Fant4stic I think this deserves its own thread...Josh Trank denounces Fantastic Four

Did Fox also tell THR that Fox never should have made the movie and the rights would be better off at Marvel, too? :o

(Please read the story. I doubt Fox is happy an alleged member of the crew is taking sides on the rights issue)

It's not the problem. It is a problem.
No matter what is being thrown at you it doesn't give you the reason to treat others poorly.

And definitely treating other people poorly and being unprofessional can hurt a film. It doesn't happen all the time, but it still happens.

FOX is to blame for giving Trank the keys to the car, but there is a lot of blame on Trank for driving it poorly.

Neither is blameless.

No one said otherwise. Movies are stressful. Trank is an a-hole.

Bale blew up on Salvation, it happens. Even Fincher is said to be a jerk to work with. He controlled what Rooney Mara ate.

Fox is to blame for buying a car they weren't ready to drive. They made the decision to go ahead cause they were scared of losing another money-maker to Marvel and now they are trying to spread blame cause they are still afraid to lose the money-maker to Marvel.

So much happens behind the scenes in Hollywood, but you never hear about it. Why? Because they're good at their job unlike Trank.

As long as Trank was the problem then removing Trank should give people hope.

We should be hopeful because Fox made an "ill-conceived' film they had "no vision" for? A movie made for "the wrong reasons"? You think this is something we should get behind, that this sort of behaviour should be rewarded? Really?

(Please read the story.)

It would be wonderful if people would do this before commencing to spouting off the same rhetoric we've been listening to for the last two years.

Yeah, I don't really see Fox coming out on top with that article. It condemns everyone involved with the movie. The alleged crew member even blames himself.

That's the point! Fantastic Four is tarnished, not dead. The MCU is the only tool that can rescue it.

Fox is trying to make a sequel. If no one wants to see Fox make a sequel, they are toast. Fox isn't trying to act like they didn't mess up, they just aren't saying we're sorry.

There are doing the classic, well under different circumstances..if, then.

Did you actually read my post?

I'm saying Fox isn't even fighting about this movie. They are playing about the sequel.

They are trying to make it about the circumstances surrounding this movie that made it bad. "i.e." give me another chance in a new relationship and things will be different. They literally can't admit that they are the problem. The other two FF's happened under their studio, too.

But... if the rights were at Marvel we wouldn't be getting a sequel. How does it make sense to build support for the sequel by saying the original film never should have happened in the first place?

The article doesn't read that way though. It blames Fox for the circumstances. The movie was a cheap rights grab, and the article gets that point across very well.

If Fox is to blame for the circumstances, then they how can they be trusted with a sequel?

I don't think that's the point. Fox isn't trying to make themselves the good guy.

They just want fans to believe they can fix it with a sequel.

"We got rid of Trank. Now look what (probably Singer) can do." There was no reason to float that Singer/X-men rumor a month before release.

The MOS sequel being Batman-centric was floated after MOS was released.

As long as Trank was the problem then removing Trank should give people hope. Trank's movie..Trank's tone...Trank's inexperience.
Comparing MOS's reception to FF's is absolute ********.

Let’s All Try to Guess Which Sassy Fantastic Four Actor Sassed Josh Trank in an Email

http://www.vulture.com/2015/08/even-more-fantastic-four-drama-leaks.html

According to The Hollywood Reporter, before Josh Trank bragged about having a "fantastic version" we'll probably never see in a since-deleted tweet, the director sent an email to members of the cast and crew days before the film's release, calling the final product "better than 99 percent of the comic-book movies ever made." Here's how one star reportedly replied: "I don't think so." While we can't be sure which "dickish" star served that expert diss, it appears he or she has every right to be angry.

Seems to hint at Teller, since he was called a dick several times.

Right? And I wanted a good first film not a "maybe we'll do better this time" sequel.

What are their options?

Why do you think they floated Singer already? Is he the best pic for FF? Has he ever made a sci-fi movie or a happy/family centric movie?

Heck no. They are just playing PR games.

That isn't what I'm comparing.

I'm saying the decision about what kind of story to tell came after MOS was released.

Fox was telling what kind of movie and who was probably directing the sequel before the movie ever came out. They had already moved on from talking about Trank's movie.

The WB waited to tell about their JL continuity.

It reads that way cause it's confining the story to just this movie. Fox has messed up 3 times. Two of them without Trank. Fox is involved in all three.

So making the story about Trank and this movie is deflecting. This isn't a case of we messed up this time cause we rushed. Fox has no idea what to do in general.

Okay, fair enough.

This is a good point actually.

A better article would put more focus on the fact that Fox hasn't ever had any sort vision or passion for this property. It's been this way for over a decade, and it led to this mess.

Fox is ultimately responsible for hiring Trank in the first place. However, only Trank is responsible for his own behavior.

Alan Taylor turned out to be a pretty crappy director, and if Thor TDW wasn't enough of a hint, Terminator Genisys proved it.

Both Trank and Taylor were promising but unproven commodities. Both were failures. The difference is Taylor has only conducted himself in a professional manner. He too was locked out of the editing room, but took his lumps like an adult and moved on.

I'm guessing Teller or Mara. I wonder if MBJ cuts off his ties to Trank after this ? He is after all known as Tranks BFF

I can't imagine he sent the email to Mara though. I thought he shunned her throughout the whole movie and treated her like dirt. It would more likely be someone like Teller or MBJ, whom Trank thought were his buddies.

They don't need to cut ties. Trank's career is effectively over.

I wonder what he's going to do with his life now. He's become a complete laughing stock. Will he even be able to get any kind of job even not in directing when people find out what he was like with all his antics? He might end up a homeless hobo who clothes himself in tin foil and wraps himself in a green cape to keep warm. :o

I might have felt a little sorry for Trank if it weren't for that tweet.

Thank you Fox and Josh Trank for making this movie. I have yet to see it but the behind the scenes drama has been very entertaining so far :hehe:

I might have felt a little sorry for Trank if it weren't for that tweet.

I tend to side with the filmmaker when this kind of thing happens but Trank seems like he is such a dick, and apparently out of touch with reality (his email about the movie being better than 99% of comic book films is just priceless).
