Hopefully a big turkey this Thursday!
After the success of the Penguin, doom posting feels so weird.I have had phases of being incredibly cynical about this topic but we’ve been through so many doom cycles with this franchise already that at this point I just don’t see reason to panic anymore unless something insanely obviously bad goes wrong. I, genuinely, don’t even think the sequel gap is that insane - 4 years is pretty normal! It’s only a step or two longer.
There is also no world where The Penguin is better written than The Batman. The latter has plenty of flaws but the former barely ever rises above the level of the other eight million gritty faux prestige crime shows that we’re all the rage in the 2000s/2010s - I like it a lot and it has major peaks but it’s not on the same wavelength at all.
The internet tells me a wife and a child.Outside of being a creative producer on Cape Crusader and The Penguin, what else does Reeves have on his plate?
We literally just had a mega successful TV show where a huge chunk of the press tour was hyping up this movie. It’s perfectly fine to be upset over delays and ****, but when the people making the thing keep on saying they're making the thing and are very excited to make the thing, it’s just funny to see fans get riled up and start to blame everyone involved about the thing not being made.
While it's fine, I just don't get it. The last decade has seen so many rushed flicks come out and underwhelm. Many that hurt me. My first priority is for it to be the best film it can be. If it takes a while, okay. I have so many other things to watch, play, read. It’s perfectly fine to be upset over delays and ****, but when the people making the thing keep on saying they're making the thing and are very excited to make the thing, it’s just funny to see fans get riled up and start to blame everyone involved about the thing not being made.
Doesn't count, bro. It wasn't on the big screen. We literally just had a mega successful TV show where a huge chunk of the press tour was hyping up this movie.

Yeah - like, I do get it to an extent - obviously it isn’t fun. I just don’t understand why people are so actively angry about it. Or, frankly, why we’re still doomering about Gunn killing the franchise when we’re passed the point (unless it bombs) when there would have been ample opportunity to quietly kill it. I have never had much faith the kind of movie Reeves makes can survive in the modern age of absolute garbage fire corporate IP trash but even I’m pretty chill about it for the time being. While it's fine, I just don't get it. It feels like some think there is an arbitrary time limit for a sequel to be released because of the Hollywood conveyor belt. The Last Crusade took 5 years to come after Temple of Doom.
I completely agree that the film should take the time it needs to be the best version of itself. While it's fine, I just don't get it. In what way is The Batman's script not "tight"?I completely agree that the film should take the time it needs to be the best version of itself.
My only wish for it is to have a way tighter script than its predecessor.
While an inconvenience for some, I don't think the time gap is so much a concern as a feeling of an eventual laborious development.
But in the end, it is what it is: just a feeling. In the end, nothing's too late to meet the announce timeline (script this winter, shooting next fall).
For all we know, we may be in for a series of updates in early January (I don't expect to hear much this December which will rpobably be devoted to launch marketing on Superman).
I'm a big fan of the movie, but it has script issues. Built around cutting it down to get it under 3 hours imo. I think it needed a bit more time to breathe. Mainly in the second act, and with Alfred in general. What aspects of the script for The Batman were weak? lol. Seems to me like this is some newly realized complaint bout the movie
oh yeah, that i agree. there is a 3.5 hour movie somewhere thereI'm a big fan of the movie, but it has script issues. Built around cutting it down to get it under 3 hours imo. I think it needed a bit more time to breathe. Mainly in the second act, and with Alfred in general.
Um... no offense, but I'm a little confused by the question, as I think your own very next post is answering it...In what way is The Batman's script not "tight"?

Yeah, I think this is just a bit of a language barrier thing. When it comes to a "tight" script, I think about a lack of fat. One that doesn't linger, or take detours. Which is why I think the script's major issue is it was trimmed to the bone. If anything it's overly tight.Um... no offense, but I'm a little confused by the question, as I think your own very next post is answering it...:
Maybe “tight” isn't the right word to use? English isn't my mother tongue after all...
More seriously, I'm referencing pretty much the same thing as you, just like we discussed a couple page ago actually.
The stuff about the second act feeling a bit messy/cluttered and for me more specifically, how too explanatory and static I found the “corrupt Wayne” subplot scenes and Kenzi's revelation, etc. to be.
When I say “not tight”, it's just that: some ideas not breathing fully, feeling rushed or too “descriptive”, ... I still feel the film could have benefited from another pass around the parts just cited.
That's why I appreciate Reeves showing so much care with the sequel while also simply hoping the lack of updates (through his collaborators) wasn't a sign of difficulties.
With Colin Farell recently sharing how many scenes he have in the sequel, it does seems like things are fine though.
He's producing Dynamic Duo.Outside of being a creative producer on Cape Crusader and The Penguin, what else does Reeves have on his plate?
Oh okay, got you, so it's definitely a linguistic error on my part.Yeah, I think this is just a bit of a language barrier thing. When it comes to a "tight" script, I think about a lack of fat. My wondering is if another pass may have helped to disseminate certain things in the script so that the second act didn't seem so much like a block of information... But you're probably right.I'm not sure another pass could've done much for the script. It honestly just feels like Reeves attempt to get it all in there, under a certain time limit. Which is why I kind of just accept exposition machine Alfred in the second act.
Well, as said above, for me it's perhaps not so much that the film is full as the way it chooses to give its content. The movie is three hours. How much **** did Reeves try to put in his earlier drafts that the final product can be three hours and still have some people feeling like its rushed?

Expectation: by november we'll have those famous cast announcements by Reeves!!
Geez, Matt Reeves is too busy posting funny Batman Thanksgiving memes on X …
