Infinity War "I Will Bathe The Starways In Your Blood!" The Thanos / Josh Brolin Thread - Part 1

The dude loves sitting down. The Black Order better be carrying around inflatable chairs and bean bags when on the move just in case the big guy wants to take a break.

Thanos the MCU version of Snorlax. Lol.

Marvel has no real reason to hide a Mistress Death character. Comics fans would hardly be shocked by her inclusion, and the general audience would have absolutely no idea who she is without context so it wouldn't matter either way.
It's not about hiding the character, it's about keeping that plot point under wraps. Similar to what happened in Civil War with the tape of Bucky killing Tony's parents or the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3. Nobody had any idea that was coming. And there will probably be MANY of those types of revelations in Infinity War that Marvel wants to keep under wraps. Selling Thanos as this big, bad, tyrannical warlord in the marketing and then revealing that he's actually a philosophical and lovesick character in the actual film is exactly the type of thing Marvel would do.

They would definitely have a reason to hide Hela on the other hand, considering how Ragnarok ended and the big question of whether we'll ever see Hela/Blanchett in the MCU again.
I'm not saying Hela can't take on the role, I just seriously doubt they're going to drop that aspect of the storyline completely. I mean, Civil War was very different than the comics, but they still found a way to maintain the registration act in some form as the element that drives the plot.

I still think that trying to introduce Mistress Death this late in the game would be a mistake considering they have so much else to do and so many characters to juggle already in IW, and she isn't exactly an easy character to explain in the first place. They've had plenty of time to establish such a character (either GotG movie, Doctor Strange, Ragnarok) but they haven't, and we've had no news of any casting either. If they're going for a 'love interest' for Thanos (which I believe they are), I maintain that Hela makes much more sense in the MCU.
I think now would be the ONLY time to introduce her. She doesn't need to be set up, because the mysteriousness of her is part of the intrigue. I'm not against Hela at all. In fact, when I heard Hela was the main Ragnarok villain I had the same thought everyone else did. But the more I thought about it, I'd really miss the idea of Thanos being in love with someone as cold, mysterious and creepy as Mistress Death. Hela is a bit on the lively side, but I trust Marvel either way.

They've got a Thanos bust on display at CCXP, but it's from GOTG.

This is awesome. Love the look of the helmet.

Eros is way to problematic especially for the current climate

Yeah, I think the chances of him ever appearing in a movie are slim. He's just really, *really* unfortunate in nature. There's no way to spin "magic date rape powers" as something suitable for a hero, especially a hero who is explicitly played up as a ladies man hedonist.

I think it's all the best that he doesn't appear. Eros has always been one of those characters that, imo, shouldn't even really exist in the first place because he hasn't ever truly added anything essential to any storyline in addition to also having the "magic date rape powers" which is just all wrong in every way imaginable.

I might not have seen it in IMAX, but Thanos looked AMAZING on the bigscreen. You could definitely make out all the details.

That face you pull when someone calls you Darkseid.

:funny:

What's funny is that I've seen that happen more often than not with casual fans and I'm always thinking "Thanos is so much better than Darkseid will ever be...how could you make such an egregious mistake?"

Darkseid will never get arrested by the police.......

Avengers: Infinity War*directors Joe and Anthony Russo were recently interviewed by Sina Weibo. The Chinese microblogging website asked which characters they're most excited for fans to see. Joe Russo offered up the Mad Titan himself.

"Okay, I'm going to start with Thanos," Russo says. "I'm most excited for the audience to learn about him. I think he's a very interesting and complex villain. That's why I like him. That's why I'm excited for the audience to learn about him. I think his motivations, albeit psychotic, are compelling. And I think that in a lot of ways this is his movie, so it's going to be very interesting to see how people respond to Thanos in the film."

Pretty awesome! A couple of us called this ahead of time, and Feige touched on it, but it's nice to see it reinforced again.

Not surprising that they're saying IW will be Thanos' movie considering up until now he's been that mysterious final boss figure lurking in the background that we haven't seen much of. It's only right that they show general audiences what his motivations are and why he's doing what he's doing.

That being said, Thanos is already incredibly popular but after this movie is released his popularity is going to be at an insane level. I can only imagine how crazy it's going to be once people finally get this film.

And they have 2 films to fully develop him. Most of the heroes have already been developed in other films so there should be plenty of time for Thanos to be done justice.

Even though Thanos is my favorite comic book character, I'm glad that they took the approach they did by showing him a minimal amount in building up to Infinity War. I've seen a lot of people complain he's been underdeveloped and how he doesn't really seem like a real threat since all he does is "sit around" but in hindsight it was a perfect approach because now we get to see his characterization expanded on in the perfect setting. Doing so anywhere else would've been trying to cram too much into one particular film.

But, this way, like you said, with all of the heroes being developed and having had the chance to have their various moments to shine, Thanos can be front & center and be fully built upon in the way that many want.

If I had to rationalize it for myself, personally, I'd say my anticipation levels for finally seeing Thanos in action are the same as when I'm playing a game I love & I finally reach the final boss.

Darkseid will also never be able to say that he was literally God for a day. :sly:

THE God? No. A god? Yes. Doesn’t need a fancy glove for it either.

I do really hope that Thanos is basically the main character of this movie though.

That's irrelevant, though. The point is that Thanos had the entire universe at his fingertips, half of which he destroyed. Imo, far more impressive than anything Darkseid has done or ever will do.

In a new interview, co-director Joe Russo has shared his thoughts on the Mad Titan's role in the movie and makes some pretty bold claims about what we should expect when he battles Earth's Mightiest Heroes later this year.

"Darth Vader was the pre-eminent villain of my childhood, and we're hoping to make a Darth Vader for a new generation,".Russo says.."We're hoping he has that complexity to him, and that he strikes fear into the heart of the audience, but at the same time they go on a journey with him. Frankly, Avengers 3 is his movie.".So, it sounds like Thanos will receive a significant amount of screentime!

As for the special effects being used to bring the character to life on the big screen, Russo adds:."It's very important to us that Thanos has a level of photorealism that makes that audience believe him.".

While Thanos will look real, he'll be doing some pretty spectacular things, including blowing up a moon (that scene was in the Comic-Con trailer but not the version released online. It turns out that barely scratches the surface.."That's one of many things Thanos does in this film. He's an incredible threat!"
