I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

It wouldn't surprise me if Reeves takes inspiration from Batman Telltale.

Him talking about how there will be a lot of division, moral ambiguity, and unrest among the population reminded me of the Children of Arkham thing.

So he and the Joker become BFFs or maybe even more while Selina is pretty much sidelined and is given a dissatisfied ending to her romance with Bruce?

Telltale went way overboard in making Thomas Wayne a bad guy to such a cartoonish degree, to the point where Bruce had no real reason to be Batman anymore. I hope they don't take cues from that stuff. I don't went Bruce's story to be "I have to redeem myself because my parents were **** heads" (which James Gunn is already doing with Superman, kind of).

I don't see them going that far with the Waynes here at all, although I think Reeves would pull that whole angle off far better than Gunn did anyways.

Whether its Reeves or Gunn or whatever, I think there is an inherent danger in doing the "what if Jor-El was a bad guy, what if Thomas Wayne was a bad guy, etc" type stories.

Imagine what's going on in the background right now. Matt Reeves is probably working day and night, and they have a whole list of actors they're negotiating with.
He is probably planning his shots rights now if I had to take a guess. If they had to build a batmobile again they would have to start that, just because that would take longer to make. As much as I don't think he will have a new vehicle, given the timeframe that the movie takes place, I would really love to see Reeves take on a flying vehicle. Even though part of me knows that doesn't fit the realism he's going for, I still want to see it.

Whether it makes sense or not for Thomas Wayne to be an ******* is not really the point.
I disagree. I think most of the general audience doesn't hold it as precious as we do and they would relate more in todays world to a realistic take on a billionaire.

Yeah, I don't ever want it to be as straightforwardly evil as Telltale Thomas but Thomas being a bad person doesn't bother me. For me, it's nothing like how the obvious comparison of point, the Jor-El twist, completely destroyed any chance of me ever liking DCU Superman because... I mean, a white billionaire aristocrat being Not A Great Person doesn't have any unfortunate subtext to it and doesn't really damage anything fundamental about Batman. The trauma/loss is what drives Bruce but if anything there's something powerful to be done with the idea of Batman realizing he doesn't do it just for that reason, that it's not about grief or revenge but has turned into something truly altruistic.

Idk. Not my preference at all but its not a conceptual write off.
