tone to it.

Actually, Alan Taylor claims he didn't have a lot of studio interference on Genisys. The problem was the marketing for the movie that he didn't agree with.

This movie had a ton of potential. With a better script, CGI, and better action scenes this could have been awesome.

I think he was talking about TDW but confused it for Genysis. Genysis just proves he sucks though.

This erroneous narrative that Whedon complained about Marvel interfering in AOU came from sound bites from a lengthy audio interview with EMPIRE. Listen to the entirety and he does not say that AOU isn't his vision or his movie or that he felt interfered with by the studio. Quite the opposite. He was given an immense amount of freedom in terms of script and production and an enormous budget and a brilliant cast to bring it to life.

He says certain things (Thor and the cave to be specific) weren't working for anyone including him in post production during editing. Whedon discussed how they went back and forth on how to edit it and still keep the storyline of where is Thor and what's he doing semi coherent while not cutting the farm scene. In the end Whedon stated there are about TWO MINUTES more he'd have liked in the final cut - that's it. Hes stated time and time again that AOU is more his movie than Avengers was.

Taylor? He's shown with Genesis that Marvel should have stepped in even sooner. It may be lower tier Marvel but it's not a cringe worthy embarrassment. The studio has an in house cadre of talented producers, writers, stunt & effects people that I believe keep the Marvel films at a certain base level of quality. The Russos have said that Marvel resources and their knowledge of how to make these big films was infinitely valuable.

Marvel is a producer run studio like the old Hollywood days and the as said choose directors they can work with and a share a vision with. There's nothing wrong or less artistic about that unless one believes only directors are artists or that someone like Taylor knows how to make a better comic book movie than Feige does.
