I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Besides the date reshuffle, if clayface is actually part of Reeves' sequel, I'd be pretty annoyed that the first live action iteration of clayface is coming out a few weeks before. I get that Gunn got a great pitch, but really, the third major movie in the dcu is clayface, shouldn't you be working on wonder woman.

Very frustrating, not going to lie. All this is going to do is create more negative rumors about the movie potentially being pushed back.

I could have sworn that there is a video of Reeves saying that the script is pretty much done and that DC is excited about it, but we have Gunn saying that he hasn’t even received the first draft yet. 😭

It doesn’t make any sense to me especially after the failure of The Joker 2. Also, Gunn says the movie is part of the DCU.

Reeves said he's been sharing portions of the script with the studio as he was writing. If memory serves Reeves said during the (hilarious) plagiarism suit that the first drafts he submits are heavily polished and basically shooting drafts, for what it's worth.

I find it pretty hard to believe that Clayface is in both, tbh. Unless there is substantially less communication between the two parties than they've indicated.
If Reeves is producing this, I would assume it's the same Clayface. What they are labeling DCU seems to be everything being made by the studio.

As little interest as I have in the DCU this is what has sounded appealing about it so far. There is absolutely zero appeal to me in a DC slate that's "yeah here's all the JL members building up to the big crossover JL movie!!", what is appealing is Gunn seemingly just rolling with ultra specific characters that - in some cases such as Clayface - are clearly only happening because someone cool and talented wanted to make them. Will it be a success? Probably not financially, I really don't see a Clayface movie being a hit but personally that means less than nothing to me - getting a few DC movies that basically no other exec would go for is a total win.

Fan reaction doesn't really matter to me because it's always overblown. But the reality is, setting up a competing batman is a problem. I don't think us fans are being realistic when we say there isn't or somehow batman can sustain two versions (see the box office success of the flash... Or lack thereof). Especially when Snyder fans are still begging for the pipe dream of more Snyder related content and bash anything related to Gunn.

Truthly, this becomes less of a problem if Reeves Batman becomes part of the DCU.

i never wanted to be that guy, but I'm sorry another delay is just ridiculous. Matt for the love of god you are such a talented director, stop leading screenwriting part of the job. I hope this is not getting delayed man

Nope. DCU is just the DCU. DC Studios is everything made by the studio.

And it has been mentioned in the past that Matt Reeves would collaborate on DCU projects, too.

For the record: I suspect this is moving again (though not necessarily, it could start shooting in six months and make its release - plenty of time) and that such a big gap between movies is probably (financially, not creatively, so I don't actually care that much) not beneficial. The Penguin being a monster hit likely helps with that.

It is what it is.

yeah that's why i smell something fishy. Matt said the script is coming along well to the finish line, then that it's completed and that DC Studios have been loving what he has been working on

The Penguin was not a monster hit.

Based on previous experiences… Mentally, I’m already in March 2027.

The December date Dune is currently holding would soften the blow a bit but fully prepared for March.

I'll be pretty bummed out if its a giant delay but a couple months to March would barely register to me at this point.

Literally just objectively wrong

Like I'm not even gonna try to argue. This is just incorrect lmao
Not necessarily. I haven't seen the numbers outside of the Samba ones for the first week, which were good, but not great. That said, it seemed to stay in the zeitgeist it's whole run, got a ton of praise, and is now getting award nominations.

That December 2026 date Dune is currently holding is only two months later and wouldn’t be so bad. Might actually work quite nicely with the winter setting. But there’s also been rumours Spider-Man might move to December and if that’s the case, I can’t see anything other than March for Batman.
