I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Obviously the delay is sad but the worst part of the delay is the endless drama and discourse surrounding it. I have trouble relating to the concept of needing More Batman so desperately.
You have trouble relating to people that are annoyed that the best live action Batman universe we've ever gotten is getting pushed back/delayed so much?

"The endless drama and discourse surrounding it" from impatient fans or from clueless collaborators ? :o

I'm joking (or half-joking?) but again : I think what's essentially fuel discussions isn't much the wait in itself (BvS had a big delay also) but the various report that may giving the feeling of stagnation (no matter the reasons).
It's not so surprising to me that some fans are suspicious when pretty much every news about the film boil down to the various and confusing statements from Wright, Fraser and co. or Gunn's numerous comments about “a script not yet submitted”.
In the end, this may just be a matter of communication : I sincerely think that if we only had the delays annoucements with a statement that the film needed more time and nothing more, the doubts online would be far less strong...

... or not.

After all, fandoms love their dramas. :o

I think Gunn's communication on this movie has actually been the terrible part. When you listen to Reeves speak about it in interviews, he seems enthusiastic and as of September, December and even during his awards press for the penguin he has noted that he is just finishing the script.

It's Gunn that keeps stepping in to say the script is not completed which sends everyone into a fury.

Given the delay to 2027, something tells me once Superman is close to coming out or at least has two weeks under its belt at the box office, we get a clear decision on the fate of this movie. I really think WB as a company is all in on Superman and that movie needs to work for the company as a whole. They don't want any distractions.

I fail to see how the sequel to a successful movie and a hit television series is a "distraction" and not just "more money". I'm cognizant of the potential issues at hand, I doubt any party is super duper happy with the situation and I don't have any real faith in the longterm stability of either DCU or (sigh, I guess we are calling it this) TBECS. Superman has a decent shot of being a complete disaster judging by the leaks and I'll be pleasantly amazed if Part II isn't the end for Reeves. However, I sincerely doubt the movie is in a holding pattern waiting to be cancelled if Superman is a hit. If that were the case, you'd think it'd just be dead given how overtly insulting it is to make the team wait to see if they're being replaced.

But he’s not saying anything different or contradictory lol

Reeves says he’s finishing the script and Gunn says it’s not done yet. Fans going into a frenzy over anything is fan ****.

They’re making Part II because Part I and Penguin were already hits. They’re not waiting on Superman to determine that. Do they wanna do all that after the premiere? Maybe.

You're right, Gunn isn't contradicting anything, except, when coupled with everything else that fans nitpick at, such as the majority of the actors having not heard a peep about the project until recently, it is not like fans have nothing to be worried about.

Given the fact that a justice League movie was almost filming during the dark knights release, only for the plug to be pulled at zero hour, Batgirl being cancelled, or the debacle of a complete reshot movie for the 2017 Justice League, WB has a history as a studio of some out there decisions.

The Batman was successful, the penguin even more so, that I do think it's going to happen. The question to me, has and will always be, do they connect this series to the main DCU or not. Zaslav is looking to IP's for it's film slate going forward, there is no doubt in my mind they want a unified approach.

I do not believe based on several comments by GUNN and others that THE BATMAN ( Pattison) will be in any way shape or form connected to GUNNS world. Especially considering they are doing their own Bats family Brave and the bold thing. Did Pattison suddenly have a son and family? I do not see it happening at all.

The new ridiculous rumors of foreign film listings is showing Batman 2 is now called something else, and it is being relabeled as sci-fi/ fantasy I also don't buy, just like posters on other sites saying Paul Dano is playing HUSH in part 2 and is a twin orphan of Riddler and will also copy Pattison's face etc etc...but...it is entertaining!

After seeing that Superman clip.....yeah no, Reeves' Batman universe has no business mixing with this.

Gunn needs someone to keep his instincts in check.

Gunn has said a thousand times they aren't merging these universes lol

That clip is also very... normal? Its not congruent to Reeves' world because of course it isn't, but not much there is Gunn going too deep into his weird bag. At all.

Looks like there is a recent interview with Andy Serkis where he says he has no clue what Alfred's story is.

I'm still holding out some hope that we hear something in the next two months if it's supposed to film at the end of the year.

However, as we get further into the spring without news, I just have this feeling that we are about to get a news story late on Friday that the sequel is cancelled. The silence surrounding the project is becoming deafening.

If filming isn't starting until the end of the year, then I fully expect spring to come and go without news. Summer seems more likely.

And there is no way this film is getting cancelled. The brave and the bold stuff can hold off a few more years if needed based on all these other films DCU is doing. So, it won't saturate either one. The Batman 2 is listed as "Untitled Batman film" in Japan and was recently changed from "The Batman 2" Once this thing gets moving it will go like an avalanche. I don't expect any news or anything except a snippet of "It takes place in the winter, or it will continue Penguin's arc, or " vague things until maybe October 2025... I'd say fall we will hear reeves went into pre-production, some casting news etc. And then all the scoopers will be out taking papparazzi leaked shots of places for filming crews and maybe some other things leaked. It will film over winter maybe into march or April 2026 and then six months later a teaser, then summer 2027 a full trailer etc...

For the record, I don’t think the movie falling through is impossible. Clearly it’s had huge problems. But I also don’t think there’d be anything to tell us unless Gunn wants to make a big show of it starting pre production.

Fraser didn`t do Messiah bc of this and is scheduled to do this film. I think a stills photographer is also booked for late 2025. Pattinson is shooting Nolan's joint until probably May/June-ish.

Pre-pro could start sometime in the late summer. It is scheduled for 2027 so they don't need to rush to shoot to hit their date. Principal could start next Spring and they'd still be fine.

I suspect they’re pointedly aiming for a winter shoot, that always seems to have been the case for every legit sounding date we’ve heard bandied around.
This would make sense with Reeves' previous winter-based films. Let Me In and War were filmed around the end of the year with real snow for the most part.

If all goes well, I'm betting on filming starting in late November.

^ if they do film at the end of the year and it ends up being November, a 5-6 month pre production would start sometime in May or June.

I also feel like they probably want the whole DC narrative to revolve around Superman right now and, whether its fair or not, any sort of Batman news or hype is going to drown it out in substantially in the discourse.

Does anybody know when Dune 3 is filming?

I thought it was supposed to be sometime soon...
