Only people who can write Thanos are Starlin and Giffen.

Thanos even had his own on going series leading up to Annihilation where he was basically an anti-hero. He's definitely one of the more complex villains in comics. It seems the film hints at him being more than just a big evil overlords with his line about balancing the universe.
