I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Me: He could just be an Aronofsky fan, or a fan of the actors. I’m not going to speculate wildly for no good reason. I know we’re all desperate for updates, but this is getting out of hand. I think we all need to calm down, everyone JUST CALM THE **** DOW—

Also Me: Do we think they’re looking at Austin Butler for a role, or…?

Austin has resting Batman villain face. He could be half of them. Absolutely would be an obvious front runner for Batman himself if they weren’t doing something so specific in the DCU - like if you shot The Batman’s script today he’d be the first guy you’d want.

Austin Butler being a big, hot name who works with WB regularly makes him a pretty likely candidate. At least a realistic one.

I’m sure it’s nothing, but he’d be top five least shocking names to hear imo.

Another solid Harvey Dent candidate imo. Or Hush, I suppose, if they’re going that way.

Um Mr. Freeze...

Interesting to consider the alternative where they say “**** you, first come first serve” and Reeves has to find a Penguin placeholder.
So maybe we can guess Reeves won't use Clayface?
I'm wondering if all the thing about the Scarecrow's gloves in The Penguin is a similar situation: like Reeves was thinking about using him but in the end the plan is to insert him in DCU.

I was thinking the opposite with the scarecrow. It seemed like he was supposed to be played by Theo Rossi in the penguin as there were rumours of the Julian Rush character being Jonathan Crane but it may have been scrapped. Theo Rossi seemed like too "big" of a name for a throwaway character like that.

I think maybe the idea is to use scarecrow in the movies first and potentially spin it off into an Arkham series if they revisit that or Arkham has become the center piece of the deeper corruption in Gotham. We also heard rumors of a solo scarecrow movie so I'm thinking Reeves has a take on him that he wants to explore.

The Scarecrow thing feels pretty baseless to me. He's such a generic character and there's nothing that actually links him to Scarecrow beyond working at Arkham which sometimes Scarecrow does - which Reeves would be wise to avoid if he wants to do the character because that way lies just doing Nolan's take.

I don't have a particularly strong itch for Scarecrow. I'm all for it if Reeves wants to go that route, but it's not a character I'm super eager to see revisited again so soon.

If Arkham is going to have more of an involvement in Parts II and III, you gotta get Hugo Strange in there. End of discussion.

You mean Hugh Strang? :o

More seriously, I'd also like to see Hugo Strange at some point. Prey isn't necessarily my favorite comic, but there are elements that would work well as a sequel to The Batman.
I would even add a little side plot à la Venom to develop Bruce's use of that adrenaline/drug thing in the finale of the first film. I can see this still “fragile” Bruce Wayne eventually losing himself in an addiction to surpass himself. It would actually be pretty ballsy to tackle something like that...

Yeah I think the bandaged look is most likely if they’re doing a stand-in / imposter villain. Change everything else about the character; but Hush’s look is the memorable part.

I am so intrigued in how Gunn is going to balance this out. Gunn can say it’s not a competition all he wants, but he will inadvertently create one amongst the fans of which Batman is better and then you might have the general audience being confused. It is going to be interesting to see how this will play out.

I think Brave and The Bold can afford to wait , with The Batman II taking off .

At this point, As a fan of the new Superman film, I'm more interested in seeing Corenswet's Clark again, and seeing what new adventures and challenges await him, as opposed to seeing what the Gunnverse Batman is like.

I want to see where Battinson's Batman is going, and what awaits Corenswet's Superman next ,more than I'm interested in seeing The DCU Batman or worrying about a team up film.

We have one Batman movie already on the way , and as a fan, I can wait for the DCU version to eventually show up.

Nothing about Superman makes The Batman impossible. This world has metahumans--they just weren't an issue for the serial killer / mob story that Batman dealt with in Part 1.

And, again, since this is a prequel series (i.e. Batman's early years), I could imagine a scenario where the DCU takes place 10 years after the Reeves saga. So by the time Pattinson meets Corenswet onscreen, Batman has already faced against all his street-level villains & is dealing with escalation. Once Batman is DCU-ified, he can go up against his more fantastical rogues (or just appear in DCU crossovers).

Yeah, that's the fans' problem.
