I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Dude's got beef with Gunn since he got snubbed an invitation to the trailer premiere.

He's also a major life loser and the reliability of his reporting is hardly worth putting up with his bad vibes.

Is he keeping these ‘’scoops’’ behind a paywall? He knows Gunn will make him look like a fool otherwise, especially on twitter.

Anyone know what Sneider said more precisely?
He was mostly just trying to guess what was up with the multiple Batmen, and was in his "pissed of mode" tonight , criticizing the latest press event, and saying that after he's heard good things about Superman a source told him that he got that wrong, and the movie is actually still terrible.

P.S.: the only actual nugget he had, and that he reported as such aside from his ranting and guesswork, was that he heard Kieran Culkin was also being considered for Clayface (and stands by the Daniel Radcliff stuff he had heard).

Eh, Todd Phillips pretty much ignored Gunn and co. That being a good or bad thing remains unclear, that film was going be made regardless. Reeves feels like he has the same cache within the studio so far, I’m sure he is game to share notes/ scripts and story points so as both film universe don’t do the same thing and whatnot, but I don’t believe Gunn has that kind of power to override Batman 2 and make any real changes to it. Just my take.

They've def been doing that. Especially with Reeves having multiple producing jobs all over DC Studios. He's pretty locked in.

And I doubt Gunn would even wanna do that. Nothing suggests it at all.

In Gunn's effort to shut down speculation he tends to box himself in. Wasn't he saying he doesn't do reshoots... Only to confirm he is doing them. Obviously things change so it's not like you have to be beholden to that, but why say anything in the first place.

When it comes to the batman, you have Matt Reeves going around the awards circuit for the penguin, saying that he's finishing up with the script and plans to shoot this year... Only for Gunn to keep reiterating that there is no finished script. This makes people speculate it may not even move forward this year.

So people can rag on Sneider all they want. But he brings up valid points. This whole dcu press conference was for what exactly? To tell people the majority of the projects aren't going forward and that they still have a batman problem.

I think it was before that when Gunn called him out on Twitter pushing fake news. :o

Gunn can say whatever he wants but there is a Batman problem. The reason why I say that is because they continue to contradict themselves lol I agree with the notion out there that the recent DCU press conference was a waste of time, imo.

Only thing we learned from that press conference is that Gunn is in control of everything and he is wearing too many hats. CEO, directing, writing, producing etc.. I know Marvel has slipped recently but you don’t see Kevin Feige out there doing everything just because he is the CEO of Marvel studios.

I'm just curious, wasn't the original news story that Daniel Radcliffe was on the list of actors that would be in the mix or the type of actor they are looking for, which then got presented to Gunn as Daniel Radcliffe was cast as Clayface?

Those are two different things and I would be annoyed too if I was a reporter and my story was being presented as something other than what I wrote.

Reading comprehension is clearly an issue online and Gunn is perpetually online so he full well knows what the rumours are and chooses to answer questions that are disengenious.

Not anyone else's fault if people don't know how to read. Happens all the time. Even in here.

No one knows exactly what Sneider says because no one is dumb enough to pay for his content 😂

In all seriousness, everything I’ve seen is that Sneider pointed at Radcliffe as someone they are interested in VS stating that they are looking for a Radcliffe type.

Also, I personally quite liked the presser. It shows a lot more transparency than we usually get, and it offered up updates on projects new and old.

He didn’t say he doesn’t do reshoots at all. He said he tries to avoid them. Like most directors. And sometimes you just can’t cause of the edit. He spoke about pickups months ago as well. Look at the actual quote: “I wish I picked up that fist hitting that thing better…”. We aren’t talking about reshooting entire scenes or adding a character or changing directors. He’s talking about small inserts to stitch the film together. It is nothing to even think about. But if he said “everything’s fine”, then we found out he did pickups for a day in mid March, you’d say he was lying. He can’t win.

So Reeves said he’s finishing the script and Gunn said the script isn’t finished yet… those are the same thing. Everybody involved said it’s filming this year. You have no real reason to think otherwise. Only fans and that journalist are calling it “a Batman problem”.

Did you read the articles about the conference? They have about half of that OG slate out, coming, or shooting rn. They didn’t say anything wasn’t moving forward. Idk where people are grasping this from. Since they’re still working on those things, they’ve heard pitches and put other things into production. That’s good. That’s being a production studio.

I’m extremely critical of Gunn and think his socials activity is a grating nuisance but the reshoot thing is totally mundane lol

saw another battinson hype tweet that had 500k likes lol. this franchise has real motion and impact, anyone denying it is coping.

Unpopular (or misunderstood) post incoming... :o

There's a bit of a mystery about this film reception to me, and form day one.
I'm not at all denying that the film has had its success, it's pretty well rated on various sites and we've seen with Penguin how quickly hype can get revived.

But while I'm not much of a social media person, whenever I've seen this film discussed on generalist film sites, podcasts or just by people around me, it's always to say that they thought the film was beautiful to look at but way too light/lousy on the writing side (with lots of bored people and no, not always because of a supposed lack of action).
About two or three weeks ago, the film was shown on the French main TV channel and the comments section on various TV and movie medias about it were flooded with people attacking the film and countless of jokes about it being the "perfect film to get a good night's sleep before starting a new week"... (ok these ones were probably dummies who can't focus on a movie if it don't go boom boom...)

Simply and I'm honestly just sharing a personal view : if I weren't here, I'd swear the film was divisive. 🤷‍♂️

That said, it's Batman. I'm sure it will only take a few trailers or even snippets for things to take off again and eclipse the negative... but I really think Reeves' vision isn't as unifying as Nolan's or Burton's films and that the delay for the sequel may be something that marketing will have to overcome a little more than expected. And if not... well, all the better!

Not at all misunderstood and I totally get why people have this reaction to it. I've always liked the detective aspect of Batman so this was completely in my wheel house, but for people that like more action oriented stuff I could see how they would think it's a snooze fest.

Online is always a different experience and I will say that somehow this movie managed to make a lot of money at the box office when you consider a few things it had going against it:

1. Theatres were still having restrictions and COVID in general was still a problem;
2. Coming off the disaster of justice League and Ben Affleck's run with a new iteration; and
3. 45 day release window in theatres.

There's no way it wouldve gotten to about 770 ww at the box office if the movie wasn't good because the word of mouth would have cut into its legs.

After watching some old interviews with Reeves I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they're going to start filming right at the end of the year is to take advantage of the winter season and real snow.

I'm glad he's able to laugh about it. Some of us can't. :o

Well if it films in November or December of this year, we will know something by June/July at the absolute latest. So 5 more months of speculation to go 😕.

I think I saw that it's getting an IMAX release, along with Supergirl. So I'm a bit more hopeful this time around that it will actually start filming this year if they are locking these contracts in from now.
