Mixed reviews don't constitute a flop; ASM 2 still made money. A flop is a movie like Jonah Hex, which didn't even make its budget back domestically. I can't imagine Spidey's popularity succumbing to even the worst writing in a movie. People will still go and see it because it's Spider-man in the title.

ASM2 isn't a bomb, but it didn't do good or as expected. It pretty much limped along with one good leg (overseas market). It will make money but barely. It was a mediocre success box office and critically.

As long as Sony can make money, why stop? So what if it didn't quite live up to expectations; profit is still why studios start a project. There is no reason for Sony to stop unless Spidey starts costing more than the franchise is making.

They got profit. The budget was around $200 mil and the promotion was another $180 or so. The movie made $700 mil at the BO, and now the DVDs and Blurays are going to bring in more money. We can debate creative differences, but the bottom line is green.

It's not just whether something is profitable or not, it's whether you are getting as much as you can for the time and resources invested. Sony's not in a position where they can ignore profit margins.

Because the gross is declining rapidly with each installment. It might not be losing money now, but unless they reverse course these films soon will be.

It would depend on several things... It could underperform but the reviews could be decent in which case we will get TASM3, it could be mixed received and be profitable and we will get a TASM3, but if it flops bad and ain't well received then that may effect TASM3 but at the same time it that doesn't technically effect TASM3 because this is a totally different thing that likely won't involve spider-man the most marketable and loved character

But it will have be dreadful to hurt TASM3

Yeah, but even if a movie does have spiderman they still won't see it if they bastardize the sinister six. I fact fans if the franchise will lose faith and trust in the series like they are doing now in this movie.

After everything that had happened with Sony they have to make this new franchise great otherwise they'll lose more and more of their share. It was a huge stupid move to mess around with 2 of Marc webb's movies. Those movies could've helped Sony with their profit but instead they just kept sucking around. I'm just confused. Do they even want to keep the rights? Why pull this ******** twice?

I wouldn't call it rapidly, on the contrary I think it's declining slowly.

Amazing Spider-Man brought in $750 million, roughly

So a $50 mil decline.

If that rate continues then it'll be another six movies to reach flop level, with conservative budgeting (that's using around $400 million gross as flop level)
