I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Quoting this directly, because a lot of people in here need to read this:
Also, a lot of people, I'm sure, are blowing you up on social media, probably in person too, about the state of The Batman Part II.

Listen, we're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt's excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I'm totally excited about it. So we can't wait to read the scripts, but we haven't read it yet, if that's your question. People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.

It sort of relates to one of the first questions I asked you, which is your relationship to social media. I can't imagine being in Matt's position, having to write a script while also being hounded on social media for updates.

Well, I don't think Matt really pays attention to that stuff so much. He's got a lot of other things happening, so I don't think he lets it affect him. He's fine. But I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.

Again, you may not like him, but Gunn was the right guy to help creatively oversee the DC brand on film/tv

I’d be willing to bet that if DC was still directly under WB, some inept Zaslav nonsense would’ve caused Reeves to walk away from the franchise by now
Even as someone who thinks he’s made terrible call after terrible call, when it comes to Reeves, I do think he’s wildly less likely to **** him over than the vast majority of corporate randos in the industry. So major credit where credit is due.

I'm just curious though, is anyone outside of a few people online on Matt's ***s?

The film is dated for 2027, the only thing that has been concerning is that Gunn keeps going out of his way to say the script hasn't been turned in. If he hadn't said anything, no one would be worried. So it's a bit of a disingenuous statement from Gunn when he has been the one causing more panic.

I'm not sure how he's causing the panic. People ask him, he answers. There's been plenty of discourse and whining online about this.

Yes I’m not convinced a final decision has been made about whether or not Pattinson will appear in the DCU, and it won’t be until a couple things happen: 1.) Superman is released and we know what kind of start the DCU is off to, and 2.) The Batman 2 script is finalized and they can have an actual discussion with Matt and Rob about the possibility. I don’t think it’s likely, but I also don’t believe a definitive decision has been made as too many unknown variables are in play at this time.

Does Matt Reeves have a "oversee all things Batman" deal with WB? Because his name is attached to an animated movie starring two Robins but its not set in The Batman universe, his name is attached to the Clayface movie, which is set in the DCU, and he's one of the creative producers on Batman Cape Crusader.

There's probably a certain hesitation about hitching their successful Batman immediately to an unproven new franchise, for sure.

I don't know for a fact, but if you recall, Matt was negotiating to direct way back in 2017/18 and he walked away from negotiations because he wasn't getting what he wanted. Then they came back and did the deal. The DC reputation was in the dumps after justice league so it wouldn't surprise me if they just gave in and gave him control of everything batman related because they were desperate.

I don't think there's any deal like that, more likely that Reeves personally chose to be involved in these specific projects. He's mentioned wanting to work with the team behind Dynamic Duo for a while, and his involvement with Clayface isn't all that surprising considering there were old reports that he was in talks about producing Batman villain movies, though it seems obvious to me now that those films were never supposed to be part of his universe.

Remember, Matt Reeves confirmed at the Golden Globes in January that they will shooting this year. There are only 6 months left, so we'll get the first casting news soon, I guess?

I don't think they'll be quite keeping up with that schedule. IIRC, the planned production start is early 2026 now.

Have you not seen the article after article speculating that Matt Reeves has quit or won't finish the movie for the past year or so? It's definitely not just a few people

Gunn's quote is 10/10 and goes back to what I've been saying the moment we got into this slow period.
