Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Iain de Caestecker is Leo Fitz

Awesome character and same age as me, so it's cool to have a character I can relate to. While I relate to tons of characters, always find that I relate more to those around my age for some reason. Just a sense of commonality or something.

Lol... That was hilarious. Its also his second monkey reference. In ep. 2, when they arrive in Peru, he comments on wanting a cappuchin monkey. Running gag, or foreshadowing something more?

Good to see Fitz in action last episode, and looks like he'll be getting some more limelight in the next.

It has to be foreshadowing. You don't talk about a monkey in the second (and third) episode and then fail to produce said primate. And Iain is definitely on board with the monkey business. :funny:

Joe Quesada and Ian Mounts got de Caestecker his monkey for his birthday today:

Thought I'd bring a little life to this thread. With Fitz's near death experience what do you guys think has happened to him and how will affect him moving forward? Is he in a coma? Will he be handicapped now due to a loss of motor skills? I hope his intelligence is intact. Maybe he'll be wheel chair bound or on some hi tech chair? Whatever he is I hope he'll be same ole Fitz in the end and back on the team before long.

I do too, for me he's the heart and soul of the team.

Put me down as another person hoping his intellect remains intact. Doing otherwise would be pointless cruelty; might as well just kill him.

Maybe he has a time conflict at seasons start?

There's no way he'll be the "same ole Fitz." If he is, I think it's lazy writing.

I wouldn't believe him going through that near death, potential (probably) loss of motor skills (permanent or temporary with immense physical therapy), possible loss of brain function and the likely rejection of love from Simmons (strong feelings for him, just not THOSE feelings) and not coming out with a lot of issues.

He went through the grand slam of intense trauma: physical (loss of motor skills), mental (possible loss of brain function), emotional (likely rejection from the woman he loves) and spiritual (near death experience).

I think he can come back, still be the brainiac we know and love. But I don't think he will be that happy, bubbly, goofy, naive kid he was before. I think he'll be more like a combination of the Fitz we saw in a few episodes this season, including Beginning of the End, F.Z.Z.T and The Hub. He'll be more narcissistic, hardened and even a little resentful. But he can still have those moments of boyish charm, as rare as they'll be.

Does that make sense?

I can't bear the thought of Fitz changing for the worse character-wise in the aftermath of his near death. I mean, in a good way, in that it might be a fantastic character arc for de Caestecker to play out, but it will hurt watching him go through it.

If you would've told me at the beginning of this season that Fitz and Simmons would be my absolute number 1 faves on this show, I'd have laughed in your faces. de Caestecker is great in the role, and he's gotten better as the season's given him more material to work with. His relationship with Jemma is fantastic; they're like the Xander/Willow of this show.

I'm kind of thinking they're going to up the angst between him and Jemma next season if he's off in any way from his injuries. He'll probably wish Jemma had just saved herself and never rescued him, that he would've been better off dead.

Then Coulson will give him a good talking to.

Fitz definitely grew to be one of my favorite characters this season. If his motor skills are disabled I could see him leading the team from their shiny new home base, The Playground.

Yes, it does makes sense and I wouldn't be against it if they went that way. But I think Fitz is stronger than we give him credit for, he may have some tough times ahead, but I think he can pull through, maybe in a way we don't expect.

Was wondering today if it would be wards way back in. Presuming fitz is brain dammaged, ward goes on the hunt to find some miracle cure. Up until ward jettisoned fitzsimons and in last nights episode, fitz was literally the only person to have some belief in him, the rest, skye, coulson, may even raina showed him contempt, deservedly and all but if an occasional pat on the head from garrett meant something to him then in a world with out garrett, fitz's unconditional belief at their last encounter may be a weight. Or it may be justification in his head to shoot him like the dog.

I hope you're right. I hope he does... In time. I want to see an arc with him struggling badly, only to come out as one of the strongest, toughest members of the team, mentally at least. I'm pulling for him, like a wounded puppy.

That's what I'm hoping for. I don't want him going bad out of jealousy.

About Ward:
I'm expecting a season of him finding himself, occasionally helping out occasionally hiding things. A bit like Irina Derevko from Alias or Red in The Blacklist

I'd love for Fitz to be brain damaged to the point where he is child-like as he tries to fight back to the man he was. Almost like Joss did with River on Firefly. He's a character to pity but shows flashes of his old self.

Monkey transplant.

All I know is his last scene was utterly heartbreaking and so very, very sad... :(

I can see him taking on a Prof X style role, wheelchair bound but still a very useful member of the team from the Playground
