IMDb to close "message boards" on February 20, 2017

And they're gone...

The website already feels empty. My enjoyment and use of it has now drastically decreased.

Terrible decision, IMDB.

Blame the countless trolls who made that place home from home for the last decade and a half. It wasn't just a small group of people as well. Majority of that forum was a cesspool of crap.

Good riddance!

The trolls didn't bother me. Every forum has their far share of trolls.

Completely removing the boards because of trolls wasn't the best answer. There were other ways to go about fixing the problem.

People will miss it when they realize there aren't any other places to discuss a certain obscure film/TV Show or actor/filmmaker.

It was the only place I actually had an ongoing discussion about whether Riki Lindholme was hot or if she looked like Dren from Splice.

I can't imagine any rational human being missing the IMDB boards for long.

I'll miss it, at least for a while. I'm sure we'll get used to it after a bit. Like I said, I was never a member and most of the people were a-holes, but it could be a lot of fun and it feels kind of empty as of right now.

I never had a problem with the trolls. This is the internet I know I am never going to meet these trolls. I never cared to entertain them by clicking on their threads and responding.

On the four to five shows I discussed, I had no issues with trolls.

I'll repeat what has been said that you could discuss obscure or film/tv that just isn't discussed.

Fun while it lasted.

In IMDb's case their 'fair share' was the majority of the populace there. No proper moderation at that place either, which is why the trolls were rampant.

I'm surprised they didn't close down that cesspit of a forum years ago.

Goddamn it, man.

Make the thread, I be there in a few. I'm going back and forth on this.

She's hot, but in an odd and offbeat kind of way. She's also got some range, from sit com appearances to weirdly funny stuff like Garfunkel and Oates (I miss that show) to being scary evil in Last House on the Left.

A lot of people have moved to http://imdb2.freeforums.net/. It's just a forum site though...

It also looks like http://www.moviechat.org/ has huge potential. The guy archived a LOT of IMDB Message Board posts and you can search for your TV shows and movies, there's a forum for each like IMDB had.

http://www.croovies.com has a sub-reddit type movie community, where each actor / director / movie page is like a sub-reddit, and the front page has the most recent / upvoted discussions.

^ I hope the IMDb trolls flock to those forums and not here.

Some theorize it's the same dozen or so sad, dedicated trolls with many accounts.

I'll give it a few months, there's usually one or two who pop up in their predecessor's place. I myself avoided the IMDb forums entirely because of lack of proper moderation, but I'm itching to actually find a home for mass movie discussions.

Reddit's film communities are ironically too small for my taste. That and/or their format isn't conducive to smooth ongoing real-time discussions.

Do you actually realize how offensive you are? I'm not sure if any other people here used it but I did so stop offending me.
I "used" them. What's your point? I find it very hard for a rational human being to not get over the loss of the IMDB boards. The place was horrible. The vast majority of the "discourse" was straight up trolling. How horrible something is, how ugly an actor or actress is, how someone is horrible or unattractive. What is there to miss if that isn't your thing?

It is weird to bring up little forums for obscure actors or flicks, because they had little to no discussion. And what was there was usually years old.

Not all boards were inundated with trolls. Boards for classic, lesser known films were quality.

Like what films? And how much "discussion" was there? 100 post on an older film, most of which was years old, is a great loss?

So what if they were old? They were still opinions. I watch a lot of older films and used to go there to read what people wrote about them every time.

The vile glee some people here take in the shutdown of another board is really disappointing to watch. It's worse than juvenile trolling.

Thank you. Of course new, popular films were filled with trolls - but boards for older films, etc were often a place with great discussion. I've seen plenty of gems on places like those over the years.

If some people hated the IMDB boards so much, then simply don't use them. To take satisfaction in seeing them get removed and see people who loved them get upset about it is just terrible.

Wow, talk about arrogance.

If yo uare looking for opinions on films, they are easy to find. Even the osburce ones. Forums are for discussion.

"Vile glee"? You are acting as if this was a good community that people should mourn the loss of.

There's always Reddit.

RIP IMBD boards - home to people who don't know a thing about movies... and trolling.

Yes, arrogance. Now would you please start naming some obscure older films on that site that had vibrant discussion? Something that couldn't occur somewhere less hate filled?

Saying it happened doesn't mean it actually happened. The reason why it was easy to point out the problems with the IMDB boards is because it was widespread, easy to see and well documented.

The IMDB boards were so valued, even those that owned them didn't find them worth the trouble anymore. Kind of sums it up really.
