IESB: Welling out of the running for JLA Superman

Luda aint a bad actor or rapper. :o

Well the last thing the craz.....I mean the psyc.....I.....er....mean the CD...............girl said was that she got "word" last Wednesday Oct 3rd that they (WB) would make an "announcement" Friday Oct 5th she says that they could have possibly postponed it for this Friday Oct 12, then she says it may be on Thanksgiving day. She made this post on October 7th BTW. The last we heard from Robert he had said that WB was pissed that he was leaking out information about JL he thinks they are referring to the script leaks and what characters will be in the movie. Please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't some of the recent articles saying that the strike is worse or more hectic than imagined, if that's the case I would think the "silence" is due to that. You never know maybe WB is having second thoughts. (fat chance I know)

Actually, if WB is pissed at Sanchez's leaks, then it has nothing to do with the script and characters. That stuff was leaked to (sister company) EW and published in their magazine (which has millions of subscribers). So they have no reason to be mad at the guy who runs IESB when the majority of the general public who either subscribe to EW or read it at the newsstands would have read about it in the magazine.

The biggest scoop Sanchez had re: Justice League was Tom Welling as Superman. He even went on national television and announced it. If Warner is angry about a leak, it would have to be that. It would make sense that WB wants to put the kibosh on that info since the casting of Supes, for all intents and purposes, is going to make or break the movie for the studio.

Since there is going to be a JLA movie and [Superman Returns'] Brandon Routh and [Batman Begins'] Christian Bale are not going to be in it, is there any chance that Tom Welling and the rest of the gang from Smallville's own Justice League could be featured in the roles? — cooper2000
Gough: That, unfortunately, isn't how Hollywood works. You will see a brand-spanking-new group of actors donning the tights for that film. I heard it is under the direction of George (Mad Max) Miller, so I am personally very excited to see it.

Great find.

Yep, but maybe he is just trying throw everyone off but I seem to remember him getting this way around the same time Returns was being made and how he kept stating Welling was not going to be Superman then either.

Yawn is that all ya got how old is that interview I mean when was it done not what issue of TV guide it was put in

Apperntly it was posted today on TV Guides website so it had to be done very very very very recently.

it goes without question I support welling but I'm to the point where I will take any casting announcement welling in or out

the silence is killing the buzz this film had going for it.

Pssst? He said syndicated television, not overall viewership.

Why even make the statement then?

Its like saying "I just ****ed the hottest chick in the biker bar".

Saying shes the hottest chick means nothing if shes from there; same way "Good for syndication" is saying "its nothing special".

Noone deneying Smallville makes w.b. money; we're deneying Wellings "supposed" popularity.

Posted this in another thread a few weeks ago.Actor Justin Tully tested for an unspecified role in JL. I speculated that it could be for The Flash...he certainly looks the part.

Welling's popularity falls in with Routh they both have a small following but at the end of the day no one is really going to care or not if they are or are not cast as Superman. Just as long as the actor does a good job.

Theres one difference though; Routh has already played Superman. People who like him liked his supes. There are some who didnt; but many seem to dislike because he wasnt Welling who they feel would make a great Superman. The thing with us doubterz is hes never been sueprman; why take a good one out and put a potentailly bad one?

if it (supermas role) aint broken, dont fix it (by recasting routh with welling)

it is broke, so it needs to be fixed. Routh is has no populatrity, he was ok at best and is tainted with singers faliure all over him.

Nice try.

I used to stats to back up Smallvilles lack of popularity.

Routh has no popularity? Please; even on these boards he is more popular than anybody else:

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=240333&highlight=rate

"Was Brandon Routh a great casting choice?"

No: 56 votes (includes Thunder Emporer, Agent Pat, and The Incredible Hulk)
Yes: 320

http://forums.superherohype.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=17136

Rouths Superman-"excellent": 197 votes
Rouths Superman-"poor": 18 votes (includes TIH & TE)
Routh's Clark-"excellent": 184 votes
Rouths Clark-"poor": 19 votes (includes TIH & TE)
Rouths Kal-el -"excellent": 141 votes
Routh's Kal-el-"poor": 15 votes (includes TIH)

And dont get started on critics. The vast majority of critics liked his performance.

"Ok at best" doesnt quite fit someone who is getting 10x the "great's" that he is "poor's"; though that saying DOES fit another ocnversation we just had...

That of Smallvilles rating...:o :word:

The numbers seem to show a pattern of you guys hating on Routh while others praise him...Excel thinks your sense that everybody doesnt like him is more personal bias then actual fact; base on the numbers above, of course...;)

I like Routh and all, but if you post a poll asking if Routh was good as Superman in the Superman Returns forum, you can pretty much guess the outcome.....

Wow man you really got your stuff together Excel. Best debater i've seen on here. I wouldn't be able to endure this ignorance some of these fanboys have here. Or should i say disillusioned fanboys?

PS: Routh for the win!

Sorry too busy looking at Excel's avatar to read his post. ;)

I love that Excel is a master debater because he dredged up two polls from a Superman Returns forum on SHH.

Where's Pat's MSN, AOL and EW polls that favor Welling over BJ? Not to mention major international publications and mainstream websites (like EW, MTV, Empire, Wizard and others) who have mentioned Tom Welling on their Superman wish lists at one time or another? Not to mention articles in Variety that discuss Smallville's enduring popularity and cash cow status at Warner.

Pat, if you see this, you might want to bring your dead horse .gif while you're at it.

It's one thing to make the argument that fans like Welling more than Routh. That's fine. But you can't say "Routh has no popularity" and expect to be taken seriously.
