[flaming cars hurling at the X-men]

Beast: Storm, would you be so kind as to do something about these dealy flaming projectiles heading for us?

Storm: [shakes] Magneto and his displays of power. Think that's spectacular? Watch this...

I'd say that a giant tidal wave and violent winds would be just what the doctor ordered against a flying cars attack, in the absense of Cyclops expertly blasting them out of the air like a game of extreme shot-put.

I’m not entirely convinced a tidal wave or high winds could stop an assult by burning cars without being a danger to the entire island and everyone on it. To create a sufficient flash flood would need a lot of high/deep water, to create a wind of sufficient strength would mean a hurricane. To generate these quickly and in such a concentrated way to push back burning cars flung from a great height is questionable. Torrential rain might have doused the fires at least, but Storm quite visibly drained the atmosphere of moisture in the flashflood scene (though it was cut!). Cyclops is the only one who could have targeted those cars precisely (or Havok or Polaris if they’d been in the movies).

Yeah.....so where was Cyclops again?

(I still haven't forgiven them for apparently killing him off.)

I´ve noticed you mention Wolverine in almost everything you post.
You must really love the guy! Why don´t you join us on the Logan thread? Then maybe you can give us some more of your brilliant insight on the "obnoxious runt". :whatever:

I like comicverse Wolvie. I've stated several times he cracks my top 5 fav X-Men. Movieverse Logan was, not only a joke, but he stole traits from other characters. The later is not 'insight', it's fact. :whatever:

Trust me, if I wanted to *insult* movieverse Wolvie, I'd go for better than 'obnoxious runt'. Hell, if anything it was a term of endearment slash reference at his comic book persona.

The last few cracks were just a comment on Logan's exposure when it comes to *saving the day* in X3. Apparently, Fox felt the X-Men can't do jacks*** without him. That's what we're poking fun at. :whatever:

Surprisingly enough, I'm with X-Maniac on this one.

Flooding the island??? Would've been great as a 'if I go down, you go down with me' move, but otherwise, it's tactical suicide... :D

I may not like it, but Storm's powers other than lightning and wind gusts just aren't that useful in a large scale battle once both armies have met in battle...

You have to forgive her, her knowledge in terms of the comic book mythologies is very one-sided. Even though there's nothing wrong with liking the character of Logan, it's extremely wrong and questionable to denounce the other X-Men and say Logan is Jean's true love, Cyclops is a boring character and isn't important to the X-Men, or that Wolverine doesn't respect Cyclops enough to do what he's told.

He may not like Cyclops at all, hell, we all know that they both really detest the very core of each other. However, there is a mutual respect between the two and they'll do what's best for the team. Anyone who is a comic book fan of the X-Men knows this, understands this, and accepts this as being part of the comic book mythos.

Logan babe, on the other hand, will tell you that Logan more important than Cyclops or any other X-Men. So don't let what she says to you upset you in any way.

As i said earlier i still dont know why they had Collosus taking cover from the cars, they could have had Bobby and Piotr working together on that, Piotr catching them and Bobby putting out the flames, THEN Magneto could have sent Pyro and Juggernaut to face Iceman and Collosus.

And what about Storm using the strong winds she used against Toad in the first movie to at least try and stop the cars.

You’d need Storm to generate a hell of an upwards wind to stop a car thrown from a great height. This isn’t a viable suggestion.

I don't know if this was brought up, but Rotten Tomatoes are having their 8th annual Golden Tomatoe Awards - TLS came last (out of 50 wide releases) This is what they had to say:

Critical Consensus

Director Brett Ratner has replaced the heart and emotion (and character development) of the previous X-Men films with more action and explosions. The film should still provide ample entertainment, but viewers may truly wish this to be the Last Stand.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/features/rtawards/movie_2006.php?r=50&mid=1156562&type=w

The movie wasn't even mentioned in the Action Top 10, and the "users tometometer" had dropped to 69% (it was 74% before the DVD came out) - X2 has 93% in case you are wondering.

PFFFT!!! That's funny. Character development in the X-films. Hahahaa... You know, had the first two films actually had the X-men in them, then maybe just maybe the third one would have too.

Instead we get worse washed out unrecognizable power tools with no soul. Who saw that one coming? :raises hand proudly: Especially after the fiasco of X2.

RT isn't far off from any other movie critic. They're all still sour that TLS made as much money as it did.

The only thing that can rescue this franchise is Ages of Apocalypse. Common Bishop, your our only hope. Use the love of your friends to travel back in time to make the terribleness of all three of these POS's go away.

A. Why are you jumping all over Loganbabe for liking another character better? :whatever: You made the same ridiculous and untrue accusations about me, and you've even apologized for it. There's no reason for you to start picking on someone else. And no, your supposed idea of what her knowledge of the comic books are is not an excuse for doing so.

B. Characters are fair game. It is actually possible for people to not like Cyclops. Wolverine takes a beating from this whole group on a fairly regular basis. Doesn't mean bashing the other characters is off-limits.

Storm could most likely deflect the cars with wind. They don't have to be straight-line winds, as Storm is shown in all three movies as being able to create vortices in varying degrees with accuracy. In X-Men, she is shown creating a wind driven blizzard directed specifically at Sabretooth without damaging the vehicle next to him, which houses Rogue and Wolverine. Later, in the Statue of Liberty, she quickly summons a whirlwind to her specific location capable of lifting objects to her liking. In X2, she creates large scale tornadoes and again directs them as she sees fit. Moreover, in The Last Stand she is shown creating a funnel cloud from which she personally descends... When in doubt, blame it on the budget.

I'm still not convinced that magnetically-propelled burning cars raining down from a great height could be swooshed back by a wind. It would need to be a helluva wind and generated very quickly at exceptional velocity. I don't buy it. Regardless of whatever wind she previously generated, it doesn't fit this particular scenario at all.

I saw the first episode of the Flash series, and remebered X3's Callisto and end thinking the poor use they did of her powers in the film, and then thought about the powers of the other members of the brotherhood, so what can I say:

Multiple man: POOR
Juggernaut: POOR
Arclight: POOR
Psylocke: POOR

How sad that Fox used so many characters in the films and end with such a poor way of use their powers....

Besides, the running time of the episode was the same as X3!!
A tv episode had the same lenght than a third film of such a big franchise as X-men. Even more sad.

Ah but the difference is no one is bashing Logan. People are bashing the overexposure the character received. For anyone to say "Cyclops isn't important to the X-Men" or that "Logan doesn't respect Scott, and that Logan and Jean are true love" then I believe it's fair game to question their knowledge and possibly educate them.

Logan babe, on the other hand, doesn't have that knowledge in terms of the comic books and how important they are in terms of the source material. I'm not saying she's stupid or worthless, but what I am saying is her view is very bias and she should pick up some comics, read them, and educate herself on the characters.

I don't mind if she loves Logan, but there's more to the X-Men than Logan. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Storm, but I'm not going to denounce her importance to the team because of my love for Cyclops, Kitty, Beast, Angel, Colossus, Gambit, Psylocke, Iceman, Rogue, Forge, Cable, and Bishop.

Bah. Not that I'll ever pick fights with LoganBabe or troll in the Wolvie thread, but I'm with LastSunrise on this one.

Anyone being offended at Logan refered to as an 'obnoxious runt' is just too funny. It would be like Cyke fans throwing a fit were Cyke to be referred to as an 'emotionally stunted stiff'.

Both 'insults' are essentially facts written in the very fabric of the marvelverse. You take the good with the bad. Geez.

Yeah, but the thing is that the Cyke bashing has already been done in the movieverse. :woot:

Arguably to elevate Logan, too. :woot:

And you'd have to define 'bashing'. I don't recall anyone saying Logan's a moron, coward, wretch, quitter or anything... All we're saying is he's not only chewing scenery, but also stealing other character's personalities and function.

Dear God, exactly what qualifies as character development in the first two flicks??? :D

Magneto: Mutants rock the hardest. The more I get pissed, the more I mean it. Refer to the genocide thingy from X2.

Xavier: I am wisdom and sainthood incarnate and yet get owned everytime I might help turn the tide. :D

Cyclops: I am a tool - an ineffective one at that - and hopelessly in love.

Storm: I throw random fits, drool over some religious nutjob and get to do something while tool #1 is MIA.

Jean: I have two guys lusting after me, jerk them around for a while and get a power upgrade. Oh, I get to be a saint, too.

Logan: For some reason, I let go of my obsession with my past by hanging out with people for like a week. Oh, and I'm really responsive to firecrotchs.

:woot: :woot: :woot:

BEST POST EVER! :hyper:

^ Comic book guy says: Best mock interpretation of a modern comic book fanboy ever!

Somehow missed that one...

Thank you. *bows* :D

Still, it's just too easy, I mean, Colossus' entire story arc is to throw around everyone's - well, some people - favorite obnoxious runt around. :D

couldn't be closed one of this two "don't like the movie" threads? sometimes one don't know where said one thing or another.

Thats good news. As long as X3's score keeps dropping, it will be wonderrful news

If Storm has the power to create tornados(X2) I doubt she would have any trouble creating wind that is powerful enough to blow a few cars away.

Of course it fits this particular scenario, and of course it would need to be a helluva wind generated very quickly at exceptional velocity. Just as it would need to be a helluva lot of rain to form the blue compact water column that rivals most waterfalls that serves as Storm's entirely unnatural "downpour/flashflood"... and you loved that. It's the same scenario that's been present since the character's inception; Storm quickly generating extreme weather in order to alleviate herself and her fellow teammates of a nearby threat. There's no difference between Storm's sudden narrowly focused and ridiculously condensed "rain," with the strength of a tidal wave as opposed to a sudden narrowly focused and ridiculously condensed vortex with the strength of an F3/F4 tornado (which could sufficiently relocate a house, let alone a car).

It's not as though Storm's powers are logical anyway. The woman's pupil's fade away, while electricity and lightning pour out of her eyes, hair, and fingertips, all the while maintaining her own personal jetstream to ride on.

This is not to say that the movie should have included such a scene or that it suffers because of a lack of one... but it is certainly possible within the confines of the character and her powers.
