I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

It does make me wonder how likely Jeremiah Arkham could be as the big bad here.

Honestly thinking about it and considering where you could potentially go with the Arkham family after what we learned last movie about Martha, Jeremiah would be a phenomenal idea for the big bad of this film, especially if the main plot surrounds Bruce investigating Arkham and trying to improve it

I'm starting to think this may happen more than the court of owls. Especially because he made Bruce an Arkham. Makes sense to delve deeper into that. Obviously I could still see other villains to round out the cast and I wouldn't be opposed to a deeper dive into Arkham.

I still think Reeves' overall goal is to show Batman's villains go from the mob to the freaks with this film showing the transition. I think he has mentioned that all of these are villain origin stories.

Obviously the source of the rumour leaves a lot to be desired.

But we have truly been starved for news, part of me is keeping expectations in check that we won't hear anything until the new year. Especially if filming end of April/May.

Saw that Harvey Dent was trending on X. Thought there would be news and became excited, but it's just about some football player or wrestler or whatever, lol

It really would be very deep and personal considering Bruce and Jeremiah would be cousins. Though it gets even more twisted if we find out what happened to Martha and even Riddler’s mom in the Asylum. Then you have to factor in Edward Elliot going after the Waynes and the Arkhams which ended up costing him his life.

Though, one of the major issues for me is that if Jeremiah is the main villain, the film may feel very confined. Sure I want to dive into Arkham, but I want to see more of Gotham in all its snowy glory. I do like the idea of him being in this universe, but I want more out of this story.

The more we talk about it, the more I want Hugo Strange or an Arkham as the villain really, really badly.

And hopefully this will lead to a redesign of Arkham because frankly, what we saw of it on The Penguin was very basic, Arkham should be a character of its own.

How many weeks has it been since Reeves said we'd get news in the "weeks to come"? Like one? September flew by but Part II news exists outside of space and time apparently.
I think he said that on Batman day which was the 20th of September. So just shy of 2 weeks.

We do know he is hiring the various department heads right now. They should also be doing concept art at this stage.

It looks fine in the movie from its limited showcase. All the Arkham stuff in Penguin was terrible and a total wash, hopefully not remotely similar to how it’s portrayed in the movies. Felt like Gotham and not in a fun way.

I don’t really care about Arkham stuff at all apart from the Morrison GN but the familial connection makes me more intrigued.

I seriously feel like Matt is going to balance the overall plot with a "Bruce" side to the story vs a "Batman" side to the story. Kinda similar to what he did last movie with the Riddler plot and Falcone plot, with them both meeting roughly by the third act. I imagine the Batman side will be where we see Gotham in its snowy glory as we all want

"Stakes are higher emotionally" is an interesting specification.

Hugo Strange/Arkham Hive we might be up.
If the first movie was about Bruce's father, this one could be about his mom, touching on her mental health, the Arkham's and ultimately Bruce's mental health.

Could Bruce be framed for murder and people question him because of his family history? That could be a powerful and sad story.

Haven't posted in a while but I have been cooking this theory for a few days and I'd love feedback on it (it's a 3 page pdf). To sort of preface, this is Hush x Hugo Strange as the main villains. Where Matt Reeve's take on Riddler took inspiration from real life serial killer, The Zodiac, I think his Hugo Strange would take inspiration from Henry Murray and the whole Programmed to Kill conspiracy theory. The plot takes heavy inspiration from Prey, The Imposter, Bruce Wayne: Fugitive, and Hush. Deadshot is also used in the plot, and there is plenty of room for small parts for villains like Victor Zsasz and Professor Pyg as some of the "monster men" that Hugo Strange has helped mold through his abusive therapy practices. I think this plot successfully hits on all of the tidbits Matt has dropped in his interviews. I also did an edit of somebody else's fanart design for Hush, to give an idea of how he might appear in a couple scenes. I don't imagine this look being used throughout the movie; this design reimagines Hush's iconic bandaged look as an attempt to screw with Batman by dressing up as the corpse of the mayor, a figure who represents the corruption of Gotham, but also the violence that Batman has inspired, and the many ways in which he failed Gotham in the first film.

See, I'm really frustrated here, because I WANT your idea here to be legit, as I think it's long overdue for Hugo Strange to get his flowers in live action.

Unfortunately, I struggle to think that's what we're likely getting here after I also remembered Reeves' previous comments from last year at the Penguin press tour, namely how the film's mystery continues on from pieces of information we had in the first film and explores a "deeper corruption" that was lying underneath it.
I think my theory covers this issue solidly.

Bruce Wayne survives but is seriously wounded, potentially comatose for some time. During this time, Hush, dressed up like Batman, goes around killing criminals without mercy. Hugo Strange discusses the psychology of Batman on TV, obviously describing Bruce Wayne.

Bruce investigates his own assassination attempt and this Batman imposter. This is where the Penguin cameo would happen. The investigation is slowed by the police who are out to get Batman. Gordon is one of the few who believes there is an imposter and he aids his investigation.

Piggybacking of your idea of a Batman impostor, it would be interesting if Batman suffers a memory blackout and isn’t really sure that he didn’t kill the criminals.

A bit of Memento in that idea but not a ripoff.
